Batavia Area Steering Committee holds public meeting to discuss redevelopment

The Batavia Area Steering Committee invites residents to attend a public meeting to discuss the concepts and findings of four strategic sites within the redevelopment project area.

It will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday July 29 at the Board Room at Batavia City Hall.

The purpose of the redevelopment project is to revitalize underutilized, vacant, abandoned and contaminated properties.

'80s-style hair band 'Mulletude' rocks the house at T.F. Brown's on Saturday starting at 10 p.m.

"Mulletude" – An '80s-style hair band and one of the best party bands you'll hear this summer will play from 10 p.m. until closing this Saturday, July 13, at T.F. Brown’s on Main Street in Downtown Batavia.

'Feet on the Street Sidewalk Sale' downtown, sponsored by BID

Stafford Historical Society meeting -- special presentation on the doomed ship Titanic

The Stafford Historical Society will have its monthly program at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26.

Featured will be Greg Kinal and his presentation of the ill-fated luxury liner Titanic --  its construction, its history and the sinking on its maiden voyage.

His program will take place after the business meeting in the Stafford Town Hall Court Room, which is located at 8903 Route 237, Stafford.

Town of Batavia Republican Committee's annual picnic in the park

The Town of Batavia Republican Committee’s annual picnic will be held on Friday, June 21st at the Kiwanis/Batavia Town Park on West Main St. Rd. from 5 p.m. till dark.

As in the past, we will have our grilled red and white hots, salads, baked beans, chips and delicious desserts all for $10 per person, children 5-12 $5, and under 5 are free. Lots of unique door prizes and fun for everyone.

Darien Lake hosts annual Father's Day Car Show this weekend

Darien Lake will host its annual Father’s Day Car Show this weekend, June 15-16.

Hundreds of car enthusiasts are expected to gather to share in this family tradition, and compete for the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice awards.

Dad and the whole family will also have the opportunity to vote on the coolest cars from rods, sports, customs, convertibles, antiques, and tuners for the People’s Choice Awards, which will be given out during Saturday’s show. On Sunday, the Special Judge’s Choice awards will be announced at 2:30 p.m.

Batavia Concert Band's first summer concert moved to Stuart Steiner Theatre due to possible rain

The Batavia Concert Band will present its first summer concert on Wednesday, June 26th at Centennial Park in the City of Batavia. Stuart Steiner Theatre at Genesee County Community College. It moved to the college campus due to the possibility of rain.

John Bailey will be the Principle Conductor for the 2013 Batavia Concert Band Summer Concert Series.

Downbeat for regular season concerts is 7 Wednesday evenings in Centennial Park.

GC Libertarian Party's inaugural convention, public invited

Alexander Elementary School hosts community-wide 'Picnic in the Outdoor Classroom'

Alexander Elementary School is hosting a community-wide "Picnic in the Outdoor Classroom" from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31.

The picnic will include musical entertainment and several interactive displays and opportunities for people to explore the classroom and learn more about how the classroom is being used. The principal says "We are very proud of the classroom, and right now the new plants are really starting to come in and it looks great."

Motorcyclists invited on 'Ride to Remember' veterans

This Saturday is the “Ride to Remember,” sponsored by Genesee Veterans Support Network (GVSN) and Stan’s Harley Davidson. This ride honors those who served and sacrificed in defense of our freedoms.

Ride registration opens at Stan’s from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Guided rides begin at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Maps and directions are provided for those who wish to ride independently. It will be a 60-mile ride with three stops.

'Corsets, crinolines, and other instruments of torture' is topic of last HLOM's last Spring lecture

Did you ever wonder who wore corsets? Why did they wear them for over 500 years? Did you know men wore corsets in some time periods? What were the benefits of wearing them? 

A review of the fashion corsetry in the 18th and 19th centuries will be presented by Gail Argetsinger at the Holland Land Office Museum, 131 W. Main St. Batavia, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25.

She is an associate professor and costume designer in the Department of Theatre at SUNY Brockport who designs and builds the costumes for the plays and teaches costume-related courses at Brockport.

Town & Country Garden Club of Le Roy's annual plant auction at Presbyterian Church

The Town & Country Garden Club of Le Roy is holding its annual PLANT AUCTION at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12 at the Presbyterian Church on the corner of Routy 5 (Main Street) and Route 19. It is free and open to the public.

We will be auctioning perennials, bulbs, houseplants and other miscellaneous garden items. There will be free refreshments! Come out and join us for a great night of fun! Proceeds are used for civic beautification in Le Roy.

Informational meeting about chamber's last tour of China in October

Gasser Racing Series with antique & vintage cars begins at Empire Dragway, Leicester

Scout Sundae Sunday at Elba museum, plus free horse and buggy rides

The Historical Society of Elba will host the Scout Sundae Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 26, on the Museum grounds on Maple Avenue Extenstion.

All Boy/Girl/Cub Scouts and any Elba school-age children are invited. Have a hot dog, drink and enjoy the fun of seeing and eating ice cream made the old-fashioned way.  Even help turn the crank on the ice cream churn!

Earl Roth will provide FREE horse and buggy rides. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Fundraiser Saturday at Batavia YWCA for local Anna's Wish Foundation, Chinese auction donations needed

There's a fundraiser this Saturday, May 18, at the Batavia YWCA from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crafters and other vendors will have a variety of nice items to sell to benefit the Anna's Wish Foundation, named after the daughter of the Batavia High School vice principal.
