Ribbon Cutting at Batavia branch of Edward Jones
Michael Marsh, local financial advisor for the financial services firm Edward Jones, invites the community to attend a ribbon cutting at the branch office located at 7 Jackson Street in Batavia on January 16th at 9:30am as part of celebrating the New Year. In addition to the ribbon cutting, a "meet and greet" open house will be taking place on January 21st from 10am to 3pm and January 22nd 3pm to 7pm.

Jan. 14 is deadline to donate fleece for project to benefit PTSD patients
RSVP of Genesee County and Genesee County AmeriCorps are asking for donations for a service project they will be holding to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 21. We need donations of fleece (1.5 yards or more) or contributions to help purchase the fleece.
The fleece will be used to make blankets that will be given to the Batavia VA Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment Center. Donations can be dropped off to the Genesee County Youth Bureau located at 2 Bank St. in Batavia by Jan. 14. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Benefit basketball game for Alexander's Austin Heineman
The Alexander High School Varsity Cheerleaders will host a benefit basketball game for Austin Heineman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.
Come to Alexander High School and watch the Alexander Trojans (varsity boys) take on Letchworth. The school is located at 3314 Buffalo St.
Donations are welcome at the door. Plus, there will be a 50/50 raffle, half-court shootout, bake sale, and gift certificates from local businesses to be raffled off.
All proceeds will be donated to Austin as he battles a rare childhood cancer. He is currently awaiting a bone marrow transplant.

Live manger scene in Yunker's barn, old-time Christmas Eve service in Elba
The Christmas Star is lighted. The old barn is waiting. A Christmas Eve service will be presented by the Elba Presbyterian Church.
Lighted candles in jugs along the road will lead the people to the Yunker barn. Covered onion crates allow nearly 100 people to sit and watch a live manger scene, sing familiar carols and listen to Scripture and special music.
The pastor, Rev. Barbara Tipton, will lead the prayers and give a short meditation. The service will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 at 6460 Transit Road, Elba. The public is cordially invited.

Le Roy residents invited to comment on Wiss Hotel proposal at village board meeting

A new offer to purchase the Wiss Hotel from the Village of Le Roy has been submitted to the village by Le Roy New York, LLC. The new offer eliminates the prior provision that the village loan the group money to purchase the property. The village board will provide the opportunity to residents to appear at the beginning of its meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the Le Roy Village Hall to comment on the proposal.
