Head-on collision in Basom

A head-on motor vehicle-accident is reported at 6655 Alleghany Road in Basom. It involves two or three vehicles. There are minor injuries. Victims are walking around. One of the cars rolled over.

Alabama Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. It's in front of the Alabama Tee Off driving range.

UPDATE 12:47 p.m.: Fire police are shutting down traffic at Judge Road. They are also at Lewiston and Alleghany stopping southbound traffic on Alleghany, which is blocked. There are three victims, one of whom needs extrication.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: One person has suffered serious arm lacerations.

UPDATE 12:58 p.m.: A third ambulance is requested from Oakfield.

UPDATE 1:01 p.m.: The Oakfield assignment is cancelled.

UPDATE 1:08 p.m.: All traffic is shut down on Alleghany Road, between Judge and Ham roads. Two victims are being transported to Medina Hospital.

UPDATE 1:28 p.m.: The third victim was extricated and is en route to ECMC.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: All Alabama fire units back in service.

Snowplow strikes natural gas line behind Kmart

A snowplow has accidently struck a natural gas pipeline meter behind the Kmart store at 8363 Lewiston Road. It's leaking fuel.

The Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding and will access the scene through the Batavia Downs' parking lot at the rear of the property.

Kmart and Batavia Downs' management have been notified and so has National Fuel Co., which is sending in a crew but no ETA is given.

Winds are reportedly 5 mph from the southwest.

UPDATE 11:39 p.m.: A City of Batavia fire engine is called to respond as mutual aid.

UPDATE 11:49 a.m.: A responder reports that the natural gas leak has been stopped. Crews are asked to check the store's warehouse again to ensure no natural gas fumes are inside.

Bergen man reportedly killed in snowmobile accident in Riga

 A 37-year-old Bergen man was reportedly killed Thursday night in a snowmobile and car accident in Riga, Monroe County, according to WHEC.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on the Buffalo Road bridge over the CSX tracks when a westbound car, for an unknown reason, crossed the center line and hit the group of three of snowmobile riders head on.

The name of the deceased and the two riders with him have not been released. One other rider was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and the third was not injured.

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office as Thomas Bushman, 37. The second snowmobile driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, is Craig Heberle, 19. The uninjured rider is John Heberle, 37.

Car accident on West Buffalo Road

A two-vehicle accident, with unknown injuries, is reported at West Buffalo Road at the railroad bridge by Sheraton Road.

Mercy Flight is called from Buffalo. Mercy EMS is called along with Bergen Fire Department.

Bergen is asked to establish a landing zone at its fire hall for Mercy Flight.

Churchville is asked to assist with traffic control and ambulance service.

Driver reportedly lost control of car while trying to pass on icy road

 A driver suffered minor injuries Wednesday after she lost control of her car while trying to pass another vehicle on Route 33 near Old State Road in Bergen.

Melissa J. Davis, 37, of Cleon St., Rochester, received citations for alleged speed too fast for conditions and failure to keep right.

Davis was westbound on Route 33 at 8:21 a.m. when she attempted to pass another car. She apparently spun out and her car overturned as she attempted to maneuver back into the westbound lane.

There were reportedly other cars that had already gone off the roadway in the area.

Though her injuries were reportedly minor, firefighters from Byron and Bergen were called to extricate her from her car.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Chris Parker.

Accident with possible injuries reported on 490 in Bergen

 A one-car accident has been reported on I-490 at mile marker 3 and there are possible injuries.

The white car is about 12 feet off the roadway.

Bergen fire and ambulance, Le Roy fire and ambulance along with Mercy EMS have been dispatched.

UPDATE: All Genesee County responding units put back in service. This is a Monroe County call.

Van rolls over on Lewiston Road, Alabama

A van rollover accident is reported at 751 Lewiston Road, Alabama.

Unknown injuries, but a caller says no one has exited the vehicle.

Alabama Fire and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 12:58 p.m.: The driver is uninjured and out of the van. The medics are cancelled. Alabama rescue is also cancelled. State Police are on scene.

Speed too fast for conditions a likely factor in fatal accident

The Honda that crossed the center line and struck an SUV in a fatal accident yesterday may have been going too fast for conditions, according to Deputy Chief Gordon Dibble, Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

It was under 9 degrees and there was still ice and snow on West Main Street Road at 9:02 a.m. when the accident ocurred.

The investigation is ongoing and there is still much to be learned about what happened, according to Dibble.

"There may be other factors that our investigation will eventually uncover," Dibble said.

Nineteen-year-old Delores Opuku-Boateng, a Batavia resident and student at GCC, died at the scene after being ejected from the Honda.

The driver, 21-year-old Levert R. Kimble, of Batavia, was seriously injured and transported to ECMC. He's out of intensive care and listed in stable condition, according to ECMC patient information.

The other driver, Justin J. Jaszko, 31, suffered a leg injury and was treated at UMMC.

Snowmobiler injured after sled hits tree

 A 23-year-old snowmobile rider was seriously injured Tuesday evening after the vehicle he was riding struck a tree.

Nathan C. Swimline, of Boyce Road, Pembroke, was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight with internal injuries.

Swimline was riding his snowmobile at 6:39 p.m. eastbound on Genesee Sno-Packers secondary trail GS 207, East Pembroke, when his vehicle traveled off the south side of the trail and struck a tree. Swimline was partially ejected from the snowmobile. 

According to the accident report, Swimline has five years experience with snowmobiles and was driving a 2004 Polaris Switchback, 700cc.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.

UPDATE: According to ECMC patient information, Swimline is out of intensive care and listed in stable condition.

Driver accused of following too closely near previous accident scene

A driver was issued three citations following a secondary accident on Byron Road yesterday afternoon.

The driver and another car were approaching an accident scene on Byron Road at 4:42 p.m. when his car rear-ended the other car.

Cited for allegedly following too closely, aggravated unlicensed operation and driving on a suspended license was 41-year-old Scott P. Dunham, of Batavia.

Dunham's car hit one driven by Patricial Williams, 41, of Byron. Williams and her passenger, Lauren E. Williams, 11, suffered minor injuries and were transported to UMMC.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Graff.

Cars off the road, one rollover on Route 33, Byron

 A car is on its side in the area of Route 33 and Old State Road, Byron.

A deputy called in that three or four cars were off the road and then said, "now I've got a rollover." 

There is a reported minor injury.

Byron and South Byron fire dispatched along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 8:37 a.m.: Bergen's rescue engine requested to the scene to help with extrication. Mercy EMS told to continue non-emergency.

Car hits utility pole, diesel fuel tank on Batavia-Stafford Townline Road

A car has struck a utility pole and a 500-gallon diesel fuel tank on Batavia-Stafford Townline Road near R. Steven Hawley Drive.

The tank, on a farm at the location, was ruptured at a seam and was leaking fuel. The leak is now stopped.

The driver is out of the vehicle and walking around.

Both Stafford Fire Department (the accident is in the Stafford district) and Town of Batavia fire have responded.

UPDATE 4:56 a.m.: A fuel specialist from a local fuel company requested to the scene to help drain the remaining 200 to 300 gallons of fuel in the tank. Also, dispatch asked to contact the father of the driver. "Let him know (his son) is OK. He just needs a ride home."

The road is  being kept open.

Snowmobiler runs into tree in East Pembroke

A snowmobiler has struck a tree on a trail just north of 2274 Angling Road. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding along with Mercy medics.

The victim is unable to get off the trail.

UPDATE 6:35 p.m.: Mercy Flight status to fly is requested and the caller is told it is unable to fly.

UPDATE 6:38 p.m.: The victim is said to be off the trail, and an emergency responder is "taking a snowmobile to the accident."

UPDATE 6:40 p.m.: A Mercy Flight helicopter out of Buffalo has been started toward the accident scene. A landing zone is to be established at Pembroke School.

UPDATE 6:58 p.m.: Mercy Flight says it's two minutes away from landing. The pilot is told the victim seems to have only internal injuries and is awaiting their arrival inside the ambulance.

UPDATE 7:13 p.m: East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy medics are back in service. Presumably, the victim is being taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Minor injury accident on West Main in Le Roy

 A two-car accident with a possible minor injury is blocking the eastbound lane of West Main Street, Le Roy.

One subject is complaining of a possible arm injury.

The accident occured in the area of 70 West Main St.

New accident, same location on Byron Road, Byron

A different car accident in the same location as one just awhile ago has been reported in the vicinity of 6945 Byron Road in Byron. There are injuries, however, in this incident.

The vehicle veered off the roadway. Byron Fire Department was headed back to quarters after handling the earlier accident when this call came in. The crew turned around and went back to the location. Mercy medics are also on scene. Fire police being sent in to shut down traffic.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m.: Byron fire is back in service. There are two female victims and both are being taken to UMMC.

Car smashes into trees in Byron

A car has struck trees at 6945 Byron Road in Byron. Law enforcement on scene requests evaluation of the driver.

Byron Fire Department and Mercy BLS are responding.

UPDATE 4:38: Byron fire went back in service after a patient sign-off for this accident.

One killed, one seriously injured in head-on collision on West Main Street Road, Batavia

UPDATE 3:50 p.m.: The Genesee County Sheriff's Department has released the victims' names in this morning's two-vehicle head-on collision in the vicinity of 3837 W. Main St. Road, Town of Batavia.

Killed at the scene was 19-year-old Delores Opuku-Boateng, who was a passenger in a 1999 Honda sedan driven by 21-year-old Levert R. Kimble. Both of them were ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

Kimble was taken to ECMC with serious injuries. Mercy Flight was not available for unknown reasons this morning.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 1995 Chevy SUV, was Justin J. Jaszko, 31. He suffered a leg injury and was taken to UMMC.

According to investigators, the accident occurred at 9:02 a.m. when Kimble apparently lost control of his eastbound Honda and crossed over the center of the road, striking Jaszko's westbound SUV.

Assisting at the scene were the volunteer fire departments of the Town of Batavia and East Pembroke and the Batavia City Police Department.

The investigation continues by the following individuals: Deputy John Duyssen, Deputy Lonnie Nati, Investigator Kristopher Kautz, Investigator Timothy Weis, Sgt. William Scott, Sgt. James Meier and Sgt. Steven Mullen.

At this point, no charges have been made.

Deputy Chief Gordon Dibble said it's too early in the investigation to say what factor weather or speed played in the accident.

"We just don't know about speed," Dibble said. "We have two or three eyewitnesses and they will help us. Obviously, the road conditions are what they are. We have winter road conditions."

At least two serious injuries in accident on West Main Street Road, Batavia

A person has been ejected from a vehicle in an accident in the area of 3842 W. Main St. Road, Town of Batavia.

There are at least two serious injuries and possibly more.

Mercy Flight is unavailable.

Batavia Fire and Mercy EMS responding.

Batavia Police requested to shut down all westbound traffic.

UPDATE 9:14 a.m.: All eastbound traffic is shut down at Route 5 and Wortendyke Road. A third ambulance is called for. East Pembroke Fire Department is called to assist. A flatbed tow truck and another tow are called for.

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.: A man with minor injuries is being transported to UMMC. His grandfather had just arrived at the scene and was advised of this.

UPDATE 9:34 a.m.: The city's police chaplain is called to the scene. He is closer than the Sheriff's chaplain.

UPDATE 9:40 a.m.: There is one fatality. A victim is being transported to Erie County Medical Center.

UPDATE: As of 11 a.m., West Main Street Road reopened in both directions.
