Two cars have reportedly hit head on in the area of 6758 Alleghany Road, Alabama.
Three people are apparently uninjured and a fourth person has an ankle injury.
Alabama Fire Department is on site. Mercy EMS is responding.
UPDATE: 9:40 p.m. (Billie): The scene is clear. A male with an ankle injury was taken to UMMC. All responders back in service.
One of a series of loose manhole covers on Route 5 through the city damaged a truck driving on West Main Street early this morning.
The driver, Lawrence Tassone, 80, of Batavia was uninjured, but the axel on his truck was broken.
After the manhole cover hit the truck, the truck drove up a curb near Union Street and the manhole cover flew some distance, according to WBTA's Dan Fischer, who happened upon the accident scene just before 5:30 a.m.
Route 5/Main Street, is the jurisdiction of the state Department of Transportation, but the manhole cover is owned by Verizon.
Lori Maher, spokeswoman for the DOT out of Rochester, said the DOT received a complaint from city officials about loose manhole covers in Batavia and determined these particular manhole covers were owned by Verizon, so Verizon was notifed.
This afternoon, after the manhole cover at Union Street came off again, the DOT sent a traffic safety truck to steer traffic around the loose cover and a crew was on its way to place a steel plate over the cover.
It will be up to Verizon to provide a long-term fix to the problem.
A spokesman for Verizon said a statement about the situation will be forthcoming, but The Batavian has not received it yet.
John Bonomo from Verizon released this statement: "We are aware of the situation and are working with a contractor to remedy the situation."
Maher said that as far as liability for damage to Tassone's truck, that matter has been turned over to an insurance company.
City officials say they contacted the DOT about the situation in January and that the problem isn't just with the manhole cover at Union Street, but that the problem extends with Verizon-owned manhole covers from Vine Street to Union.

A 30-year-old man is unconscious following a motocross accident at Area 51.
East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding. Mercy Flight in Batavia is on ground standby.
Area 51 is located at 3500 Harloff Road.
UPDATE 6:05 p.m.: Mercy Flight is requested to the scene.
UPDATE 6:06: Mercy Flight is canceled.
UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: Howard was told by the manager of Area 51 that the man was knocked unconscious but provided no other details. This was not a fatality, but we have no further details about his condition, where he was transported or if he was transported.
There's a one-car accident at the corner of Oak and Main streets with possible injuries. The vehicle struck a tree.
UPDATE (by Howard) 1:33 p.m.: The driver apparently lost brake power, according to police, and swerved to avoid hitting another car. The driver was transported by Mercy EMS to UMMC for evaluation, but is not believed to be injured. City Fire Department responded, as well.
A car has reportedly struck a small metal can on Route 19 just south of Sackett Road causing a fuel spill.
The can is lodged under the vehicle.
It's believed to be a small spill.
Bergen Fire Department is responding.
A chief reports there is a second incident further down the road involving another can.

A car has struck a pole at 2811 Pratt Road, just east of Powers Road. There are no injuries reported. The pole snapped in half. There are electrical and cable wires down.
East Pembroke Fire Department is responding. Law enforcement is on location.
UPDATE 11:54 a.m.: Westbound traffic on Pratt Road is being shut down.
UPDATE 11:58 p.m.: National Grid was contacted. No ETA given.
UPDATE 12:04 p.m.: National Grid expects to be on scene in about 15 minutes.
UPDATE 12:43 p.m.: The roadway is reopened. Responders are back in service.
Funeral arrangements have been set for Gerald M. Olin Jr., 76, of Perry, who died Tuesday in a trucking accident on Route 19 in Bergen.
Olin's truck left the roadway and overturned just east of Bovee Road shortly before 9 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, as well as several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Olin was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 pm. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, 98 N. Main St. in Perry. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Perry Center.
An ambulance has been requested to the scene of a school bus vs. car accident at State Street and West Saile Drive to evaluate a student for an apparent minor injury.
Initially, no ambulance was dispatched because it was thought there were no injuries, but there may be one very minor injury.
Mercy EMS dispatched.
UPDATE: Town of Batavia fire also dispatched. One person -- apparently older than the students on the bus -- was taken to UMMC for evaluation. State Police are handling the investigation.
A 76-year-old milk hauler from Perry died this morning when his rig went straight through a curve on Route 19 in Bergen and overturned when it hit the muddy shoulder.
The cab of the truck landed on its roof and was crushed in the accident, according to Sgt. Kurt Schmitt, New York State Police, Troop A.
Pronounced dead at the scene was Gerald M. Olin. He was driving for Kuszulyk, a milk delivery company.
The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. in the area of 7218 South Lake Road, between Route 33 and Maple Avenue/Bovee Road.
Schmitt said no cause of the accident is immediately apparent and it remains under investigation.
"We've had our truck inspectors out to look at the truck and nothing obvious (was found)," Schmitt said. "Of course, the truck was upside down, but there was nothing obvious. Once we get the truck upright, they will be back to take a further look."
Bill Ehrmentraut lives very near the accident location and said the crash was loud enough to rattle his house.
"It was a hard crash," Ehrmentraut said. "I knew it wasn't just a car accident. It sounded like thunder, but you could feel the weight."
Ehrmentraut said he took a look at the truck's wheel marks through the mud and where the truck wound up and said it looked like the truck just went straight through the bend in the road with no attempt to turn or slow.
It's not known right now, Schmitt said, if Olin suffered some kind of medical condition that may have contributed to the accident.
Route 19 south of Route 33 remains closed at 1:30 p.m.
Olin was carrying a nearly full load of milk and a second tanker was brought in to off-load the cargo.
A tow service was able to then begin trying to right the truck.
A truck has rolled over and a person may be trapped in a vehicle in the area of 7218 South Lake Road, Bergen.
Bergen Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 10:35 a.m.: State Police have confirmed this is a fatal accident. The truck was hauling milk.
A car has reportedly hit a deer on the east I-490 somewhere in the Le Roy or Bergen area and the car is reportedly leaking gas.
Both Bergen and Le Roy fire departments dispatched since the exact location has not been determined.
It is approximately in the area of mile marker 2.7 or could be east of the Bergen exit.
There are no injuries reported.
UPDATE 9:23 p.m.: The vehicle has been located in the eastbound lane just west of the Bergen exit.

The outside of the Pembroke Family Medical Center, 860 Main Road, Corfu, was damaged Thursday when an unknown driver hit a pillar of the building.
The driver then fled the scene.
The accident occurred at 11:15 a.m.
The car is described as a darker gray late model Nissan. The driver is believed to be female.

The driver of a car that was struck by a large, wind-downed tree on Lewiston Road yesterday was not injured in the 11:13 a.m. crash.
Eileen E. Siano, 49, of Lewiston Road, was northbound when she noticed a tree starting to fall into the roadway. Siano swerved to the right to try and avoid the falling oak, but it struck her car, causing heavy damage.
Siano was driving a 2008 Chevy sedan.
A tree was blown onto the roadway at 6804 Lewiston Road and it was struck by a car. The driver is said to be "shaken up." The tree is completely blocking the road.
The location is between Bliss and Macomber roads. Mercy medics and Oakfield fire are en route. Fire police for traffic control are called.
UPDATE 11:23 a.m.: The tree is about five to six feet in diameter -- it's a big oak -- and the chief has called for chainsaws and loaders to cut up and haul away the wood.
UPDATE 11:38 a.m.: The driver is out of the car now.
UPDATE 12:20 p.m.: The roadway is clear and is open to traffic. Crews are back in service.
A tractor-trailer rollover accident is reported at the junction of Alleghany and Ham roads. Alabama Fire Department is en route. Sheriff's deputies are heading there for traffic control.
UPDATE 11:25 a.m.: The tractor-trailer is a "box unit" that is empty but contained about 150 gallons of fuel, which is leaking. Mercy medics were called but cancelled.
UPDATE 11:48 a.m.: Route 77 is being shut down from Ham to Ledge roads.
Two cars going in the opposite direction on Railroad Avenue in Alexander struck side view mirrors and the driver in one of the vehicles suffered minor cuts as a result of the accident.
Nicholas A. Antonucci, 23, of 4192 Broadway Road, Alexander, was eastbound in a 2009 Dodge pickup, and Edward R. Reiter, 58, of East Main Street, Attica, was westbound in a 1990 Ford dump truck when their mirrors struck.
Reiter suffered cuts on his arm but was not transported to a hospital.
The accident occurred at 1:06 p.m.
No citations were issued.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Chris Parker.
Earlier this week, Antonucci was charged by City Police with driving with ability impaired by drugs.
The Sheriff's Office is looking for help identifying the owner of a green pickup truck possibly involved in a minor-injury accident on Route 77 at Gabbey Road earlier today.
The truck apparently pulled into traffic from Gabbey Road onto Route 77 at about 11:29 a.m.
A passenger in a car headed southbound on Route 77 grabbed the wheel of the car and turned the car to the right in order to avoid a collision. The car went off the road and its undercarriage was damaged.
The only information on the truck is that is was full-sized and green.
The truck, which continued northbound, was not struck.
The driver of the car, a 2003 Ford SUV, Maria C. Valentin, 35, of Normal Avenue, Buffalo, suffered a minor injury, but did not require transport to a hospital.
The passenger, Wilson J. Alvarado, 38, was not injured.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Chris Parker.

An ATV rider suffered a broken leg while riding at an ATV race track on Halstead Road, Alexander, on Saturday.
Michael A. Royce, 22, of 4073 Four Rod Road, East Aurora, was driving the ATV over a jump. When the ATV landed, Royce was ejected and the ATV landed on his right knee.
Royce was transported by ambulance to an area hospital (not identified in the report).
The accident was reported at 7:41 p.m. and was investigated by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.
A car has reportedly gone off the road at 6842 Randall Road, Le Roy, traveling through the yard and striking a parked car.
Unknown injuries.
Le Roy Fire and Le Roy Ambulance dispatched.
UPDATE 4:50 p.m.: Units responding can come in non-emergency. No injuries.
A woman driving on Hutton Road early this morning lost control of her car and it overturned after striking a utility pole guide wire.
The cause of the accident was not included in the Sheriff's Office report and no citations were issued.
The woman, Hope M. Conibear, of Gibson Street, Oakfield, was conscious and alert when extricated from the vehicle and transported by ground ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Conibear was northbound on Hutton Road at 4 a.m. when her 1994 Chevy sedan crossed into the southbound lane, went off the west shoulder, striking an earthen embankment. The car continued northbound, striking the guide wire and becoming airborne. It landed on its roof on top of an old concrete bridge.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Eric Seppala.
