Weather conditions causing havoc on the roads

There are multiple accidents countywide due to weather conditions. The Thruway has accidents at several paces eastbound and westbound, most thought to be noninjury.

Many calls are flooding the dispatch center and dispatchers are asking for all scanner communications to be kept to a minimum.

Propane truck and another truck crash in Le Roy

A propane truck and another truck have crashed at 8053 Lake St. Road in Le Roy. Le Roy Fire and Ambulance are called. Injuries unknown.

Bergen Fire Department is asked to standby in its quarters.

UPDATE 11:50 a.m.: Bergen is now requested to go to the scene. A second ambulance is called. State Trooper is on scene.

UPDATE 11:57 a.m.: Bergen is told to go back in service. A trucker trying get through the clogged traffic is reportedly "in a hurry," to which someone replies "no doubt."

Tractor-trailer and vehicle crash on Thruway

A serious accident involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle on the Thruway is reported. There are believed to be multiple injuries.

The location is eastbound at mile marker 387.3. It's nearest to the Byron Road Bridge.

Town of Batavia Fire Department is called to respond along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 11:47 a.m.: Oakfield Fire is requested to standby in the Town of Batavia's hall.

Cause of rollover accident on Clinton Street Road under investigation

The cause of a rollover accident on Clinton Street Road yesterday evening remains under investigation.

The driver was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight with non-life threatening injuries.

No citations have been issued.

Jody B. Gillette, 50, of Pine Hollow Drive, Batavia, was driving a 1993 Chrysler sedan east on Route 33 when he lost control of his car for an unknown reason. The car left the roadway, struck a sewer pipe and overturned coming to rest on its roof.

Town of Batavia fire, State Troopers, Sheriff's deputies and Mercy EMS responded to the 6:32 p.m. accident near Terry Hills.

The accident is being investigated by Deputy Cory Mower.

Non-injury accident leads to alleged discovery of brass knuckles

A Rochester man was arrested for allegedly possessing brass knuckles Wednesday after getting involved in a one-car, non-injury accident on Park Road.

Charged with criminal possession of a weapon, 4th, was Joseph Samuel Caiazza, 32, of Elmwood Avenue, Rochester.

Caiazza said he was pulling out of the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel at 10:38 a.m. when his phone rang. When he went to answer it, he struck a utility pole.

Caiazza also received citations for alleged failure to maintain lane and alleged equipment violations.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Chris Parker.

Rollover accident on Clinton Street Road

A rollover accident, with unknown injuries, is reported in the area of 5007 Clinton St. Road in the Town of Batavia.

Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

The vehicle is on its roof and two people are the driver is trapped inside. Extraction equipment will be needed. Gas is leaking from the vehicle.

UPDATE 6:39 p.m.: Mercy Flight is called and will be flying in. A landing zone will be established.

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: Mercy Flight is preparing to land in the parking lot at Terry Hills Golf Course.

UPDATE 7 p.m.: The victims have has been extricated.

UPDATE 7:25 p.m.: Mercy Flight is headed to Strong Memorial Hospital with a male patient who is alert.

UPDATE 7:30 p.m.: The scene is cleaned up and all units are back in service.

Motor-vehicle accident with injuries on Thruway

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on the Thruway in the westbound lanes at mile marker 395.8.

East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 3:35 p.m.: Traffic is backed up all the way to Kelsey Road. One lane is blocked. A second ambulance is requested. State Troopers are on location.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: Mercy EMS is told to go back in service. Oakfield is continuing.

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: Emergency responders are back in service.

Car crashes into trees off West Bergen Road

A car reportedly crashed into some trees on West Bergen Road just south of the Thruway.

There are unconfirmed injuries.

Le Roy Fire and Ambulance dispatched.

UPDATE 11:01 a.m.: No injuries. A fire hydrant was struck. Monroe County water being notified.

UPDATE 11:05 a.m.: Le Roy units back in service.

Two rollover accidents in Alabama

Two rollover accidents, one with minor injuries, are reported in Alabama.

One of them is at 1564 Lewiston Road, near Church Street. Alabama Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

The other is a 1790 Judge Road and the vehicle is on its side. Oakfield Fire Department is responding, although it's in Alabama's district. No injuries. Mercy medics are responding nonemergency-mode to evaluate those involved.

Person suffers neck injury in car/deer accident

A person reportedly suffered a neck injury after a vehicle struck a deer at Route 19 and Pavilion Center Road.

Pavilion Fire Department is responding. A Monroe County ambulance was transporting a patient back to Monroe County and stopped at the accident scene, dispatch informed Pavilion.

Car hits tree in Bergen

A car as hit a tree on Lake Road, near Sackett Road, in Bergen.  

The elderly driver is reportedly disoriented.

Bergen Fire and Mercy EMS responding.

UPDATE 9:15 p.m.: Lake Road is not being closed, but Fire Police are trying to slow down traffic.

UPDATE 9:20 p.m.: Mercy's response canceled. No injuries.

Seven people escape injury in accident on Route 19, Le Roy

None of the seven people involved in a two-car accident in Le Roy on Saturday afternoon were injured.

The driver of one car, Cody A. Busch, 19, of Batavia, said he was trying to brake for another car when he lost control of the 1989 Pontiac he was driving and the car spun into oncoming traffic.

The Pontiac struck a 2002 Kia driven by Angelo J. Rampino, 38, of Tonawanda.

No citations were issued following the 5:33 p.m. accident on Route 19 in the area of 8623 Lake Road.

In Busch's car were James K. Goodenow, 39, and Kristine M. Reynolds, 21.  In Rampino's car were Heather C. Rampino, 37, Angelo J. Rampino II, 4, and Deborah A. Gillmor, 57.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Graff.

Excessive speed for conditions blamed for accident

One person suffered a minor injury and three others were unhurt in a rollover accident on Route 63 on Saturday that was blamed on excessive speed for conditions.

The driver, Laura F. Schimpf, 18, of Bishop Street, Watertown, received a citation.

Her passenger, Lauren S. Aulet, 18, reportedly had minor cuts and glass in her eye.

Uninjured were Stephanie Kingsbury, 19, and Allison J. Cropsey, 18.

Schimpf was reportedly driving north on Ellicott Street Road near Route 20 in Pavilion when her car went off the east shoulder. The 2007 Hyundai sedan struck a snowbank and over turned, coming to rest on its roof.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Chris Parker.

Mercy Flight responds to snowmobile accident in Bethany

A snowmobiler was injured this evening in the area of Transit Road, east of Dublin Road.

The accident was reported at 9:20 p.m.

The injured rider was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight.

Bethany Fire responded with mutual aid from Alexander and Stafford.

UPDATE: The Sheriff's Office has released additional information: The rider was Steven L. Klien, 41. He was ejected from his snowmobile for an unknown reason while traveling in a southern direction on a marked trail. Klien was then struck by a snowmobile operated by Michael K. Owens, 39. Klien suffered a cut on his leg and a possible broken leg. The investigation is continuing, but alcohol is not considered a factor.

Two injured after a car hits a cow on Route 20

There are two cars involved in an accident on Route 20, Alexander, near Silver Road. At least one of them struck a cow.

Both drivers are complaining of back pain.

Alexander Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

An off-duty trooper is on scene and reports several cows in the roadways, most of them on Silver Road. The owner of the herd is responding to the scene.

UPDATE 6:56 p.m.: There's a second, non-injury accident in front of Alexander's rec hall.

UPDATE 7:21 p.m: The cows are back in the barn and the roads are clear.

Route 19 being shut down for minor injury accident

A two-car, minor injury accident is reported at Lake Street near West Bergen Road.

Le Roy Fire Police requested to the scene to shut down traffic on Route 19.

Chaos on Route 77

A slew of vehicle accidents are reported back-to-back on Route 77, south of Indian Falls Road.

"I've got cars blowing through here, going into the ditches in front of me," says a frustrated fire chief.

There are numerous injuries. Multiple ambulances are called.

"We've got a mess here Batavia," says a responder.

Corfu Fire Department is called to shut down the Thruway interchange with Route 77. Alabama Fire Department is shutting down Akron Road at Route 77. Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy medics are also responding.

The initial call was for a one-car rollover accident with minor injuries at 8155 Alleghany Road. The vehicle was on fire but that was quicky doused. The driver was said to have a minor injury.

Then, as if instantly, the pile-ups started.

"Like my brother says 'Welcome to the money store! Come on in and take what you want!'" says a responder.

State Troopers are on scene.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: Two victims have neck injuries and a total of five people need to be transported. A fourth ambulance out of Akron is called. A separate accident scene, involving one vehicle, is called further south on Route 77 over the Thruway overpass. Five tow trucks are called to Route 77.

UPDATE 4:14 p.m.: Patients being transported out, tow trucks coming into the scene.

UPDATE 4:25 p.m.: Corfu back in service.

UPDATE 4:58 p.m.: Pembroke and Indian Falls clearing. There is a report of another car off the road about a mile north of the scene.

Pavilion, Le Roy respond to Covington accident

A one-car rollover accident with four victims is reported at Route 19 and Court Road in the Town of Covington. Pavilion Fire Department, Le Roy Ambulance and Mercy EMS are responding.

The accident occurred "at the curve" there. Pavilion-Warsaw and Court roads are being shut down to traffic.

One of the victims has back pain.

Another accident, same place, in Basom

More cars have crashed at the same location as an earlier incident in Basom. It's in front of the Alabama Tee Off driving range, 6655 Alleghany Road.

Callers are not sure if this is a four-car accident or two accidents each involving two cars. Injuries appear to be minor. One person is said to have back pain.

Alabama Fire Department and Fire Police are called along with Mercy medics.

Traffic is being shut down at Judge Road and Route 77 and Ham Road and Route 77.

UPDATE 2:47 p.m.: The roads are reopened. The scene is clear. Alabama units are back in service.
