Accident reported on Route 33 at Prole Road, Stafford

A motor vehicle accident with injuries has been reported at Route 33 and Prole Road, Town of Stafford.

Stafford Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.: At least three injuries reported.

UPDATE 4:18 p.m.: No serious injuries reported, but at least one person needs to be extricated from a vehicle.

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: At least two patients being transported to Strong.

Car accident at Route 98 and West Saile Drive, Batavia

A two-car accident with possibly one minor injury is reported at Route 98 and West Saile Drive. It is partially blocking the roadway. Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: A responder says extrication will be needed.

UPDATE 3:32 p.m.: A second ambulance is requested. One vehicle has heavy front-end damage and will require a flatbed tow.

UPDATE 3:34 p.m.: The driver of a gray car in a ditch will require extrication.

UPDATE 3:36 p.m.: West Saile Drive is being shut down completely.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: An accident investigator is called to the scene. Some responders are put back in service.

UPDATE 3:53 p.m.: One medic is back in service after patient refusal of treatment.

UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: The other medic is transporting two patients to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 4:11 p.m.: Town of Batavia is back in service.

UPDATE (by Howard): A witness said he saw the accident in his rearview mirror.  He said the black car turned right off West Saile Drive and swerved, for no obvious reason, into oncoming traffic. Even before the car started to swerve, he said the silver car was slowing down. The driver of the silver car needed to be extricated. Both the driver and her passenger were taken by ground ambulance to a hospital. The driver of the black car was not injured. We'll try to get an update from the State Police later.

One person flown to ECMC following mid-morning accident on Route 77, Pembroke

Three people were injured in a two-car accident on Route 77 at 10:20 a.m. after one driver allegedly made an illegal left turn.

Flown by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center was Henrietta E. Feldman, 85, of Lawrence Avenue, Corfu.

Feldman was also cited for the alleged illegal turn.

According to the investigation by Deputy Brian Thompson, Feldman was northbound on Route 77 near Cohocton Road, Pembroke, when she executed a left-hand turn at 9114 Alleghany Road.

The other driver, John E. Bailey, 48, of Farrell Extension, Henrietta, had no time to react, witnesses told Thompson.

The roadways were covered with heavy rain at the time of the accident, according to Thompson's report.

Also injured where two of Bailey's passengers. They are Meghan L. Morehouse, 24, and Alberta E. Male, 86, who was reportedly in shock when transported by Mercy EMS to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Linda M. Bailey, 47, also a passenger in John Bailey's vehicle, was not injured.

Feldman's 1999 Chevy sedan left the roadway and overturned after being struck by Bailey's 2011 Toyota sedan. Bailey's vehicle skidded and turned, coming to rest pointing north in the southbound lane.

Crash at routes 19 and 33, Bergen

A two-car accident is reported at the intersection of routes 19 and 33. One person is believed to be injured and the accident is not blocking. Bergen Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 4:11 p.m.: A responder on scene reports there are two people injured. One is complaining of head pain and the other has general pain. A second ambulance is dispatched.

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: One patient is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 4:39 p.m.: The second patient is being taken to UMMC.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: Bergen fire is back in service.

Accident with injuries reported on Route 33 near Wilkinson Road

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on Route 33 and Wilkinson Road, Batavia.

East Pembroke fire and Mercy EMS responding.

The vehicles are blocking.

One person is complaining of back pain.

UPDATE 5:42 p.m.: Three vehicles involved.

UPDATE 5:43 p.m.: Three ambulances requested to the scene.

Two people injured on Route 77 when car turns into passing truck

A driver may have failed to signal before making a left-hand turn on Route 77 in Alabama this afternoon leading to a collision with a semi-truck that was trying to pass his vehicle.

Both the driver and one of his passenger's were injured in the 1:06 p.m. accident at the intersection of Route 77 and Ledge Road.

No citations were issued, according to the accident report prepared by Deputy Chris Parker.

Suffering minor injuries were Randolph S. Mattice, 44, of Court Street, Syracuse, and Christie A. Rogers, 51.

Both a witness and the truck driver reported they didn't see a turn signal on Mattice's vehicle.

The truck driver, William Conroy, 42, of Williamee Road, Trumansburg, was not injured.

Suzanne M. Walsh, owner of the 2000 Pontiac Driven by Mattice, was also uninjured.

MVA with minor injuries on Route 77, Alabama

A motor-vehicle accident with minor injuries is reported on Route 77 between Ledge and Marble roads. Alabama Fire Department is responding along with medics.

UPDATE 1:21 p.m.: The accident involves a car and a tractor-trailer.

UPDATE 1:24 p.m.: A second ambulance is requested, out of Oakfield. The tractor-trailer's fuel tank is intact.

UPDATE 1:46 p.m.: One patient is being transported to the hospital in Warsaw.

UPDATE 1:49 p.m.: A second patient is being taken to the Warsaw hospital.

UPDATE 2:07 p.m.: Alabama is back in the hall, in service.

Driver whose truck hit a tree in Pavilion still hospitalized, in satisfactory condition

A 64-year-old Wyoming Steuben County resident whose pickup truck struck a tree in Pavilion is in satisfactory condition at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was taken by Mercy Flight following the accident at 4:19 p.m., Sunday.

Kentin P. Dana, of Veterans Avenue, Bath, apparently suffered a medical condition, which led to the accident.

Dana was southbound on Route 63 when his 2000 Ford pickup went off the road and struck a tree.

Pavilion Fire Department and Mercy EMS responded and found Dana semiconscious in his vehicle.

The accident was invested by Deputy Cory Mower.

Serious injury accident off Swamp Road in Byron

A serious injury accident is reported at Swamp Road, east of Hessenthaler Road. There are reportedly two people unconscious in the vehicle. Byron and South Byron fire departments are responding along with Mercy medics. A responder on scene has spotted the vehicle in the middle of a field. Mercy Flight is put on standby.

UPDATE 5:28 p.m.: They are asking that extraction equipment be brought in.

UPDATE 5:31 p.m.: Fire police from Bergen are requested to shut down Swamp Road at Pocock Road.

UPDATE 5:34 p.m.: Mercy Flight is heading to the scene.

UPDATE 5:38 p.m.: Mercy Flight has landed.

UPDATE 5:49 p.m.: One male required extrication and was boarded on Mercy Flight, which is now airborne.

UPDATE 5:59 p.m.: The man is being taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

SUV vs. tree on Dodgeson Road, Alexander

A gray SUV veered off the pavement and struck a tree at 2971 Dodgeson Road in Alexander. There may be minor injuries. The trooper on scene has called for a medic to evaluate those involved. Alexander fire, or perhaps Darien, will be responding along with a medic. The vehicle's damage is said to be substantial.

UPDATE 5:42 p.m.: The vehicle ended up on nearby Seward Road.

UPDATE 5:52 p.m.: Darien is back in service, so are Mercy medics.

Tot struck by vehicle on South Main Street in the city

A 3-year-old has reportedly been struck by a vehicle at 20 S. Main St. in the city. The location is between Walnut and Pearl streets. City fire is on scene and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 3:05 p.m.: City Engine 12 is back in service.

UPDATE 3:16 p.m.: Minor injuries. The boy was taken to UMMC. Early indications are the family was walking across the street and the boy darted out in front of them.

Car accident with woman trapped underneath reported in Alexander

A motor-vehicle accident, with a woman possibly trapped underneath a car, is reported at 2967 Pike Road. Alexander Fire and Ambulance are responding. The location is between Upton and Halstead roads.

UPDATE 11:21 p.m.: A firefighter on scene reports the woman is not trapped at this point.

UPDATE 11:34 a.m.: The woman is being transported to UMMC. Alexander fire is back in service.

Vehicle strikes tree on Big Tree Road, Pavilion

A motor vehicle has struck a tree at 6969 Big Tree Road in Pavilion. One person is said to be unresponsive. Pavilion Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: The male driver is responsive, but lethargic. The engine of his pickup truck is smoking. Mercy Flight is on in-air standby.

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: The driver is said not to know where he is or how he got there. The location is between East Park Street and York Road.

UPDATE 4:38 p.m.: Mercy Flight is en route from Buffalo and the ETA is about 10 minutes. The 4-wheel drive truck has extensive front-end damage. Mercy Flight's landing zone will be set up at the high school.

UPDATE 4:58 p.m.: Mercy Flight is on the ground. A responder has asked for assistance with traffic control.

UPDATE 5:07 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne, but we didn't hear its destination. Mercy medics are back in service.

UPDATE 5:14 p.m.: The Pavilion assignment is back in service.

 

Injury reported in car-deer accident on Lewiston Road

A car-deer accident with injuries is reported at Fisher Road and Lewiston Road, Oakfield.

Oakfield fire and ambulance responding.

UPDATE 1:38 p.m.: At least one victim with cuts from glass and minor bruising where the deer hit her.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: Oakfield Engine 72 back in service.

Woman who didn't immediately seek treatment for injuries in serious condition at ECMC

A 22-year-old woman apparently suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident Monday night but she and her companion did not seek immediate medical assistance, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

The woman is now in intensive care at Erie County Medical Center.

Ashley B. Jones was a passenger at 11:30 p.m., Monday, on an ATV driven by Eric Swede, 23, as the couple rode on a driveway off Rogers Road, Pavilion.

The couple was northbound on the gravel driveway when the ATV struck some trees and both were ejected.

Swede suffered head and hand injuries.

Jones suffered face and head injuries.

By Tuesday, her condition worsened and she was driven by private vehicle to UMMC. From there she was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Sgt. Steven Mullen and Deputy John Baiocco.

Photos: To honor LaVerne Bridge, pallbearers adopt his favorite clothing style

LaVerne "Vern" M. Bridge was a man known to enjoy working in his yard and being seen around town in work boots, blue jeans, suspenders and a baseball cap.

Today, at the Maple Avenue Cemetery in Elba, Bridge was laid to rest in his favorite attire while his pallbearers and some friends wore similar clothing in his honor.

The 84-year-old Oakfield resident was working in his yard at 6624 Fisher Road last week, apparently cutting down a tree, when the tree fell on him.

Pallbearers in the top photo are, from left, Joe Seweryniak, John Latko, Rob Warboys, Scott Mabon, Andrew Fowler and Roy Scroger.

Batavia woman injured in Wyoming County crash

A 48-year-old Batavia woman was injured in a motor vehicle accident at 8:15 a.m., Monday, in the Town of Middlebury after another driver allegedly failed to stop for stop sign.

Patricia E. Chaya, 48, was transported to UMMC for treatment.

Chaya was heading south on East Bethany Road when Rebecca A. Tallman, 21, of Telephone Road, Le Roy, allegedly failed to stop at the intersection of West Middlebury Road and East Bethany.

Tallman was issued a traffic citation.

The accident was investigated by the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office.

Bethany Fire Department responded to the scene.

Car vs. truck accident at Alleghany and Sumner roads in Darien

A car vs. truck accident with injury is reported at Alleghany and Sumner roads. One engine from Darien Fire Department and an ambulance are responding. One person is said to have a head injury. It is blocking traffic.

UPDATE 1:21 p.m.: A person is being transported to Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo.

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Turns out there were multiple injuries in this accident. At least three ambulances are transporting patients. Another person is going to Sisters of Charity Hospital and four are inbound for UMMC.

UPDATE 1:35 p.m.: Darien fire went back in service a few minutes ago.
