Three-car accident in Oakfield

An accident is reported in Oakfield. Three vehicles are involved, and in the third car, there's a man slumped over the steering wheel at 106 S. Main St. It is believed to have initially occurred on Orchard Road, for reasons that are unclear, those involved are in three different locations, spread over a mile-long area. An Alabama firefighter happens to be with one of the parties involved outside the village; she is said to be shaken up but otherwise OK. State troopers and medics are responding.

UPDATE 11:36 a.m.: Sheriff's deputies are also responding. Initial reports indicate that at South Main near Orchard, the driver of a green car "took out two others. They just didn't see each other." That driver was slumped over the steering wheel. The other vehicles are possibly at Route 63 and Fisher Road, and at Route 63 and the village line. Responders are taking more information and there is some confusion about the whole scene.

UPDATE 11:48 p.m.: Mercy medics are transporting the driver of the green car to UMMC. Oakfield Fire Department, which also responded to the scene, is back in service. The other people involved in the accident are not injured.

Route 20 closed to truck traffic for tractor-trailer accident in Alexander

Route 20 is being closed to truck traffic between Route 63 in Pavilion and Route 77 in Darien because of an overnight tractor-trailer accident.

At 12:58 a.m., a tractor-trailer overturned on Route 20 in the area of Brookville Road, Alexander.

According to a dispatcher, the trailer broke away from the truck and the axles broke off the trailer.

A tow company is on scene now trying to upright the trailer.

Alexander Fire Department is on scene.

No injuries were reported.

UPDATE 6:38 a.m.: Chief Lance Schaulau on scene this morning said the driver reported swerving to miss a deer and went off the north shoulder of the roadway. The westbound truck was hauling retail items for a discount chain. Deputy Kevin Carlson estimated that Route 20 wouldn't open until after 7 a.m., and perhaps not before 8 a.m. Route 20 is closed to all traffic between Route 98 and Brookville Road.

UPDATE 7:38 a.m.: Two trucks are arriving on scene to gather up the spilled product.

UPDATE 7:51 a.m.: Darien fire at Route 77 and Pavilion fire at Route 63 are going back in service. Route 20 is reopened to truck traffic. The area of the crash will be reduced to one lane of traffic with a deputy and state trooper on scene to direct traffic. Alexander fire, which has been on scene since 1 a.m., is going back in service.

UPDATE 8:58 a.m.: Road reopened about five minutes ago.

Bike rider injured at facility on Harloff Road

A dirt bike rider has reportedly been injured at Area 51, 5100 Harloff Road, Batavia.

The rider lost consciousness but is awake, though disoriented.

Mercy Flight is on ground standby.

East Pembroke Fire and Oakfield Ambulance responding.

UPDATE 8:19 p.m.: The patient is now reportedly unconscious. Mercy Flight dispatched.

UPDATE 8:28 p.m.: Mercy Flight 5 in route.

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: Patient is conscious and alert, complaining of hip and shoulder pain.

UPDATE 8:32 p.m.: Mercy Flight 5 is on the ground.

UPDATE 8:44 p.m.: Mercy Flight is flying to Erie County Medical Center.

Car crash with injuries at Route 5 and Roanoke Road, Stafford

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at Route 5 and Roanoke Road. Stafford Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. It is blocking traffic.

UPDATE 7:25 p.m.: Fire police from Le Roy are called to stop westbound traffic at Route 5 and Buckley Road.

UPDATE 7:29 p.m.: They're going to turn traffic around at the Red Osier Restaurant.

UPDATE 8:25 p.m.: The roadway is reopened. The Stafford assignment is back in service.

Car crash with injuries at Route 33 and West Bergen Road

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at Route 33 and West Bergen Road. Bergen Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 7:11 p.m.: There are three vehicles involved. There was airbag deployment, but injuries appear to be minor. The westbound lane is blocked.

UPDATE 7:14 p.m.: They want traffic stopped at 33 and West Bergen Road "so nobody goes north."

UPDATE 7:39 p.m.: Bergen is back in service, with the exception of one unit. The roadway is being reopened.

Driver with head injury accused of driving drunk, trying to flee the scene of accident

A man who suffered an apparent head injury in an accident early Sunday morning on Route 33 and was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital is being accused of driving drunk and trying to flee the scene of a personal injury accident.

Lawrence D. Boggs, 23, of West Main Street, Batavia, reportedly was helped out of his overturned vehicle at 12:19 a.m. and then tried to run down Wortendyke Road.

He was grabbed and detained by the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident.

Boggs is charged with DWI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign and unlicensed operator.

He is listed in stable condition at Strong.

The other driver, whose name was not released by the Sheriff's Office, was transported to UMMC with a minor injury, treated and released.

Boggs was driving a 1999 Dodge van southbound on Wortendyke Road when he allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign and stuck a 2008 Hummer eastbound on Route 33.

The van traveled off the roadway into a ditch and overturned.

The driver of the Hummer and other witnesses helped Boggs get out of the van.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Howard Carlson.

Assisting at the scene were other deputies, State Troopers, Mercy EMS, Mercy Flight and the East Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department.

Car crash with minor injuries on Main Road, Pembroke

A two-car, minor injury accident is reported 1643 Main Road, between Boyce and Cleveland roads. East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 7:43 p.m.: A car is blocking the westbound lane. A tow truck is called.

UPDATE 8:05 p.m.: East Pembroke is back in service.

Young man struck by car at 'The Hill' in Darien succombs to injuries

A 20-year-old resident of Mumford died this morning from injuries sustained in an accident on Sumner Road, Darien, last night.

Investigators said that at 9:05 p.m. Casey J. Parnell stepped from the south shoulder of Sumner Road into the roadway for no apparent reason.

He was struck by a 2009 Kia minivan driven by Amanda Cline, 39, of Homer.

The accident was reported at 1516 Sumner Road, at the base of an area known as "The Hill" or "Cherry Hill," and is reportedly a privately owned parking lot favored by many young people going to concerts at Darien Lake.

Parnell's action was described as "sudden."

While the accident remains under investigation, no charges are anticipated.

Parnell, who was flown to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight, succumbed to his injuries at 5:23 a.m.

None of the occupants of the minivan were injured.

Assisting the Sheriff's Office at the scene were State Police, Darien Volunteer Fire Department and Mercy EMS.

Accident with multiple injuries reported on Route 33 at Wortendyke

A rollover accident with multiple injuries is reported at Route 33 and Wortendyke Road, Batavia.

East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy EMS are dispatched.

UPDATE 12:30 a.m.: Not sure if this is related, but a dispatcher informs a deputy that another deputy "has the subject detained on Wortendyke."

UPDATE 12:33 a.m.: Mercy Flight on ground standby.

UPDATE 12:39 a.m.: Mercy Flight #5 requested to the scene.

UPDATE 12:50 a.m.: Mercy Flight #5 on the ground.

UPDATE 1:02 a.m.: Mercy Flight #5 in route to Strong.

UPDATE 1:08 a.m.: One patient being transported by Mercy EMS to UMMC with a minor leg injury.

Mercy Flight dispatched to 'The Hill' at Darien Lake for a car and pedestrian accident

A car has reportedly hit a pedestrian at an area known at "The Hill" on Sumner Road in Darien.

The location is across from Darien Lake Theme Park and is used for parking by people going to concerts at the performing arts center.

A deputy on scene requested Mercy Flight.

Darien Fire Department and an ambulance being dispatched along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 9:12 p.m. Mercy Flight #7 out of Buffalo in route. Traffic being shut down at Sumner and Route 77, and Colby and Sumner. The street address for the location is 1516 Sumner Road.

UPDATE 9:18 p.m.: The Darien chief wants access to the scene blocked for all non-emergency personnel. "I don't want nobody down here. Nobody," he said.

UPDATE 9:24 p.m.: An investigator at scene requests another investigator to respond with a camera. Also, Mercy Flight has landed.

UPDATE 9:28 p.m.: A reporter has shown up. No access to the scene for the media.

UPDATE 9:46 p.m.: Patient being loaded into Mercy Flight #7 now.

UPDATE 9:50 p.m.: Mercy Flight is in route to Erie County Medical Center.

UPDATE 10:01 p.m.: Sumner Road is open and Darien fire is back in service.

Biker avoids serious injury after hitting gravel on Parmalee Road, Le Roy

A 73-year-old motorcycle rider suffered only very minor injuries Friday after losing control of his bike on a road in Le Roy that had recently been resurfaced.

William J. Smith, of Le Roy, was northbound on Route 19 and turned onto Parmalee Road when he lost control of his bike.

Smith's bike went off the west shoulder and Smith went to the ground with the bike.

He did not require transport to a hospital.

No citations were issued.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Graff.

Accident at Oak and Richmond in the city

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at Oak Street and Richmond Avenue. One person is complaining of a chest injury. City firefighters and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 6:26 p.m.: There are two vehicles involved. One person requires extrication.

UPDATE 6:39 p.m.: The patient has been extricated.

UPDATE 7:36 p.m.: One patient was transported to a hospital. City fire is back in service.

Three-car accident reported on Route 77, Darien, as concertgoers still exiting

A three-car accident with multiple minor injuries is reported on Route 77 in Darien in front of the hotel at Darien Lake.

The accident is also blocking.

There was a concert at Darien Lake tonight and law enforcement has been tied up all evening dealing with fights and traffic. At about 11 p.m., Route 77 was reportedly backed up all the way to the Thruway.

Darien fire and ambulance along with Mercy EMS are responding to the accident.

Car crashes into bridge on eastbound Thruway

A car crashed into a bridge on the eastbound Thruway at mile marker 389 or at 384.3. There are believed to be injuries but there are conflicting reports as to the location. Town of Batavia and Le Roy fire units are responding along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE 5:38 p.m.: The location is determined to be mile marker 384.6 eastbound. Traffic is starting to back up. One car is blocking the driving lane. "It's the bridge over the creek."

UPDATE 5:41 p.m.: This is in Le Roy's fire district. Town of Batavia is returning to service. A fireman on scene says the driver is just shaken up but there are no serious injuries. A medic will evaluate her.

Cars pulling over for ambulance on Route 63 get tangled in accident

Two cars attempting to move aside for a southbound ambulance on Route 63 on Tuesday ended up bumping each other, sending one car off the roadway and into a sign post.

One person was slightly injured in the 10:58 a.m. accident.

Katelynn M. Hale, 19, of Stafford, was in the passing lane in the area of 5769 Ellicott St. Road, Bethany, when a Mercy EMS ambulance responding to an emergency call approached from behind.

Hale pulled to the right and collided with a car driven by Rita C. Vannorman, 25, of Arkport.

Vannorman was also attempting to pull over for the emergency vehicle. Her front right bumper hit Hale's back right bumper.

Hale complained of neck pain but did not require transport to a hospital.

No citations were issued.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Graff.

Driver says he fell asleep prior to car overturning on Route 77, Alabama

A driver involved in a rollover accident on Route 77, Alabama, on Friday said he fell asleep at the wheel.

Matthew R. Killburn, 22, of 1379 Bray Road, Arcade, was not seriously injured in the crash and did not require ambulance transport.

According to Deputy Tim Wescott's report, Killburn was northbound on Route 77 near Ledge Road at 6:15 p.m. when he fell asleep and his car traveled off the east shoulder and overturned.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Killburn was driving a 2005 Chevy sedan.

No citations were issued.

Motorcyclist down on State Street, minor injuries

A motorcycle accident is reported at 248 State St. The elderly rider is still in the street but said to have only minor injuries. City fire and Mercy EMS are responding. The location is between Douglas and Denio streets.

UPDATE 1:12 p.m.: City fire is back in service. EMS is transporting a 63-year-old male to UMMC.

Wide-load trailer accident at Main and Oak streets, Batavia

An accident involving a 54-foot pre-fab home being towed with a wide-load tractor-trailer is reported at the intersection of Main and Oak streets. The tractor-trailer has a broken axel and is up on the curb. The intersection is completely blocked. Police are on scene to control traffic. A heavy-duty tow truck will be required. "We're going to need a healthy supply of cones," says an officer.

UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: The tractor-trailer is being repaired on scene and is expected to be moved shortly, so the cones will not be needed. The mishap is completely blocking one lane on West Main Street in front of Hess Gas Station and part of the adjacent lane.

UPDATE 2:54 p.m.: The roadway is open.
