Car hits pole, causing power outage along Indian Falls Road

A truck has hit a utility pole in the area of 1550 Indian Falls Road, Corfu.

Power has been knocked out to several homes in the area.

It's in East Pembroke's district, but Indian Falls and Pembroke fire departments were initially dispatched.

No injuries are reported.

The pole was completely sheared off.

"The truck is pretty much demolished," a chief reports.

A portion of the pole is on top of the truck.

The road is not blocked.

UPDATE: The alleged driver, Jason Edward Schanley, 33, of Indian Falls Road, Corfu, was arrested and charged with DWI, driving with a BAC of .18 or greater and moving from the lane unsafely.

Driver accused of not stopping for red light, causing accident

A car that reportedly failed to stop for a stoplight allegedly caused an accident yesterday on Clinton Street Road that sent one person to the hospital.

Suffering non-life threatening injuries was a passenger in one of the cars, Kathleen L. Alianell, 81, address unknown.

No other injuries were reported.

Cited was Richard J. Satkowski, 75, of Blair Road in Medina.

The driver of the other car was Robert W. Frye, 59, of Lucinda Avenue, Rochester.

Satkowski was reportedly driving southbound on Batavia-Stafford Townline Road. Fry was driving west on Route 33. Satkowski reportedly failed to stop for the red light.

The accident was reported at 1:23 p.m.

Minor injury accident at Route 33 and Seven Springs Road

An injury accident is blocking the intersection of Clinton Street Road and Seven Springs Road, Batavia.

Stafford Fire and Mercy EMS are dispatched.

Minor injuries are reported.

A pickup truck has lost a wheel and rear axle and needs to be towed from the intersection.

One person critically injured in rollover accident on Thruway

A rollover accident on the Thruway at 2:48 p.m., yesterday, sent all five people in the GMC Jimmy to Erie County hospitals, two by Mercy Flight, with one person still listed in critical condition at ECMC.

The SUV was driven by Lorriann Mingle, 44, of Depew. Mingle apparently swerved to avoid an unidentified car coming into her lane of travel. When she tried to move back into her lane, she over corrected, according to State Police, and when her tires hit the soft shoulder, the car flipped over.

Her front seat passenger, Dawn Hess, 40, of Palmyra, suffered a head injury, broken ribs and a broken arm.

Hess is listed in critical condition.

Mingle suffered cuts and abrasions and was treated and released at ECMC.

The Thruway was closed in both directions for 30 minutes while Mingle and Hess were picked up by Mercy Flight.

Three children in the back seat were transported to Women's and Children's Hospital in Buffalo for evaluation of minor injuries. Their names were not released.

All five people were wearing their seat belts properly, according to State Police.

The driver of the other vehicle has not been identified and no charges are pending.

Injury accident reported on Tonawanda Reservation

A one-vehicle accident has been reported at Griffin and Bloomingdale roads, on the Tonawanda Reservation.

There is an injury.

Alabama Fire is responding along with Mercy EMS.

Tot with partially severed finger reported

A 3-year-old with a partially amputated finger is reported at a day care facility located at 4007 Pearl Street Road, just west of the Bethany-City of Batavia Townline Road. Bethany ambulance is called to respond mutual aid to the incident.

UPDATE (3:50 p.m.): An emergency responder reports that the 3-year-old was "slammed into a door" partially amputating a finger.

UPDATE (4:12 p.m.): A medic on scene says the victim is a girl boy whose left middle finger was injured. The young patient is too upset and in pain to give any details to emergency workers. She He is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE (5:45 p.m.): Like many of our reports, the particulars of this item came from the scanner. The operator of the day care facility called afterward to say the medic at the scene incorrectly stated that the victim was a girl.

"It's obvious he's a boy," she said.

Furthermore, she took issue with the statement that the child was "slammed into a door," stating that the incident was purely accidental and that a door was inadvertantly shut on the tot's hand, injuring his finger.

Rollover accident on westbound Thruway

A motor-vehicle rollover accident is reported on the Thruway, westbound at mile marker 403.5.

The vehicle is in the median. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE (2:58 p.m.): Mercy Flight is called. An engine from East Pembroke is called to stage the landing zone. More medics are called. There are serious injuries. Two young children are involved but are "walking around and seem to be OK."

UPDATE (3:02 p.m.): The westbound lanes are blocked to through traffic. Authorities are setting up the landing zone on the roadway. More manpower requested.

UPDATE (3:05 p.m.): Mercy Flight #6 is en route with a five-minute ETA. Mercy Flight #7 is on standby in Buffalo.

UPDATE (3:08 p.m.): Both Mercy Flights are traveling to the scene. The landing zone is ready.

UPDATE (3:23 p.m.): Both Mercy Flights are on the ground. Additional ambulance requested to proceed in emergency mode, and another from Erie County. Three children, ages 1, 6 and 7 are backboarded and collared, with cuts and bruises, and will be transported to the hospital by ambulance.

UPDATE (3:30 p.m.): Pembroke Fire command asks for hydration for the firefighters and others at the scene.

UPDATE (3:42 p.m.): The children are en route to Children's Hospital. The last ambulance requested was cancelled. Mercy Flights are in air. Roadway is to be opened back up ASAP.

Teen suffers head injury at motocross races

A teenage male reportedly suffered a head injury riding a motocross bike at Area 51 race track on Harloff Road. East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

Another racer is also being treated for an injury. No other information on this earlier incident, but the paramedics are still on scene.

Dirt bike rider suffers leg injury in accident in Byron

A 41-year-old dirt bike rider from Rochester was injured Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his bike while riding along abandoned railroad tracks in Byron.

Ernesto Rivera, of Portland Avenue, Rochester, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital following the 4:14 p.m. accident with a leg injury.

Rivera was reportedly riding along tracks known as the West Shore Tracks when his bike hit a knoll and he was ejected from the bike.

No other vehicles or people were involved in the accident. No citations were issued.

Vehicle plows into utility pole on North Road, Le Roy

A vehicle crashed into a utility pole at 8005 North Road in Le Roy, breaking the pole in half. Minor injuries are reported. Le Roy Fire and Le Roy Ambulance are responding.

The location is between Conlon and Hebbard roads, but closer to Conlon.

The roadway is completely blocked. Fire police are called to halt traffic at North Road and Route 19 and also at Conlon Road and Oatka Trail.

UPDATE (12:28 p.m.): The driver is out of the vehicle and walking around.

UPDATE (12:32 p.m.): National Grid has been notified about the damage. No ETA given.

UPDATE (12:45 p.m.): Before fire police could handle the traffic flow, a vehicle mowed down a stop sign somewhere in the vicinity and the county highway department is being notified. The authorities are determining whether there is a power outage. A pair of German shephards are in a nearby yard and if there is no power there, the dogs will need to be restrained, presumably because an electrical fence would not be working and the residents aren't home. National Grid is on scene.

UPDATE (1:05 p.m.): There is no phone service east of Conlon Road. The dispatcher says the downed line is reportedly for one of the largest service areas.

UPDATE (2:54 p.m.): National Grids says it will be four to five hours to complete repairs. More hazard cones to block traffic are requested from the county highway department, enough to block off three different traffic areas.

Woman charged with DWI after car destroyed by a train in Byron

A 26-year-old woman from Le Roy was charged with felony DWI last night after her car was destroyed by a train at the crossing on Caswell Road, Byron.

Jennifer Coombs was reportedly driving her 2002 Mercedes when it got hung up on the tracks.

A train struck and destroyed the car about 10:02 p.m. and Coombs and two passengers allegedly fled the scene.

Coombs was located by Sgt. Greg Walker a short distance from the scene.

She was also charged with unsafe lane change, unsafe tires and felony driving with a BAC of .08 or greater.

Train and car accident reported in Byron, Caswell Road

A train has reportedly hit a car at the railroad crossing on Caswell Road in Byron.

Byron and South Byron and Mercy EMS have been dispatched.

UPDATE 10:10 p.m.: CSX officials believe the car was unoccupied; however, the South Byron chief has asked an assistant chief to check the other side of tracks (than what he's on) for two young girls.

UPDATE 10:12 p.m.: An engineer reports seeing the two people running south on Caswell.

UPDATE 10:17 p.m.: A deputy has detained one female.

UPDATE 10:19 p.m.: The engineer saw two young women standing near the tracks. One had long blond hair and the other didn't. The deputy has detained the one who doesn't. The car is registered to an address in Monroe County.

UPDATE 10:32 p.m.: Byron back in service.

UPDATE 10:37 p.m.: The second occupent has been located, and a third occupent has been identified and found.

Car accident at routes 63 and 246 in Pavilion

A motor vehicle accident with minor injuries is reported in Pavilion at routes 63 and 246. Pavilion Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE (11:45 a.m.): A firefighter on scene reports there are no injuries. A medic is still responding but in nonemergency mode.

Open dump truck bed blamed for Thruway accident

Somebody reportedly forgot to put down the bed of a dump truck after it dumped its load at a construction site on the Thruway in Pembroke last night, according to State Police.

The driver of the truck, Sandra Palmer, 43, of Tonawanda, then proceeded West on the Thruway. Two miles later, the open bed of the truck struck the overpass of Route 77, causing the truck to rollover.

An emergency responder described the truck shortly after the 10:30 p.m. accident as "pretty well demolished."

The eastbound lane was shut down to set up a landing zone for Mercy Flight and Palmer was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center, where she is listed in fair condition this morning.

The truck was owned by Mallarie Entprises, Inc., out of Amherst.

An I-beam of the bridge was damaged, but a damage estimate was not available this morning.

Two-vehicle accident with minor injuries at West Main and Lyons

A two-vehicle accident with minor injuries is reported at West Main and Lyons streets. One of the vehicles reportedly rolled over.

The overturned vehicle needs to be uprighted ASAP to stop fuel leakage, says a firefighter on scene.

City Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

Truck vs. car accident closes Route 20 at Route 77

It may be a minor injury accident, but responders are requesting that Route 20 be closed at Route 77.

Alexander Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene of what was reported as a truck vs. car accident with minor injuries.

UPDATE Tuesday, 9:53 a.m.: We've received the accident report on this incident.

A tractor-trailer was westbound on Route 20, reportedly driven by Rashpal S. Jhutty, 43, of Alabaster Road, Rexdale, Ontario, Canada, when the truck apparently strayed into the eastbound lane.

Wendy Green, 52, of Alexander, pulled her 2003 Pontiac sedan out of a driveway in the area of 3082 Route 20.

Her vehicle was struck on the side, the back driver's side area and knocked off the roadway.

The cargo on the truck was reportedly not securely fastened and spilled onto Route 20.

No injuries were reported.

Jhutty was issued three citations, including one for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road.

The accident investigation was handled by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.

Car smashes into power pole in Bethany

A car has struck a pole at 5465 Ellicott St. Road, near Paul Road, in Bethany. Electrical wires are down. Bethany Fire Department is responding.

Southbound Route 63 is being shut down to one lane because of debris in the roadway. National Grid is responding to the scene in about 30 minutes.

UPDATE (2:03 p.m.): Pavilion Fire Department is asked to reroute all northbound tractor-trailers at routes 63 and 20. The Town of Batavia is sending fire police to reroute all southbound tractor-trailers.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m. (by Howard): Traffic is now being allowed unimpeded at the intersections of Route 63 and Batavia-Stafford Townline Road and at Texaco Town. However, work continues to replace the electric pole, so the southbound lane remains closed and fire police are directing traffic through the one open lane in the area of Paul Road.

Driver accused of passing on the right, causing accident

A driver was cited for allegedly illegally passing on the right, leading to a minor injury accident at 5:37 p.m., Friday.

The car passing on the right was struck by another vehicle, sending it into a parked vehicle in the area of 2761 W. Main Street Road, Batavia.

Mark A. Riegel, 18, of 3644 W. Main Street Road, Batavia, was driving a 1997 Honda when he allegedly attempted to pass a pickup truck hauling a trailer on the right.

The truck, driven by Joseph O. Martus, 55, of 2761 W. Main Street Road, Batavia, reportedly slowed to make a right-hand turn when Riegel allegedly made his passing attempt. Martus reportedly turned into Riegel's vehicle.

Riegel reported minor injuries, but was not transported to the hospital.
