Main and Bank blocked by an accident

An accident at Main and Bank streets in Batavia is reportedly blocking traffic.

There are no injuries reported.

Meanwhile, Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding to an accident on the Thruway in the eastbound lane at mile marker 390 (near the Batavia off-ramp). There are reportedly minor injuries in that accident.

Car crash with minor injuries at TL and Maple roads, Alabama

A two-car accident with minor injuries is reported at Town Line and Maple roads. Town of Alabama Fire Department and Mercy EMS responding. One person is complaining of a leg injury and requests an evaluation.

UPDATE 4:17 p.m.: An ambulance from Oakfield is also requested to the scene. The accident is blocking the roadway.

UPDATE 4:32 p.m.: A 17-year-old girl is being transported to UMMC complaining of rib pain. There was air-bag deployment in her vehicle and the steering wheel broke. Another patient is also being transported there.

Car crash at Lewiston Road and Veterans Memorial Drive

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at the intersection of Lewiston Road and Veterans Memorial Drive. One driver is said to have lost consciousness but is now alert.

Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding. A responder at the scene says the vehicles are blocking traffic. Two flatbed tow trucks are called.

UPDATE 3:18 p.m.: A second ambulance is called and there are three patients.

UPDATE 3:22 p.m.: Mercy Flight is called to respond. A second Town of Batavia fire crew is called to set up a landing zone in a field behind BJ's Wholesale Club.

UPDATE 3:36: Mercy Flight has landed in the field. A victim who was trapped inside a vehicle has been extricated.

UPDATE 3:40 p.m.: A 61-year-old woman is being transported to UMMC.

UPDATE 3:43 p.m.: A second patient is being transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: The third patient is on board Mercy Flight, which is headed to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 3:58 p.m.: All Town of Batavia fire units are back in service.

DWI alleged in four-car pileup on Route 77, Pembroke

An alleged drunken driver reportedly started a four-car accident at 2:04 p.m., Saturday, on Route 77 near Route 5 in Pembroke after she rear-ended a car in front of her.

The driver's car then continued forward -- after the first car it hit was pushed out of the way -- and struck a third car in the rear, which hit the car in front of it.

Charged with DWI was Heidi J. Berkes, 27, of North Madison Street, Rome.

Berkes was driving a 2005 Ford SUV when she came upon two cars stopped at the intersection of Route 77 and Route 5 and third car immediately in front of her slowing.

She reportedly struck a car driven by Justin C. Mahar, 19, of Rebecca Street, North Syracuse. Mahar's car was pushed off the road and then Berkes' SUV struck a car driven by Matthew F. Endres, 19, of Carrie Marie Lane, Hllton, which then struck a car driven by Michele Lillie, 39, of Buffalo Road, Erie.

Injured in the accident were Cory Delahunt, 26, a passenger in Berkes' SUV, Endres and Lillie. 

Berkes and Mahar were not injured, and the seven other passengers in the four vehicles were not injured.

Mahar was cited for alleged unlicensed operation.

The accident was investigated by Sgt. Greg Walker.

Vehicle strikes bicyclist downtown

A vehicle has struck a bicyclist at the intersection of Main and Jackson streets in Downtown Batavia. Mercy EMS is called to respond in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 2:47 p.m.: The bicyclist is able to walk. Fire department response is cancelled, although they had arrived on scene.

UPDATE 2:58 p.m.: Mercy medics are back in service. Patient refused treatment.

Field car in race rolls over, driver injured in Alexander

A field car involved in a field car race has rolled over in an accident and there are injuries reported. The site is 2757 Route 20 in Alexander, behind Breton Construction, Inc.

Alexander Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. An ambulance from Darien is called in as mutual aid to Alexander to stand by at the high school football game so Alexander can handle this call.

Mercy Flight out of Buffalo is on in-air standby.

UPDATE 3:09 p.m.: Mercy Flight is asked to land in the field adjacent to the accident.

UPDATE 3:21 p.m.: The patient is a 40-year-old man who suffered loss of consciousness and has upper back pain, upper thoracic tenderness and "crackling in the lungs."

UPDATE 3:38 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne and headed to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Multiple car smash up on Route 77, Corfu

A multiple vehicle accident with multiple injuries is reported at 9049 Route 77. Corfu Fire Department and Mercy medics are en route.

UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: There are four vehicles involved. Darien Fire Department is also headed to the scene.

UPDATE 2:40 p.m.: Traffic is snarled near the accident scene. Traffic police are needed and they are seeking an available unit. A medic from Darien has transported one patient to UMMC.

UPDATE 2:59 p.m.: All Corfu units are back in service. A Sheriff's deputy is handling traffic detail.

UPDATE 3:13 p.m.: Darien units are about to clear the scene and when they do they plan to go to Alexander High School to stand by at the football game while Alexander Fire Department handles a race car accident.

Accident reported on Brookville Road, Alexander

An Alexander fire chief was the first to call in a personal injury accident in the area of 10543 Brookville Road, Alexander.

Alexander Fire Department and ambulance dispatched.

UPDATE 1:13 p.m.: Alexander ambulance is transporting a patient to Corfu to meet up with a Mercy EMS ambulance for transport to Buffalo.

Woman falls from moving truck at Darien Lake State Park

A 23-year-old woman was injured at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, when she was ejected from the back of the pickup truck she was riding in at Darien Lake State Park.

Deputy Chris Parker, who investigated the accident, said in his report that the driver, Jarrett P. Hayes, 22, of Doyle Road, Baldwinsville, was trying to take a curve at an unreasonable speed.

Hayes was cited for alleged unreasonable speed and reckless driving.

Injured was Ann M. Dale, who was transported by UMMC by private vehicle.

Six other people were in the truck. Nobody else was injured.

Driver says he blacked out before striking trees on Transit Road

A driver said he blacked out before his car struck a tree at the intersection of Cockram Road and Transit Road, Town of Elba, at 6:04 p.m., Saturday.

The driver, Eric J. Harter, 36, of South Byron, was transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello wrote in his report that alcohol may be a factor in the accident and charges are pending.

Harter was westbound on Cockram when his truck proceeded through the intersection at Transit Road. His truck struck a stand of trees.

Byron and South Byron responded to the scene and extricated Harter from his truck. Elba fire police handled traffic control.

Two minor injuries reported in accident Friday on Lewiston Road

A woman said she suffered a diabetic issue, causing her to rear end the car of a Batavia resident who had stopped for a red light on Lewiston Road at 8:03 p.m., Friday.Two

Two people suffered minor injuries in the accident and needed to be transported to UMMC for treatment, according to the Sheriff's Office report.

Cited for allegedly following too closely was Mary A. Acomb, 31, of Dewey Ave., Batavia.

Acomb's 2008 Chevy sedan struck a 2007 Toyota sedan driven by Frank J. D'Angelo, 53, of South Main Road, Batavia.

D'Angelo was stopped at the intersection of Lewiston and Park roads when his Toyota was struck. He was not injured, nor was Acomb.

Reportedly injured where Mona L. Adams, 33, and Diana L. Sheehan, 30.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Brad Mazur.

Car strikes a tree in Byron

A car has struck a tree near the junction of Cochram and Transit roads in Byron. Byron and South Byron fire departments and Mercy medics are responding.

Law enforcement is also en route. The driver is alert but combative.

UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: The accident is actually in Elba's fire district. Responders request Elba's fire police to the scene.

UPDATE 6:16: Extrication is required.

UPDATE 6:19 p.m.: Mercy Flight is called and a landing zone is being set up.

UPDATE 6:20 p.m.: The landing zone is going to be on Cochram Road, just south of Transit.

UPDATE 6:24 p.m.: Mercy Flight on the ground.

UPDATE 6:58 p.m.: Patient being transported to Strong. Byron and South Byron and Elba fire police are about to clear the scene.

Two-car accident with minor injuries at Vets Drive and Lewiston

A two-car accident, blocking traffic, is reported at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Lewiston Road. There are minor injuries. Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 8:14 p.m.: There are three patients, one of whom has chest pain and the other two are diabetic.

UPDATE 8:16 p.m.: The actual location is Lewiston and Park roads.

UPDATE 8:28 p.m.: So far, two patients are being transported to UMMC in separate ambulances, one for chest pain, the other for low blood sugar. The Town of Batavia fire assignment is back in service.

UPDATE 8:33 p.m.: The last patient is transported to UMMC.

Street sweeper reports possibly hitting a car at Ellicott and Liberty

A city Department of Public Works employee operating a street sweeper thinks he may have hit a car at Ellicott and Liberty streets. But he's not sure.

The worker told a police officer over the radio that "I was swinging out and he made a turn right in front of me. I think I hit him, but I'm not sure. He drove off."

A city police officer is responding to investigate.

ATV accident with spinal injuries reported in Elba

An all-terrain vehicle accident with a female with spinal injuries is reported in Elba. The subject was able to be brought up to the railroad bed "so you should have access to the patient." Mercy Flight is on in-air standby. The accident is reportedly near the old railroad bed just west of Transit Road, north of Route 262.

Mercy Flight was on in-air standby and then cancelled.

Two-car accident with injuries at Galloway Road and Route 63

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at Galloway Road and Route 63. Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 12:56 p.m.: A second patrol car for traffic control is needed and two flatbed tow trucks. The accident is blocking the roadway. One person is complaining of arm pain.

UPDATE 12:58 p.m.: A second ambulance is called for and some absorbent to soak up a fluid spill.

UPDATE 1:08 p.m.: A woman with no visible injuries is being transporting to UMMC to be checked out.

UPDATE 1:31 p.m.: A man is being transported to UMMC now. He is alert and oriented and the medic says he may have briefly lost consciousness after the head-on collision in which there was airbag deployment.

UPDATE 1:34 p.m.: Town of Batavia fire crews are back in service.

Rider reportedly crashes allegedly stolen bike on West Main, Batavia

A person on a bike reportedly ran into a pole on West Main Street near Woodrow Road and sustained an injury.

The description of the bike reportedly matches one stolen earlier from a trailer park on West Main Street.

City fire is on scene with Mercy EMS and police are responding.

Driver who says fog prevented him from seeing stop sign charged with DWI

The driver says it was Saturday morning's fog that caused him to miss a stop sign on Freeman Road, South Byron, but that didn't stop a deputy from charging him with DWI.

Charged was Brian R. Dilcher, 25, of Clinton Street Road, Batavia, who was also cited for alleged failure to stop for a stop sign.

Dilcher was eastbound on Freeman Road at 5 a.m. in a 1994 GMC pickup when he allegedly went through the sign at Coward Road, Byron.

His truck struck a Verizon utility box and then a tree.

Dilcher suffered minor injuries, but did not require ambulance transport.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Eric Seppala.

Motorcyclist suffers minor injuries after striking deer in Oakfield

A man from Oakfield suffered minor injuries after his motorcycle struck a deer on Hutton Road, Oakfield, at 10:30 p.m., Thursday.

Following the accident, David Hendershott, 21, of Orchard Park Road, Oakfield, was transported by private vehicle to UMMC.

Hendershott was north on Hutton Road, near Duck Pond Road, on a 2008 KMCU when his bike struck the deer. Hendershott was thrown from the bike and the motorcycle came to rest on the east shoulder of the roadway.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Graff.
