A Corfu resident allegedly was following another vehicle too closely at 6:03 p.m., Tuesday, when his car rear-ended another vehicle that had slowed because a truck had stopped to turn.

The vehicles were both westbound on Route 33 near Boyce Road, Pembroke.

Three people were treated at UMMC for injuries sustained in the two-car accident.

Raymond E. Judd, 83, of Phelps Road, Corfu, was allegedly following to closely a car driven by Diane M. Weaton, of Blood Road, Cowsville.

Also injured in the crash was Judd's passenger, Rosa Laurentina, 62.

The accident was investigated by Sgt. Greg Walker.

UPDATE 3:59 p.m.: This information is courtesy of WBTA's Geoff Redick. The motorist was 26-year-old Joshua Arnold, who sustained minor injuries after he fell asleep at the wheel of his 2000 Isuzu, according to State Police.

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at 5631 Clinton St. Road (Route 33) in Stafford. One person is said to be unconscious. The car is well off the road, about 40 feet. Stafford Fire Department and Mercy EMS are en route.

A utility pole was snapped in half and there are live wires in the roadway. National Grid has been notified.

Assistance is requested from South Byron Fire Department. Mercy Flight is available if needed.

UPDATE 12:53 p.m.: The fire chief asks that fire police shut down Route 33 at Prole Road and at Caswell Road and detour traffic.

UPDATE 1:22 p.m.: This accident involved only one vehicle. It is an SUV-type vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. Witnesses said the driver just drifted off the road. State Police said they do not know how the accident happened but they are investigating. The victim is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy EMS. The wires in the roadway were determined to be telephone wires and Verizon has been notified.

State Police investigators are still uncertain about what caused a car heading westbound on North Byron Road this afternoon to go off the south shoulder and strike a tree on the driver's side.

Impact was right at the driver's seat and the car wrapped around the tree nearly to the point of the passenger's seat.

The driver, Linda Brown, 67, of Elba, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Robert Yungfleisch.

The accident occurred about a half mile east of Log City Road, Elba.

Trooper John Szymkowiak was first on the scene and said he checked Brown's vitals and did not detect a pulse. He requested Mercy Flight be dispatched to the scene.

An Elba medic arrived minutes later and the medic was also unable to detect a pulse and other vital signs were negative. Mercy Flight was canceled at that point.

The initial call to 9-1-1 was at about 3:50 p.m. by another westbound driver who came over the top of a hill, just east of the accident location, and saw the car strike the tree. 

The witness did not see enough prior to impact to help provide information on what caused Brown's car to go off the road.

Szymkowiak said it appeared Brown started to go off the road about 100 feet prior to impact with the tree and there were some signs of braking on the road surface.

"The cause is still under investigation," Szymkowiak said. "It could have been a medical issue. It could have been a deer in the roadway. We are looking at several things right now."

An autopsy will be completed to try and determine if the cause was medical.

A car has reportedly hit a tree on North Byron Road near Log City Road, Elba, and a person is reportedly trapped in the car and possibly unconscious.

A vehicle has hit a guard rail in the area of mile marker 396 in the westbound lane of the Thruway.

Unknown injuries.

The location is near Slusser Road.

An accident, believed to be with three people suffering minor injuries, has been reported on Route 98 near Stroh Road in Alexander.

A two-car accident has been reported on West Main Street Road in the area of WNY Fireplace Outlet.

A 55-year-old woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a motor vehicle accident Sept. 30 has died.

Patty Ireland, of Bergen, succumbed to her injuries last night, WBTA reported this morning.

The mother of three adult children was driving on Route 19 when a truck carrying gravel was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The truck overturned in her path, spilling stone and gravel on the roadway, pushing Ireland's Chevy Impala 150 feet back down the roadway. 

Services have not yet been announced.

Le Roy Fire Department is responding to a two-car accident on East Main in which at least one person reportedly lost consciousness.

UPDATE 7:42 a.m.: An ALS (advanced life support) and BLS (basic life support) ambulance requested to the scene. Traffic control requested. Chief: "We're going to have to pop a door."

A driver was hospitalized Sunday morning after a one-car crash on the Lewiston Road bridge over the Thruway in Batavia.

The driver, Staci L. Casper, 24, of 7599 Lewiston Road, Oakfield, was taken by ambulance to UMMC with minor injuries.

A toddler in the car, Dominic R. Davies, was not injured.

Casper was southbound on Lewiston Road at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, when for an unknown reason she lost control of her 1995 Honda. Her car struck the east side guard rail.

No citations were issued.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Brian Thompson.

Icy conditions are being blamed for a two-car accident at 7 a.m., Friday, that sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident occurred on the Route 98 bridge over the Thruway.

Matthew A. Button, 28, of 7703 Lewiston Road, Batavia, was northbound on Route 98 when his 2007 Toyota spun out of control, sliding into the southbound lane and striking a 2005 Jeep driven by William P. Shelhorse, 67, of 23 West Ave., Elba.

Button's car then slide over to the west side guard rail.

Shelhorse was taken by a Mercy EMS ambulance to UMMC.

Button was cited for alleged failure to slow for hazardous conditions.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Brian Thompson.

An ATV rider is reportedly injured and on the ground at mile marker 376.1 on the westbound Thruway. The rider is conscious but injuries, if any, are not yet known. Le Roy Fire and Ambulance Service are responding. The caller told dispatch that there were two ATVs traveling and they somehow collided. The other driver "took off" -- possibly to get help. Mercy medics are on scene.

UPDATE 4:44 p.m.: Mercy Flight is on an in-air standby.

UPDATE 4:46 p.m.: Mercy Flight is cancelled.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m.: Le Roy Ambulance left a few minutes ago, headed to Strong Memorial Hospital with one patient. All other units back in service.

The NYS DOT has been dispatched to the Route 98 bridge over the Thruway after an apparently minor injury accident.

A deputy on scene reported black ice conditions after responding to the accident.

A flatbed tow truck has been requested to the scene to deal with the disabled vehicle.

Mercy EMS is on scene tending to at least one injured person.

Town of Batavia Fire Department also responded.

UPDATE 7:21 a.m.: A trooper informs dispatch that DOT should also be notified that the Route 63 over the Thruway is also "pretty slick."

UPDATE 7:35 a.m.: A patient was transported to UMMC with only minor complaints of pain. Town of Batavia fire is back in service.

A pedestrian has reportedly been struck by a car at the intersection of Prospect and Richmond avenues in the City of Batavia. Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.

A 7-year-old child is being transported to UMMC for evaluation as a precaution. She was riding her bicycle, collided with the car, and she fell to the ground but there was no loss of consiousness and no complaint of pain, according to the medic.

Batavia firefighters are back in service.

A two-car accident is reported at East Main Street and Masse Place in the City of Batavia. It is blocking traffic. Unknown injuries. City firefighters are responding.

UPDATE 1:02 p.m.: City fire back in service.

The driver of a sedan that smashed into a tree on Route 262 in Elba shortly after 5:30 a.m. may face a DWI charge.

Corey Hemmer, 25, of Elba, was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC.

Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster said a blood sample was taken from Hemmer and additional charges may be pending.

Hemmer is in intensive care.

Also injured where Megan Ann Gregg, 18. She is listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital. Strong's policy is to list anybody in intensive care as "guarded."

The third victim in the crash is Aaron Pahuta, 19. He underwent emergency surgery at ECMC this morning.

Hemmer was reportedly driving westbound on Route 262 just east of Route 98 when his Pontiac drifted off the north side of the roadway. The car struck a tree head on.

Sgt. Brian Frieday said at the scene that a passerby found the wreckage some time after the accident. Investigators were unsure at that time how much earlier the accident had occurred.

All three occupants had to be extricated and transported to hospitals by Mercy Flight.

The accident is under investigation by the Crash Management Team of the Sheriff's Office.

Elba Fire Department and Mercy EMS responded to the scene and Town of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to provide additional extrication tools and manpower.
