Accident with injuries reported on Route 77 at Thruway overpass

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on Route 77 on the Thruway overpass, Pembroke.

Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments dispatched. Mercy EMS dispatched.

UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: Darien's ambulance, second ambulance in, requested.

Driver of car involved in a pair of collisions arrested

A 23-year-old Elba man was taken into custody this afternoon following a pair of traffic collisions and a bit of a police pursuit from Bank Street to Main Street in front of Tim Horton's.

Joseph J. Zambito has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, according to Sgt. Dan Coffey, Batavia PD.

Sometime around 2:30 p.m. police received a report of a vehicle striking a car on Bank Street just within city limits. The vehicle was spotted on Bank Street, Coffey said, and officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the car continued, turning right onto Main Street.

The vehicle struck another car west of Jefferson Avenue, Coffey said, and then patrol vehicles were able to box in the silver sedan and stop it in front of Tim Horton's.

Following a short investigation, the driver was taken into custody.

Zambito is also being charged with several traffic violations, Coffey said.

Several car accidents reported on Lewiston Road on bridge over the Thruway

Law enforcement is on scene at the Lewiston Road overpass over the Thruway for "numerous motor-vehicle accidents."

Town of Batavia Fire Police requested to the scene for traffic control.

No injuries reported.

UPDATE 5:55 p.m.: Southbound traffic is completely blocked.

UPDATE 6:07 p.m.: Town of Batavia Fire Police now requested to the Route 98 overpass to assist law enforcement.

One-vehicle rollover, minor injuries, on Transit Road, Pavilion

A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported at 9867 Transit Road. It's at the intersection with East Bethany-Le Roy Road. Minor injuries. Pavilion Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 9:16 p.m.: Law enforcement is on scene.

UPDATE 9:34 a.m.: A patient is being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 9:43 a.m.: The Pavilion assignment is back in service.

Big rig strikes pole, yanks down wires and lands in front yard on Main Road, Pembroke

A tractor-trailer struck a pole, tore down wires and landed on its side in the front yard at 258 Main Road, Pembroke. Unknown injuries. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy medics, non-emergency. Eastbound traffic will be shut down at Crittenden Road.

UPDATE 6:40 a.m.: National Grid has dispatched a repair crew, which has an ETA of about 30 minutes. Law enforcement is at the scene, too.

UPDATE 6:49 a.m.: An engine from Akron Fire Department is called in to provide mutual aid.

Accident with injuries reported on the Thruway along with icy conditions

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on the Thruway at mile marker 397.0 in the eastbound lane.

Dispatchers warn responders of extremely icy conditions in the area.

East Pembroke fire and Mercy EMS dispatched.

The location is about a half mile west of the Slusser Road overpass.

UPDATE 7:43 a.m.: No injuries.

UPDATE 7:53 a.m.: A second ambulance requested after a vehicle may have struck the fire truck -- or close to it, hitting a guard rail instead. Darien fire's ambulance requested to the scene.

UPDATE 7:57 a.m.: "They hit the guard rail pretty good," reports a chief, but everybody is out of the car and injuries, if any, appear minor. The chief also reports "this is not good," cars are slowing down, but still sliding around.  

UPDATE 8:02 a.m.: Pembroke and Indian Falls requested to assemble in quarters.

UPDATE 8:06 a.m.: The East Pembroke chief informs the Pembroke chief that their crews are needed for traffic control in the eastbound lane. Another chief informs Darien's ambulance that it can go back in service. Mercy EMS can handle the signoffs on the second accident.

UPDATE 8:12 a.m.: A Pembroke chief reports icy conditions, at least two cars into guard rails. Dispatch says the Thruway Authority has a salt truck in route.

UPDATE 8:15 a.m.: There's a non-injury accident on the Route 98 overpass. A dispatcher notes, "Apparently the bridges in this county are iced over. It's Nov. 2 and the bridges are iced over."

UPDATE 8:18 a.m.: An East Pembroke chief is requesting crews completely shutdown the eastband lanes.

UPDATE 8:29 a.m.: A second accident in East Pembroke's district, on Route 5 near Wortendyke Road. The East Pembroke chief requests a dispatch for Town of Batavia while he tries to free up a unit to head that way. The dispatcher warns Town of Batavia that the road is icy. There are very minor injuries in the accident.

Truck and car accident reported on the Thruway near Bank Street Road, Batavia

A car and semi-truck have collided on the Thruway in the westbound lane near mile marker 386.6

That's about two-tenths of a mile east of the Bank Street Road overpass.

There are only minor injuries.

Town of Batavia fire is responding along with Mercy EMS.

A chief on scene reports, "we've got one against the inside guard rail and one against the outside guard rail."

The left lane is blocked.

UPDATE 8:33 a.m.: A chief reports a correction on vehicles. One passenger vehicle and one flatbed truck, unloaded.

Car crash on Lake Street Road, Le Roy

A motor-vehicle accident is reported at 8572 Lake Street Road. A person may have a broken foot, according to dispatch. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding.

UPDATE 4:23 a.m.: Mercy medics are asked to respond, mutual aid, to the accident. The location is between Randall and Red Mill roads.

UPDATE 4:44 a.m.: Le Roy ambulance is transporting one patient to Strong Memorial Hospital. Mercy medics #2 are taking a patient to Warsaw Community Hospital. A fire hydrant was damaged as a result of the accident and Monroe County Water Authority is being notified.

Car wreck snarls traffic at Ellicott and Jackson

A two-car accident is blocking westbound traffic on Ellicott Street at Jackson. Injuries are believed to be minor. There is one person possibly entrapped. City fire and Mercy medics are scene.

A motor-vehicle accident is reported on the eastbound Thruway at mile marker 381.3. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding. Injuries are unknown as there are conflicting reports.

Car crash with injuries on Colby Road in Darien

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at 10153 Colby Road in Darien. Darien fire is responding along with Mercy medics. The location is between Sumner and Sharrick roads. It is blocking traffic. Law enforcement is also en route.

Car hits tree on Main Road, Pembroke

Injuries are reported after a car hit a tree in the area of 954 Main Road, Pembroke.

Only one vehicle is involved in the accident.

Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments dispatched, with one engine requested from Corfu.

Mercy EMS dispatched.

SUV and tractor-trailer collide at Oak and Richmond

A two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV occurred at Oak Street and Richmond Avenue about 10:30 this morning.

The tractor-trailer was traveling north on Oak Street and the SUV was facing south at the intersection and turning left onto Richmond Avenue when it was struck by the tractor-trailer. The SUV sustained damage on the passenger side.

According to the Batavia Police Department, no one was injured and the driver of  the SUV is being issued a ticket for failure to yield.

UPDATE 5 p.m., Friday: Further investigation by Batavia PD uncovered a different version of events. The SUV was eastbound on Richmond.  He was not issued a citation.

"We're unable, based on the information available at this time, to determine who was at fault," said Officer Kevin Defelice.

Car crash, minor injuries, at Slusser and Stegman roads

A one-car accident, believed to be with minor injuries, is reported at Slusser and Stegman roads. East Pembroke fire and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: The vehicle hit a guard rail. The location is actually Stegman Road, says dispatch.

Driver reportedly flees scene after striking pole on Bloomingdale Road

A car has hit a pole on Bloomingdale Road near Tesnow Road, Alabama.

The driver has reportedly fled.

Wires are down, either on the ground or very low hanging. The pole is snapped.

No injuries are reported.

Law enforcement is in route.

Alabama fire is dispatched.

UPDATE 8:51 p.m.: Indian Falls Fire Police are asked to shut down traffic Bloomingdale Road Tesnow Road.
