Hawley given high score by Conservative Party

By Howard B. Owens

Press release:

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) was recognized earlier this month for an exemplary commitment to the policies endorsed by the New York State Conservative Party.

The party’s executive committee determined the score based on each state legislator’s voting record across a diverse sample of legislation from this year’s session. Hawley had the highest score with a rating of 92 out of 100.

“I am honored to be presented with this rating by the Conservative Party of New York State,” Hawley said. “This rating exemplifies the discipline and commitment to the policies that we must support if we intend to develop a stronger and healthier economy for job seekers and job creators alike.

"Policies such as keeping taxes low so more money stays in the pockets of our families and cutting red tape so businesses can hire, expand, and operate profitably are all measures I voted for and I believe will inevitably bring economic growth to our state.”

Yeah...and yet when Gov. Cuomo was here to present the city with $10 million, when it was time to take the photo with the huge check, Hawley literally ran to the stage so he would have a prime position for the photo.
So...he’s all for “conservative” values (whatever they are) but when the State gives away money those values seem to go out the window.

Dave, consider that 10 million our State income taxes coming back to us. As for the "State gives away money", where do think they got that money?

John, I'm not arguing that. I fully appreciate that this $10 million is our money coming back to us.
What I'm saying is how disingenuous Hawley is being by literally running to the stage to be in the photo op, when as a "fiscal conservative" he is opposed to "government handouts."

He had nothing to do with Batavia getting this award, yet he desperately wants credit for it.

Dave,
Steve Hawley did not run up to the stage. He did not run up to the stage "literally or figuratively. Steve Hawley is our Assemblyman, and regardless if you like the Governor, and I don't. It is a matter of respect and protocol for Steve to be there to represent his constituents. Respect the Office, if not the man. You agreed in Post-4, and I quote you, "I fully appreciate that this $10 million is our money coming back to us". If is our money, then it is not an award! You can't award someone their own money. Give of an example, a link to a news article where Steve Hawley literally said, "I take full credit for our tax money coming back to us?

Rich Richmond, you really can not be serious! Respect the Office and not the Man? That is something that sounds great if only the folks on your side practiced what they preached. It just amazes me how The so called "Conservatives" all stuck together to hinder virtually all of Obama's agenda when he was in the White House. This was called Patriotism.

Then when Trump gets in office any effort by the Democrats to unit against policies that they do not like is called Obstructionism.

It seems to me that you can not have it both ways.

Rich...I WATCHED the ceremony on Facebook live.
I WATCHED Hawley RUN to the stage to get a good spot for the photo. You can say whatever you want. I know what I saw

As regards your “award” comment, you clearly have zero idea what you’re talking about. It was a contest among towns in the Finger Lakes region. A group of City leaders decided to submit an application and they were judged the winner. Had they not done that, the city would not have been awarded the $10 million. Of course it came from NYS tax dollars but the fact remains that Batavia got it and other cities didn’t. Assemblyman Hawley had ZERO to do with it, but he insisted on being part of the celebration.

I've never known a state elected official not to be at any appearance of the governor in his or her district. It's protocol. And it's the smart thing to do to represent your district.

It's a sad time in this country when partisan politics trumps civility.

Scott, long time no hear and I hope you are well. Yes, I am serious, and particularly on a local level with people, I've known for years. By my side, you are referring to Republicans, and yes I'm involved in local politics. When I attend the City Council Meeting, I'm on a first name basis wilh all the Councilpersons, Republicans, Democrats, and Conservatives. The local Officials-Politicians in small communities such as ours know each and work for the benefit of the community, not the national party. We are not talking about Washington beltway politicians. We are talking about Steve Hawley. I've known Steve for over 44 years, I hunted in the fields surrounding his Dads farm.

Dave, I realize you don't like Steve Hawley, and I never claimed Steve had anything to do with the money, and neither did he. I'm well aware how the money got here. I'm glad the money is here because it is our money. I will remind you, you are the one who said award first. I will say it again. Regardless if you like him or not, he is our Assemblyman. He has a business in the City and he pays taxes. Steve is part of the Community and civility and protocol aside, has every right to be there. It is your perception and opinion, and not fact that he is desperate and taking credit.

There is nothing new here. Both our current Governor and US Senator Chuck Schumer are very well known for showing up for almost anything to get on TV.

That's what politicans do and I understand that. To single out Hawley for being there when the largest population center in his district gets a visit from the Governor who was returning $10 million of our tax money to the area was very appropriate.
