Reptiles visit Richmond Library on Friday afternoon

Like reptiles? Come get a look at a variety of them on Friday at the Richmond Memorial Library, at 19 Ross St. in Batavia!

This opportunity to see these creatures is being offered as part of the "Nickel City Reptiles" -- part of the library's 2010 Summer Reading Program.

Admission is free and does not require pre-registration. The fun starts at 2:30 p.m.

Oatka Festival

LeRoy's Oatka Festival is this weekend -- a fun event for the whole family. It's at Trigon Park in Le Roy and features food, entertainment, games and crafts all along the Oatka Creek.

The festival goes from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will be a parade at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Genesee Country Farmers Market

Come on down to the Batavia Downs parking lot, at 8315 Park Road in Batavia, for the Genesee Country Farmers Market! It will last from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Fresh, locally grown veggies, flowers and baked goods will be for sale. The market takes place every Tuesday and Friday through Oct. 29.

National Night Out is Tuesday in Austin Park

In an effort to keep our community safe from crime and drugs, GCASA and the City of Batavia Police Department will host the sixth annual National Night Out event at Austin Park in Batavia.

The event is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3 with a family friendly movie shown afterward.

National Night Out is a collaborative effort to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

'Summertime Cooking Creativity' at Le Roy's Woodward Library

The Woodward Memorial Library, at 7 Wolcott St. in Le Roy, will be treating adult patrons to "Summertime Cooking Creativity" from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21.

Those who attend will see firsthand how simple and fun cooking can be!

Susan Presher, food services director for the Caledonia-Mumford Central School District, will provide summer cooking tips and recipes.

Ghost Riders' Flat Bed Tour starts at 6

The Ghost Riders Flat Bed tour begins tonight at 6.

The gang will fuel up at O'lacy's at 6 and then entertain folks at the Vets Hospital, home and assisted living facility, state home and all community nursing homes and low-income housing areas 'til 9 o'clock.

At each stop, they all gather outside for a few minutes of music and laughs and maybe a good story.

Fishing Derby - Oakfield Rod & Gun Club

Please join Oakfield Cub Scouts Pack 19 on Saturday, July 17th for our first Cub Scout Sponsored  fishing derby at the Oakfield Rod and Gun Club (@ Maltby Rd. and North Pearl St. Oakfield) from 10AM - 1PM. All kids ages 5-17 welcome. $6 entry fee includes hot dog, chips and drink. There will be food  available for those not participating in the derby. Kids should bring their own bait. No lures. Prizes will be awarded.

Summer in the City set for Saturday, Aug. 21

Downtown Batavia's 6th annual “Summer in the City” festival will be held from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21.

There will be more than food and craft vendors, a great lineup of entertainment by Terry Buchwald “Elvis," Ghost Riders, Nik & Nice Guys, a KidsZone, plus a Super Car Cruise with more than 400 cars and motorcycles.

This year, there are some exciting new changes.

Introduction to Facebook at Batavia's Richmond Library

Want to learn how to get "Facehooked?" Then come on over to the Richmond Memorial Library, at 19 Ross St. in Batavia, for an hour-long session on how to use the popular website, Facebook!

On Tuesday, July 13, Lisa Gricius will show you how to set up an account, how to use and manage it, and games to play (or not). The program will begin at 7 p.m. and is open to all adults in the Batavia area. Registration is not required.

Genesee ARC hosts 'Ginormous Garage Sale'

Genesee ARC will be holding a "Ginormous Garage Sale" at its Community Center site, at 38 Woodrow Road in Batavia. This will take place from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31.

Those who wish to help can donate items to the sale or purchase an outdoor 9' by 18' space for their own sales.

Keuka College will host another ASAP information session at GCC

The 4th annual "Cruise at the College" is set for 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18 at Genesee Community College, at 1 College Road in Batavia.

Cars, trucks and motorcycles from all over the region will be featured along with food, vendors, entertainment and prizes.

Congressman's staff member to meet with Batavia residents

On Wednesday, July 14, a member of Congressman Chris Lee’s staff will be available for one-on-one meetings with Genesee County residents from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Old Court House in Batavia. It's at 7 Main St. downtown.
 
 “These office hours provide Genesee County residents with a unique opportunity to meet with a member of my staff one-on-one, whether it be to troubleshoot interactions with federal agencies or discuss the issues of the day,” Congressman Lee said in a news release.
