YMCA's Wheels & Heels at Stan's to benefit kids affected by domestic violence

YWCA's 2014 Wheels & Heels event includes something for everyone, from a cool vehicle show and motorcycle ride to a bicycle rally, basket auction, fashion show, food fest and children's games. It's set for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Stan's Harley-Davidson, 4425 W. Saile Drive, Batavia.

The party is being thrown to benefit YWCA of Genesee County, specifically to fund new programs for children affected by domestic violence.

15th annual Harley Raffle, expanded beer tent, and new band at Town of Batavia Fire Hall

A new band, a bigger beer tent and all the fun you've come to expect are on tap at the Town of Batavia Fire Hall, 8382 Lewiston Road, this Saturday.

It's time again for the annual Harley Raffle. It's the 15th annual raffle.

Audibull will rock the expanded beer tent this year. Festivities start at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Deadline is Aug. 25 to register for fall course on Principles of Gardening at Cornell extension

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County will be offering “Principles of Gardening” training on Wednesday evenings, starting Sept. 10 and running through Nov. 19, from 6 to 9 pm. Classes will be held at the CCE office at 420 E. Main St., Batavia.

Participants will enjoy training in horticulture topics, including botany, plant pathology, entomology, soils & fertilizers, lawn care, vegetable gardening, weed identification, woody ornamentals, fruit, perennials and annuals. Each class will focus on a different topic throughout training.

2nd annual Lite the Knight in Le Roy, 5K proceeds benefit the Bordonaro family

The 2nd annual Lite the Knight will be held on Saturday Aug. 16 at Hartwood Park. It begins at 5 p.m.

This year's recipient is the Bordonaro family. Frank was a 19-year veteran of the Genesee County Sherriff’s Dept, a devoted husband and father, and a true pillar of the LeRoy community who died in July. He will be sorely missed. At only 44 years of age, he leaves behind his wife, Robyn, and two sons Bryce, 14, and Chase, 12.

Lite the Knight 5K & Family Fun Night in Le Roy to fund memorial scholarship for Bordonaro family

Lite the Knight 5K & Family Fun Night
Saturday Aug. 16 starting at  5 p.m.

Join Le Roy and our surrounding communities as we come together to raise funds for a memorial scholarship! 2014 Recipients: The Bordonaro Family.

In addition to the 5K run/walk on an illuminated course, this year's event also features: a 3-on-3 basketball tournament; wellness fair; many free childrens' activities; a performance by Le Roy Marching Knights; a chicken barbeque by the Smokin' Eagle BBQ and Brew; and free live music by Flipside.

Southern Gospel group The Needhams perform at Batavia Assembly of God

The Needhams, a well-known Christian music group from this area, will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Batavia Assembly of God.

The Southern Gospel group started in Le Roy and is now based in Nashville.

The whole family will enjoy this special concert! A free will offering is welcome for WNY Gospel Concerts.

The church is located at at 24 N. Spruce St. in Batavia.

OACS Class of '84 reunion July 26 at Caryville Inn, RSVP ASAP

The Oakfield-Alabama Central School class of 1984 is planning its 30-year class reunion to be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 26.

Alumni and thier guests are invited to attend a casual get-together at the Caryville Inn on Main Street in Oakfield. Cost per person is $15. There will be a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres served throughout the evening.

10th annual Taste of Stafford in Ilette Park

The Stafford Historical Society invites the public to the 10th annual Taste of Stafford event on Thursday, July 10 in Ilette Park, located at the corner of Route 5 and Route 237 in Stafford. The hours are from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Taste of Stafford allows the community an opportunity to meet with friends, family and neighbors while enjoying delicious local food, to listen to the music and watch the entertainment; also to try their luck with our 50/50 and basket auction.

The Batavia Business Improvement District (BID) announced that its Summer 2014 lineup for the free “Friday Night in the Square” Jackson Square Concerts is June 27th – Aug. 29th. For more than 14 years, the BID has provided free concerts in the Downtown for the Western New York community.

This year Greg Docencko and members of Genesee Symphony Orchestra opening for three of the scheduled concerts in conjunction with the featured groups. This is most exciting and everyone should enjoy this new addition to our series.

Opening ceremonies for Cost of Freedom Tribute at Pembroke Town Park

The Oakfield-Alabama American Legion Post #626 is hosting a series of events this week as part of its Cost of Freedom Tribute at the Pembroke Town Park, located next to Pembroke High School, 1145 Main Road (Route 77) in Corfu. On Thursday, June 12, opening ceremonies will take place.

Terry Abrams speaks at Stafford Historical Society on history of Tonawanda Indian Reservation

At the Stafford Historical Society's meeting on Wednesday June 25 our guest speaker will be Terry C. Abrams, the administrative coordinator of Western New York Association of Historical Agencies (WNYAHA).

He is also vice-president of the Tonawanda Reservation Historial Society and his program will be on the history of the Tonawanda Reservation, including the pre-reservation era, the treaty era, Ely Parker's role in saving the reservation and information about the reservation of today.

Benefit at Elba Firemens' Rec Hall for young burn victim and family

Brian Shuknecht, son of Dave and Peggy Shuknecht, was recently burned in an accident and is in Strong Memorial Hospital with an expected stay of three to four weeks. A spaghetti dinner benefit is planned for him from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at Elba Firemens' Rec Hall, located at 7143 Oak Orchard Road.

With burns covering a large portion of his body, he will be enduring at least five skin-graft surgeries with extensive recorvery time. Plus, the family is still recovering from the effects of Dave being seriously injured at work late last year.

Batavia Concert Band's free performance at Centennial Park

The Batavia Concert Band’s 90th season of music-making will run this year with free public concerts in Batavia’s Centennial Park on July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, as well as the ever-popular July 4th Picnic in the Park sponsored by GO-ART!

The Batavia Concert Band’s repertoire is wide-ranging in origin, period and style: marches, Big Band and swing numbers; popular songs from musicals and movies; rock favorites arranged for band; classical adaptations; fun songs for kids of all ages, and everything in between.

GC Chamber of Commerce hosts 42nd annual Golf Outing

The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce will host its 42 annual Golf Outing on Thursday, July 31, at Terry Hills Golf Course & Banquet Facility, located at 5122 Clinton St. in Batavia.

Cost is $125 per person and includes: Golf cart, lunch and dinner.

The lunch menu includes hot dog or hamburger/cheeseburger.

Dinner includes grilled Italian sausage with peppers and onion, BBQ hamburgers, grilled chicken breats and much more.

Cost is $30 for dinner only. Bring your spouse, coworker, colleagues and friends!

May I pour you a drink?" asked Le Roy's smooth-talking Mayor Greg "Porp" Rogers.

"I'll think I'll have a Harvey Wallbanger," replied the beautiful nonprofit volunteer.

"That was popular in the '70s, I remember it like it was yesterday," old Porp said.

"Make it without alcohol though, I'm designated tonight," she said.

"I virgin Wallbanger?"

"Like I said -- I've gotta drive."
