A two-vehicle accident is reported in Alabama at Ledge and Maple roads. There's possible entrapment in one of the vehicles. Alabama Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 1:29 p.m.: The accident is blocking traffic in the southbound lane of Maple Road, according to a first responder.

UPDATE 1:31 p.m.: There is no entrapment. A second ambulance is called and both can proceed in non-emergency mode. An occupant in each vehicle complains of pain in their lower extremities.

An accident is reported on the westbound Thruway at mile marker 374.8. A female has a head injury. Mercy medics are leaving the scene of the accident on Route 490 and heading to I-90. Le Roy fire is also responding.

UPDATE 12:42 p.m.: Neither Le Roy nor Henrietta, which was also called, could find an accident at that mile marker. Le Roy responders say they're going back to where a Trooper was roadside with a vehicle to see if the injured person is there.

A multiple vehicle accident is reported on westbound Route 490 at mile marker 2.0. A car fire erupted and it was knocked down quickly with a fire extinguisher, but now it's smoking again, and an SUV is engulfed in flames. No one is trapped. One male is complaining of chest pain.

A first responder says "it's a mess out here," with multiple cars off both sides of the roadway. Le Roy and Bergen are both called along with Le Roy ambulance and law enforcement. A Mercy rig is called, too. Two people appear to have minor injuries; at least five people will need to be evaluated altogether.

Now there's another crash on the Maltby Road Bridge reported, and yet another a half mile from that.

UPDATE 12:21 p.m.: There are another five vehicles off the road on the eastbound 490.

UPDATE 12:28 p.m.: First responders say the roadway is slick and icy and it's snowing.

UPDATE 12:39 p.m.: Stafford is called stand by in quarters for Bergen.

UPDATE 1:22 p.m.: Bergen's assignment to the westbound 490 is back in service.

UPDATE 2:01 p.m.: Stafford is released and back in service.

A tractor-trailer vs. car accident is reported in front of the DeWitt Recreation Area on Cedar Street in the City of Batavia. No injuries; driver of vehicle is out, conscious and alert. There was air bag deployment and fluids are leaking. City fire and Mercy medics are responding along with police.

A two-car accident with injuries is reported in Alabama on Route 77 north of Judge Road. It is partially blocking traffic. A female has an ankle injury and another person has abdominal pain.

Mercy medics and Alabama Fire Department are responding. A second ambulance from Medina is called for mutual aid. 

Fire police are asked to divert southbound traffic to the west at Judge Road and northbound traffic to the east at Ham Road for now.

(Responders are advised that a second accident is in the area -- at 7006 Alleghany Road, just south of Judge Road. There is one patient with a minor injury in that accident.)

UPDATE 7:21 a.m.: One of the patients is a sign-off. Two flatbed tows are called.

UPDATE 7:59 a.m. (by Howard): All units back in service. The road is reopened.

A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported at 5743 Clinton Street Road in Stafford. An elderly female driver complains of neck and severe back pain and difficulties moving extremities. There was no air bag deployment.

A first responder says the driver may have had a medical issue. Mercy Flight is called to the scene. Mercy medics and Stafford fire have arrived.

UPDATE 5:02 p.m.: Genesee County Sheriff's deputies are on scene.

UPDATE 5:14 p.m.: Mercy Flight was cancelled. A resident of the road who witnessed the accident, Darrell Wright, said the vehicle left the roadway at the site of the former Oderkirk Farm property at a high rate of speed. It went through the field where many sunflowers used to grow, became airborne a couple of times, went through a grassy area, and landed on its wheels between two trees in front of a house (but did not strike the trees). The patient has just been extricated and is being stabilized for ground transport to a hospital. A flatbed tow truck is called to respond.

UPDATE 5:25 p.m.: First responders say they believe the accident stemmed from a medical issue. They confirmed there indeed was no air bag deployment. The patient will be taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

A motorcyclist is reportedly down in the roadway and not alert at the intersection of Route 77 and Sumner Road, Darien.

UPDATE 5:51 p.m.: Mercy Flight on ground standby. The patient is talking but medics still evaluating.

UPDATE 5:56 p.m.: Mercy Flight dispatched. The landing zone will be at the Darien Fire Hall. The patient is incoherent. 

UPDATE 6:07 p.m.: A medic is released from the scene to respond to a nearby medical call.

UPDATE 6:37 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne with the patient, heading to ECMC.

A motor-vehicle accident is reported in Darien at 2198 Walker Road. A black mini van is in a ditch. Darien fire and ambulance are responding. 

A Mercy rig is also called in non-emergency mode. A first responder reports occupants are out; minor injuries.

The location is between Smithley and Simonds roads.

UPDATE 5:16 p.m.: A flatbed tow is called for the Chrysler mini van.

UPDATE 5:19 p.m.: Mercy's response is cancelled by command.

A motor-vehicle accident is reported in the area of 5698 Byron Elba Road, Byron.

One person with a possible back injury is still in a vehicle.

Byron fire and South Byron fire and Mercy EMS responding.

UPDATE 9:17 p.m.: Fire police from Elba requested to assist with traffic control.

UPDATE 9:27 p.m.: A Byron responding unit can return to quarters.

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at 5488 Ellicott Street Road, Bethany. The location is between Main Road and Clapsaddle Road. Stafford Fire Department and Mercy medics are also responding.

UPDATE 4:23 p.m.: Fire police are responding for traffic control.

UPDATE 4:31 p.m.: Injuries do not appear to be serious according to a first responder.

UPDATE 5:05 p.m.: A sedan was pulling out of a driveway onto northbound Route 63 and it pulled into the path of a southbound Chevrolet. No one in the sedan was injured. The two occupants of the Chevrolet were sitting up and talking with medics and were going to be transported to a hospital for evaluation. The investigation is ongoing. It is unknown at this time whether citatations will be issued.

A car vs. bicyclist accident is reported in the city at West Main Street and Montclair Avenue. City fire, police and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 2 p.m.: The bicyclist was standing up next to the bicycle when first responders arrived. The person has minor injuries and was taken to UMMC for evaluation. A female driver was southbound on Montclair Avenue and went to make a right-hand turn into West Main Street when the accident occurred. She says she looked both ways and it was clear, then the bicyclist suddenly appeared in front of her. The driver was not injured.

A motor-vehicle accident is reported at 9036 South Lake Road, Pembroke.

A car reportedly hit a house and the driver fled the scene.

One car involved.

Injuries are reported.

Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments responding.

A milk truck is on its side in a ditch at Dry Bridge Road and Sandpit Road, Alexander.

The driver is out of the vehicle and reportedly uninjured.

Alexander fire is on scene.

The second driver involved in a head-on collision on Route 19 in Bergen yesterday afternoon has died.

Gary C. Beehler, 82, succumbed to his injuries, the Sheriff's Office reported this morning.

Beehler's 2007 Chrysler Town & Country minivan was struck by a 2014 Toyota RAV4 driven by Caroline F. Bianchi, 74, of Bergen. Bianchi was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 74-year-old woman from Bergen, Caroline F. Bianchi, died this afternoon following a two-car collision on Route 19 near Creamery Road.

Another person was seriously injured.

The preliminary investigation by the Sheriff's Office indicates that Bianchi was southbound on Route 19 in a 2014 Toyota RAV4 when it traveled over the centerline of North Lake Road and struck a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Gary C. Beehler, 82, of Hamlin.

The vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.

Beehler was transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious physical injuries.

Bianchi was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Tom Douglas.

Investigators have yet to determine why Bianchi's vehicle failed to maintain its lane of travel. 

The accident is being investigated by Deputy Andrew Mullen, Deputy Jordan Alejandro, Investigator Chad Minuto and members of the Crash Management Team including Sgt. Jason Saile and Deputy Kyle Krzemien. Assisting at the scene were the Town of Bergen Fire Department, Churchville Fire, Mercy EMS, and State Police.

A motor-vehicle accident with entrapment and unknown injuries is reported on North Lake Road (Route 19) in Bergen just south of Creamery Road. Bergen fire and medics are responding.

UPDATE 2:46 p.m.: One car is completely blocking traffic; another is in a ditch, according to a first responder on scene. Mercy Flight is on in-air standby.

UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: Bergen Fire Police are called to shut down Route 19 at Peachey Road and at Creamery Road. A second ambulance is called in.

UPDATE 2:56 p.m.: One patient, a male, who is conscious and alert and still being extricated. "We are flying him," says a first responder, and Mercy Flight is heading to the scene. 

UPDATE  2:57 p.m.: The landing zone will be a cornfield east of scene, north of a barn.

UPDATE 3:01 p.m.: Due to the height of the cornstalks, the landing zone is changed to the roadway north of the accident.

UPDATE 3:05 p.m.: Wires on both sides prevented Mercy Flight from landing in the roadway. They just landed in a grassy area at the corner of the intersection.

UPDATE 3:16 p.m.: Patient is extricated.

UPDATE 3:27 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne and headed to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Churchville fire, which responded to the scene for mutual aid, is going to their own fire hall to stand by for Bergen.

UPDATED 6:05 p.m.: It is confirmed that this was a fatal accident; one person in the crash died. More T/K

There were no injuries in a two-car accident at 5:35 p.m. at East Avenue and Vine Street, Batavia. A State trooper happened to be in the neighborhood and rolled up on the accident right after it happened.

A three-vehicle collision with unknown injuries is blocking traffic on East Main Street and Masse Place in the city. City of Batavia Fire Department, police and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: Mercy medics are back in service.

A driver suffered only a minor injury, and did not require transport to a hospital, after the driver's car struck a utility pole along Route 262 just west of Bank Street around 10 a.m.

Byron and South Byron fire along with Mercy EMS responded.

Powerlines were down.

The roadway remains closed while National Grid completes repairs.

A pedestrian who was struck while crossing East Main Street on Friday night has been identified by Batavia PD as 45-year-old Casey Nutting, of Batavia.

Nutting, according to witnesses, was running across the street, about 50 yards east of Liberty Street, from south to north when he was struck by a minivan.

The driver of the minivan, whose identity has not been released, has not been charged and police said no charges are anticipated.
