Two-car accident with injuries at routes 5 and 19, Le Roy

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at routes 19 and 5. Le Roy fire and ambulance are dispatched.

UPDATE 3:07 p.m.: Only one person is injured, and complains of head pain. Caledonia's ambulance is called in because Le Roy is out on another call.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: The patient is with Caledonia medics. Not sure if the person will be transported. The roads are open and traffic has cleared. Le Roy ambulance is back in service.

Two cars hit head on shortly after 1:15 p.m. at Main and Bank streets. Both drivers appeared a little shaken up but not seriously injured.

Batavia PD, city fire and Mercy EMS were on scene quickly and the intersection was cleared by 1:45 p.m.

Woman severs finger in accident

A woman in her mid-20s had part of a finger severed after her hand got stuck in a piece of machinery -- we did not hear what kind. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy Medics and law enforcement.

The location is said to be near the Flying J Travel Center, north of the Thruway overpass, by a trail. She is roadside. Her left index finger is completely severed at the first knuckle and the ring finger is partically severed at "the last knuckle."

UPDATE 5:57 p.m.: The patient is being transported to Erie County Medical Center. Pembroke and Indian Falls are back in service.

UPDATE 7:50 p.m.: According to a reader, the woman was on a four-wheeler that was towing another four-wheeler with a rope. The woman got her hand caught in the rope.

Minor injury accident reported at Route 77 and Lewiston Road, Alabama

A two vehicle accident, one blocking, and minor injuries reported, at Route 77 and Lewiston Road, Alabama.

Alabama fire and Mercy EMS responding.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m.: All three people involved are sign-offs. The Mercy EMS ambulance is back in service. One flatbed tow truck requested to the scene.

Car crashes into water, but driver is out, on Tonawanda reservation

One vehicle reportedly rolled over and crashed into water on the north side of the Indian reservation "where the bridge is out." The driver is out of the car and is headed to a residence at 6392 Meadville Road, south of Owen Road. Alabama Fire Department and Mercy Medic #3 are responding.

UPDATE 8:51 p.m.: The lone victim is now at the house on Meadville Road.

UPDATE 8:54 p.m.: The unoccupied vehicle is upside down in a ditch in the vicinity of Klossen and Feeder roads.

Car crash at routes 5 and 19, Le Roy

A two-car accident with injuries is reported at routes 5 and 19. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding.

UPDATE 12:59 p.m.: Responders not yet on the road are told to remain in quarters. Injuries, if any, are minor. The vehicles are able to be moved to the side of the road.

UPDATE 1:03 p.m.: The assignment is back in service.

Pavilion responds to big rig and car collision on Big Tree Road, Town of Covington

A tractor-trailer and sedan have collided at 7695 Big Tree Road, Town of Covington. Pavilion Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. It's not yet known if the accident is blocking traffic. Mercy Flight's availability is being checked.

UPDATE 9:26 p.m.: Mercy Flight out of Batavia and Buffalo is not available due to weather conditions.

UPDATE 9:28 p.m.: The roadway is iced over heavily and it does not look like the state DOT has cleared the roads. Emergency responders are told to use extreme caution. A responder on scene reports one minor injury. The accident is partially blocking traffic. A second ambulance is called in.

UPDATE 9:35 p.m.: Southbound traffic will be stopped at routes 63 and 246. The semi-truck driver will need to be checked out. The personal vehicle had driver's side impact and the driver will need to be evaluated.

UPDATE 9:38 p.m.: The accident is deemed to be completely blocking northbound traffic.The site is near the Agrifab & Repair facility.

UPDATE 9:58 p.m.: The semi-truck driver is declining medical treatment. The second ambulance is cancelled. The driver of the sedan is being taken to UMMC.

UPDATE 10:30 p.m.: The driver of the sedan, an 18-year-old female, is being taken to UMMC with a complaint of lip pain.

UPDATE 12:40 a.m. Pavilion back in service.

Two-car crash at Quaker Hill and Lockport roads, Elba

A two-car accident is reported at Quaker Hill and Lockport roads in Elba. Minor injuries. It is partially blocking traffic and fire police are requested to the scene. Elba Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 11:34 a.m.: The Elba assignment is back in service. Two patients refused medical attention. The roadway is reopened.

Car smashes into power pole on Law Street in the city causing some power outages

A car struck a utility pole in the area of 4 Law St. about 10 minutes ago, causing a power outage in some parts of the city. The pole has high-tension wires and it's snapped in half. Traffic will be rerouted at Jackson and Chestnut streets and Law and Walnut streets. Unknown injuries. National Grid is notified, no ETA given. In some places, power went out and within, say, two minutes came back on again.

UPDATE 7:23 p.m.: National Grid is on scene.

UPDATE 7:31 p.m.: There were no injuries. The driver was a sign-off.

Darien man killed in early morning crash on Route 238

A 25-year-old man from Darien was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-car accident on Route 238, Town of Darien, this morning.

Timothy R. Bezczynski was pronounced dead by Coroner Kristine Flanagan.

The driver of the other car, Mary P. Dufour, 59, of Dale, was transported to ECMC by an ambulance with a fractured leg and other injuries.

A Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Bezczynski and a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Dufour hit head on on snow-covered Attica Road about a mile southeast of Griswold Road shortly after 6 a.m.

A deputy who arrived on scene first notified dispatchers of a possible fatality.

Darien Fire Department and Ambulance Service and Mercy EMS were dispatched. Mercy Flight was grounded due to weather.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Deputy Chief Gordon Dibble said that investigators have yet to determine which vehicle crossed the center line.

Bezczynski was headed eastbound and Dufour was westbound.

Both victims required extrication from their vehicles by Darien fire volunteers.

Route 238 was closed in both directions for about three hours following the accident.

Assisting in the investigation are Deputy John Weis, Deputy Lonnie Nati, Deputy Jason Saile, Deputy Eric Seppala and Sgt. Brian Frieday.

Alexander fire and Attica fire assisted with traffic control. Mercy EMS also assisted at the scene.

Person trapped in car after hitting tree on Keeney Road, though apparently not injured

A car has hit a tree in the area of 8786 Keeney Road, Le Roy, and a person is reportedly trapped in the vehicle, though no injuries are reported.

Le Roy fire and ambulance along with mutual aid from Pavilion requested to the scene.

UPDATE 8:07 p.m.: Two people are entrapped in the car, with possible minor injuries. All responders can come in non-emergency. Pavilion can stand by in quarters.

UPDATE 8:27 p.m.: Le Roy is back in service.

Teenager remains in intensive care following accident on snowy Route 98 in Elba

A 16-year-old girl from Holley remains in the intensive care unit at Erie County Medical Cener this morning following a head-on collision last night on Route 98 in Elba.

The accident occurred just south of Edgerton Road at 8:09 p.m. when a southbound Dodge sedan driven by Ashley Nicol Deskins, 18, of Hall Road, Holley, crossed the center line and hit an oncoming car.

Deskins vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a field on the east side of Route 98.

Extrication teams from Elba and Town of Batavia fire departments were called to the scene.

Jessica Deskins, 16, reportedly suffered, neck and abdominal injuries. She was transported by Mercy EMS to the Genesee County Airport, and from there flown by Mercy Flight to ECMC.

Ashley Deskins was taken by ground ambulance to ECMC where she was treated and released.

The other driver, Gina Delelys, 41, of Log City Road, Elba, was transported to UMMC for minor injuries.

A baby in Deskin's vehicle, Maelee Scott, was not injured. The car is owned by Brittany Scott of East Main Street, Batavia.

Deputy Kevin McCarthy investigated the accident and his report indicates Deskins may have been driving too fast for road conditions.

A lake effect snowstorm had started about an hour prior to the accident and Route 98 had some snow on it.

UPDATE: A revised accident report released by the Sheriff's Office this evening says charges are pending in the accident. Also, Maelee Scott was transported to Mothers and Childrens Hospital in Erie County with minor injuries.

Injury accident at routes 5 and 77

A two-car injury accident is reported at routes 5 and 77. Indian Falls Fire Department is called along with Mercy medics. Mercy Flight will not be available.

UPDATE 9:09 p.m.: Mercy Flight is not needed. National Grid is notified that an intersection light "has been knocked off the pole," although the pole is intact. The wires are low-hanging.

UPDATE 9:12 p.m.: Fire police are called for traffic control. Pembroke fire is assisting at the scene. An ambulance is requested to be expedited. Chest pain and the possibility of fractured ribs are reported.

UPDATE 9:28 p.m.: A second ambulance, from Darien, is requested to provide mutual aid.

UPDATE 9:49 p.m.: Darien is transporting a patient to UMMC.

UPDATE Sunday, 11:30 a.m.: State Police investigated the accident. Here's the information available at this time. Matthew Weatherbee, 28, allegedly ran a red light. The other driver was Joshua Phillips, 20. Both were transported to ECMC.

Accident with injuries reported on Route 98, south of Edgerton, Elba

Two ambulances are requested to a motor-vehicle accident on Route 98 just south of Edgerton Road, Elba.

Elba Fire Department is responding.

Law enforcement is on scene and reports extrication will be needed and that Route 98 needs to be shut down in both directions.

No word on how serious the injuries might be.

UPDATE 8:21 p.m.: Two Mercy Flight helicopters requested to the scene. Mercy Flight #5 out of Batavia and Mercy Flight #6 out of Buffalo are started.

UPDATE 8:26 p.m. (by Billie): All available manpower from Elba fire is requested to the scene.

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: Elba is requesting that Town of Batavia Fire Department to send Engines 24 and 20 to the scene -- a rescue truck and one equipped with extrication jaws.

UPDATE 8:33 p.m.: Both Mercy Flights -- # 5 and #6 -- cancelled due to weather.

UPDATE 8:35 p.m.: Fire police are cancelled.

UPDATE 8:36 p.m.: The jaws are needed right away. Mercy Flight states that if one of the ambulances can get to the Batavia hangar, they can leave from there and go to Buffalo, but the helicopter can't head north (to the scene itself). Also, the Buffalo ship is heading to Batavia's airport and the Batavia ship is on standby there.

UPDATE 8:41 p.m.: Medics report that "patient 1" -- a 17-year-old with head, neck and abdominal injuries -- is being transported to the Batavia hangar for transport by Mercy Flight.

UPDATE 8:45 p.m.: The second patient has been extricated.

UPDATE 8:47 p.m.: A third ambulance is called.

UPDATE 8:50 p.m.: Two ambulances are One unit is going to Erie County Medical Center, another to Women's and Children's Hospital in Buffalo. One adult and an infant still require transport. Town of Batavia is cleared from the accident.

UPDATE 8:56 p.m.: A "patient en route to the hangar is unresponsive now." An inquiry is made about Byron's availability to send an ambulance for the remaining patient -- a fourth ambulance called to the scene.

UPDATE 9:47 p.m.: Road is re-open. Elba back in service.

Car crashes into tree on Oak Street near Main, City of Batavia

A car is reported to have struck a tree on Oak Street, north of Main Street. There are said to be three injuries. City of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding, along with police for traffic control.

UPDATE 6:44 p.m.: A 24-year-old female is being taken to UMMC with complaints of back and knee pain.

UPDATE 6:46 p.m.: A second Mercy rig is taking two patients to UMMC, both females. One is 55 years old and complains of right hip pain and the other bit the tip of her tongue.

Rollover accident with 'heavy entrapment' on Spring Road, Alexander

A rollover accident with injuries and "with heavy entrapment" is reported in the area of 3581 Spring Road in Alexander. The nearest available Mercy Flight, in Olean, is airborne. Alexander Fire Department and medics are responding.

UPDATE 1:41 p.m.: The location is at the entrance to Frey's Sand & Gravel Co. Vehicle is on its side. "We're going to need the struts and tools set up when we arrive."

UPDATE 1:44 p.m.: The extrication process is expected to be lengthy.

UPDATE 1:47 p.m.: The ETA for Mercy Flight is 20 minutes.

UPDATE 1:48 p.m.: Mercy medics are on scene.

UPDATE 2:04 p.m.: "We've almost got him out." The helicopter is nearly there.

UPDATE 2:09 p.m.: The patient has just been extricated. Mercy Flight has a three-minute ETA and Strong Memorial Hospital will be its destination once the patient is onboard.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m.: Mercy Flight has landed.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Mercy Flight is headed to Strong.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Alexander is back in service.

UPDATE (by Howard): Landen P. McCormick, 24, of Sandpit Road, Alexander, was driving on a gravel road cutting through farmland owned by his family when he lost control of his 2007 Dodge Ram pickup. The truck appears to have fishtailed, causing it to hit an embankment and roll up a small hill on the west side of the road. McCormick may have suffered a dislocated shoulder and was complaining of chest pain. Because of the nature of the accident and the complaint of pain, McCormick was flown to Strong by Mercy Flight as a precaution. No citations were issued. The accident was investigated by Deputy Chris Parker.

Car crash, with one minor injury, at Macomber and Batavia Oakfield TL Road

A motor-vehicle accident is reported at Macomber and Batavia Oakfield Town Line Road in Oakfield Alabama. There is one injury and the person is inside the vehicle, alert and conscious. Oakfield Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. Law enforcement is on scene.

UPDATE 4:17 p.m.: It's actually in Alabama's fire district. Oakfield was called first however, and asks for Alabama to provide fire police for traffic control.

UPDATE 4:19 p.m.: One patient will need transport to a hospital, two others will be sign-offs.

UPDATE 4:41 p.m.: Alabama is opening up the roadway and returning to service, along with Oakfield. One person is being taken to UMMC.

MVA with injuries at Route 19 and Selden Road, Le Roy

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at Route 19 and Selden Road in Le Roy. Traffic is being shut down on Route 19 at Parmalee and Randall / North Street roads. Mercy Flight is not available, if it is deemed needed. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding and an ambulance from Bergen is requested for mutual aid.

UPDATE 6:59 p.m.: Medics are told to proceed in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 7:03 p.m.: Bergen is told to go back in service.

UPDATE 7:22 p.m.: Shortly, northbound traffic will be allowed to proceed.

UPDATE 7:47 p.m.: One patient was taken by Le Roy to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Car crash with minor injuries on South Lake Road, Bergen

A motor-vehicle accident with minor injuries is reported at 7227 S. Lake Road. Bergen Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 2:47 p.m.: Fire police will shut down one lane of traffic. Only one vehicle is involved.

UPDATE 2:51 p.m.: The patient is a female who is conscious and alert.

UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: All traffic will be briefly shut down on the roadway so the ambulance can turn around and head to Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport.

UPDATE 3:14 p.m.: One lane of traffic is open, with traffic police again alternating the flow. A National Grid pole was struck at the base but is not broken; the company will be notified.

UPDATE 3:17 p.m.: Bergen is back in service. The roadway is being reopened. A deputy will remain on scene until the vehicle is towed
