 Alexander improved to 5-0-1 on the season with a 7-0 win over Pembroke at home on Saturday morning.  Alexander jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead with goals from Sophomore Abby Shilvock (7th minute - assisted by Junior Julia Pettys), Senior Megan Schmieder (13th minute, assisted by Senior Morgan Mattice), Pettys (24th minute, unassisted), Senior Kylie Bank (35th minute assisted by Pettys and Sophomore Gabby Kwiatek) and Senior Tessa Bigelow (38th minute assisted by Bank).

Alexander put 2 more goals away win the 2nd half with Kwiatek finding the net in the 7th minute unassisted and Shilvock finding the net for her 2nd in the 14th minute unassisted.  Senior Hannah Wilson had 5 saves in net for her 5th win of the season and her 1st shutout.  Alexander's next game is Wednesday the 22nd @ Notre Dame.

The Batavia Girls Tennis Team improved to 5-2 on the year by defeating Spencerport in a close match 4-3.  Lisa Ferkinghoff, the exchange student from Germany continues to dominate at 3rd singles and remains undefeated.  She easily beat Jackie Moyars 6-2, 6-1. 

Also contributing to the win were:

2nd singles: Michelle Richenberg over Abby Buscaglia 0-6, 6-2, 6-2.

1st doubles: Nicole Guilds and Maryssa Peirick over Kendra Schulkis and Brittany McIntee 6-2, 6-2.

2nd doubles: Robin Clemm and Laura Mullen over Beth Zarpentine and Jennifer Corwin 6-4, 6-2.

Congratulations to Florence Ferrando, of Churchville, the winner of the Sept. 18 Batavia Downs Casino $1,000 Handicapping Contest.

She bested 312 other contestants with a top score of 47 points to claim the $500 top prize.

Frank Camiola, of East Rochester, took home $250 for finishing second via the tiebreaker over Dan Dickens, of Batavia. Each finished with 46 points but Camiola’s tiebreaker total of $92.40 was well ahead of Dickens, who received $125.

Six contestants finished with 44 points. Once again the tiebreaker -- $2 to win on every winner selected -- helped vault Jeff Grabowski into the fourth place and William Park into fifth. Grabowski’s tiebreaker total of $32.30 was good enough to win $75 while Park’s $27.30 tiebreaker total earned him $50.

All prize money can be picked up beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Players Club. The final free handicapping contest of the season takes place Oct. 9.

The 2010 New York Sire Stakes season ended with a bang on Saturday night with a pair of track records set and another impressive appearance by Jezzy, now a perfect 10 for 10 lifetime.

The evening featured four divisions of 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters and three events for 2-year-old trotting fillies. More than $275,000 in stakes money was offered.

The Credit Winner colt, Stimulus, started the fireworks when he trotted to a new track record for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings in the very first race.

Leaving from the rail, Stimulus with Marcus Johansson in the bike, sat the two-hole until the top of the stretch and roared out of the pocket to a 1:57.3 score, lowering Russell Hill’s record, set last season, by a fifth of a second.

Stimulus is owned by the contingent of Christina Takter, John Fielding and Falkbolagen Ab. Jimmy Takter is the conditioner.

However Stimulus’s name didn’t stay in the record books long, as another son of Credit Winner, Whata Winner, would annihilate that standard later in the evening.

Leaving from the rail with Hall of Famer Jim Doherty in the sulky, Whata Winner was sent right to the front and never looked back, turning back heavily favored Blacktuxwhitesox’s (Jeff Gregory) stretch bid to notch his name in the record books with a 1:56.2 clocking.

His time was just two-fifths of a second off Earl’s all-age record. The fractions were :28-:58-1:26.2. Whata Winner is trained and co-owned by Jim Doherty along with Thomas Dillon and Terrax, Inc. Whata Winner scored his eight win of the campaign and raised his 2010 earnings to more $247,000.

The much heralded trotting sensation Jezzy had no problem remaining unbeaten heading to next Saturday's Yonkers Night of Champion finals for 2-year-old trotting fillies when she cruised to the best 6-1/2 length score in 2:03 for trainer/driver Ray Schnittker. Not that she needed any help, but five early breakers made her appearance basically a training mile.

Ray Schnittker, Jerry Silva, Jeffrey Gural and Theodore Gewertz own the Credit Winner-Ladylind freshman. Gural’s Little E farm bred Jezzy who has earned over $222,000 for her connections.

Dreamy Dawn become the new track record holder for 2-year-old trotting fillies at the Downs when she easily lowered Princess Maddie’s (2:00.4) record by almost two seconds.

Sent right to the top from post-two by reinsman Jeff Gregory, Dreamy Dawn put up all the numbers en route to 4-1/2 length, 1:59 victory to establish the mark. The fractions were :29-:59-1:29. The quickly improving Dream Vacation - Divine Eos juvenile is owned/trained and was bred by Ed Lohmeyer.

“What a fantastic New York Sire Stakes season we’ve had,” Mike Kane, vice president of Live Racing said. “We had six track records set and the fans came out to watch. Our on-track handle was up 16 percent tonight thanks to a great racing card.”
 
The final NYSS late closers of the season take place when racing resumes on Tuesday night. Two-year-old colt and gelding trotters compete in four divisions worth $13,200 each. Two of the late closers will be raced as non-wagering events starting at 6 p.m.
 
Veteran reinsman Ken Holliday starts the new race week just two wins shy of career milestone 5,000. Post time for the first of 12 is 6:40 p.m.

The Batavia Girls Tennis Team improved to 4-2 on the year with a decisive win over Webster Thomas 5-2 on Friday afternoon.  All three doubles teams posted victories for the first time this season.

Nicole Guilds and Maryssa Peirick led the way at first doubles by defeating Kendall Baller and Jessica Cargis 6-4, 6-1.  At second doubles Robin Clemm and Laura Mullen defeated Katie Epner and Jenna Coonens 6-4, 6-3.  At third doubles Emma Peirick and Alexis-Jackson Warner defeated Emilie Dawson and Candice McCardle 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Continuing to dominate at singles this season are Michelle Richenberg and Lisa Farkinghoff.  At second singles Richenberg defeated Brianna Gammons 6-1, 6-4.  At third singles Farkinghoff defeated Kellynn Killips 6-2, 6-3.

The teams next match is Monday at Spencerport.

 Alexander moved its record to 4-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the Genesee Region with a 2-1 win over Byron-Bergen (1-2) Tuesday night in Bergen.  Alexander jumped out to an early lead when Senior Midfielders Tessa Bigelow and Morgan Mattice both got their heads on a direct kick and Junior Forward Julia Pettys found the net (her 7th of the year) to put Alexander up 1-0.  That lead didn't last long as Bergen converted a through ball on a direct kick to make the score 1-1.  Alexander had the lead back within 10 minutes of the Bergen goal as Senior Midfielder Autumn Atkinson fired her first goal into the back of the net off a cross from Pettys midway through the 1st half.  That is all the scoring that the game would see despite several other chances throughout the remainder of the game, including 2 breakaways by Pettys in the final 5 minutes.

Alexander's defense played a stellar game allowing only 5 shots allowing Senior Keeper Hannah Wilson (3 saves) to have an easy day in net for Alexander.

Alexander is off until Saturday when they will host Pembroke at 9am.

The Batavia Girls Tennis team lost to Monroe County Powerhouse Brighton 1-6 at home on Wednesday afternoon.  The lone bright spot in the day was the excellent doubles play of Nicole Guilds and Lisa Farkinghoff.  The first doubles team won 6-4, 6-4 to post the lone win of the match for Batavia.  This was the first match that they played together as a doubles team.  The first four matches of the season Farkinghoff played 3rd singles and Guilds played 4th singles.  Both players are undefeated so far this season.   Batavia drops to 3-2 while Brighton improves to 4-0.

Tuesday, the Batavia Girls Tennis team continued their winning ways by crushing Greece Odyysey 6-1 at Basil A. Marella Park in Greece. The team has won three in a row to improve to 3-1 on the year.

Amy Schmidt beat Nina Torres 6-4, 6-3 at first singles, Michelle Richenberg crushed Alyssa Dunne at second singles 6-0, 6-0, and Lisa Ferkingoff easily beat Bria Juda at 3rd singles 6-1, 6-1.

Nicole Guilds continues to dominate at 4th singles where she routed Shannon Muerb 6-1, 6-1 while delivering 9 aces.  In her first four matches Guilds has outscored her opponents 48-6!

At  first doubles Maryssa Peirick and Robin Clemm defeated Miranda Fischetto and Jen Zarozynski 6-3, 6-2 and at third doubles Laura Mullen and Mariah Brennen beat Laura Webb and Emma Schailbe 6-0, 6-3.

The team hosts Monroe County powerhouse Brighton today at 4:30.

Attica jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal on a breakaway in the 1st half and looked to be on their way to a league victory over Alexander until they were issued a red card with 21 minutes left in the game and played a player down for the final portion of the game and allowed Alexander back into it.  Sophomore Midfielder Abby Shilvock scored the tying goal with 18 minutes left in the game and that score held up until overtime.

3 minutes into the first overtime Shilvock sent a ball to the front of the net and Junior Forward Julia Pettys headed the ball in the goal (her 6th of the season) to put Alexander on top 2-1.  That score held up for the remainder of overtime and snuck a victory from what had looked to be a loss midway through the 2nd half.

Alexander moves to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the league while Attica falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.  Alexander's next game is Tuesday night in Byron-Bergen at 6:30 against the Bees in what should be another great Genesee Region Game.

The BHS Girls Tennis Team improved to 2-1 on the year by routing Hilton 5-2 in Hilton on Monday afternoon.  The singles players continue to dominate the courts with 3 of 4 having undefeated records. In this match the singles players dropped a combined total of 6 games!

First singles: Amy Schmidt over Alyssa Motyl 6-1, 6-1. 

Second singles: Michelle Richenberg over Katie Wroblewski 6-0, 6-1.

Third singles: Lisa Farkinghoff over Tessa Kelly 6-1, 6-1.

Fourth Singles: Nicole Guilds over Kristi Fray 6-1, 6-0.

First Doubles: Maryssa Peirick and Robin Clemm  over Danielle Tocteur and Kelsey Krist 6-2,6-3.

(Batavia NY) --- Most race cards for the remainder of the 2010 Batavia Downs Casino harness meet will now be available to television viewers in both the Rochester and Buffalo regions, it was announced today by Michael D Kane, Vice President, Operations and Live Racing.

In the Rochester area, races will continue to be featured on Channel 98 on Time-Warner’s basic digital package. The coverage area includes all or parts of Genesee, Orleans, Monroe, Livingston, Wayne, Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Steuben Counties.

In the Buffalo area, racing will be carried on Channel 114 on Time-Warner (Channel 111 in Olean), WGRZ Digital Channel 2-2 and Verizon Fios Channel 460. The coverage area includes all or parts of Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.

Nightly race programming will begin at 6:30 p.m. and complete at about 10:00 p.m., according to Kane. Racing analyst Todd Haight returns for his 8th year and track announcer Joe Zambito for his 6th as co-hosts of the simulcast show.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Batavia Downs to showcase its live racing product to our two largest markets. It’s a nice attraction for new customers and provides our long-time racing fans with the nightly races in the comfort of their homes,” Kane said.

 Alexander knocked off 2 time defending league champion Holley Wednesday evening 3-1 in the first game on their new field.  It was Alexander's first win over Holley in over 2 years.

Alexander opened the scoring in the 18th minute as Senior Forward Megan Schmieder finished off a pass from Sophomore midfielder Abby Shilvock to make the score 1-0.  Holley tied it in the 34th minute on a corner kick.  Alexander nearly went back on top as Schmieder had a breakaway but failed to get a shot off before the Holley keeper slid to knock the ball off her feet.

In the 2nd half Alexander had the majority of the possession but could not convert any of their chances.  Senior Midfielder Tessa Bigelow took a pass from Senior Midfielder Claire Hartl but rang her shot off the crossbar to keep the score tied at 1.  In the 75th minute of the game Junior Forward Julia Pettys knocked in a rebound of her own shot to put Alexander back on top (her 5th goal of the season).  In the 78th minute Shilvock ripped a 30 yard shot into the top corner to put the game out of reach.

Alexander's Senior Keeper Hannah Wilson picked up her 2nd win of the season with 8 stops in goal.

Alexander's record is now 2-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.  Holley drops to 0-1.

Alexander's next game is Friday on the road @ Attica at 4:30pm.  Attica is 2-0 coming into the game.

 The Batavia Ramparts started their season off on a high note Wednesday night
 at the Falleti Ice Arena topping the Tri-County Eagles (Brockport) by a score
 of 2-1. Zack Blew started off the scoring for the Ramparts in the first
 period he was assisted by Evan Eckerson. The second (and winning)goal for the
 Ramparts was scored by Cody Bedard and assisted by Eckerson and Blew. Jimmy
 Johnson was awesome in goal for the Ramparts stopping 25 of 26 shots against
 him. It was a great beginning to what looks to be a promising season for the
 home town 16U Ramparts team. The teams next game is at Canandaigua on Friday  at 6pm.
