A car vs. bicycle accident with injuries is reported at 500 E. Main St., in front of the pizza restaurant. City fire and Mercy medics are responding.
UPDATE 10:44 a.m.: The bicyclist was transported to UMMC with a complaint of arm pain. He will be issued a citation. A police officer at the scene said the bicyclist was riding eastbound on the sidewalk and proceeded to cross Harvester Avenue as a pickup truck, also eastbound on East Main Street, with the right-of-way was attempting to make a right turn onto East Main Street Harvester. The truck driver said he tried to stop in time to avoid striking the bicyclist but was unable to do so.
Two days ago, just east of
Two days ago, just east of there, I'm driving east in the outside lane, and some idiot on a bike comes up THROUGH MOVING TRAFFIC - between me and the guy in the inside lane (and we're both MOVING) - and PASSES us. What an idiot. If he'd have gotten in an accident, I wouldn't have felt the least bit sorry for him. He needed to get hit.
Irene. I noticed you wrote
Irene. I noticed you wrote "idiot on a bike". Did you mean bicycle, or motorcycle?
The reason I ask is, (some) U.S. states, by law, allow "lane splitting". I'm not sure if NY is one of the states that allow it.
Don't know what "lane splitting" is? Go to 0:40 into the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjtjexSg0SM and watch for a couple minutes.
THAT is just one of many Youtube videos showing "lane splitting".
"Idiot on a bike"? How about idiots on motorcycles?
How about "idiots in government", passing asinine laws?
i would assume that because
i would assume that because the story is about a "bicycle" accident that she is referring to someone on a "bicycle"
Hi, Jeff.
Hi, Jeff.
Yeah, I also "assumed" that. But, as a lot of people use the term "bike" to refer to motorcycles, I wasn't sure. Hence, my question.
There are some false
There are some false statements to this report. The driver was turning left on Harvester not right when he hit the person.I know because it was my son involved on the bike.
I checked with Howard and
I checked with Howard and corrected the post to: specify that the truck driver was also eastbound on East Main Street; and to correct an error -- he was turning right onto Harvester (not on Harvester turning right onto East Main).
But the fact remains that the bicyclist was cited by police who determined the truck had to right-of-way.
Who would have the right of
Who would have the right of way if the bicyclist was riding in the road where he was supposed to be? Every other part of this scenario the same.
Your article is still wrong,
Your article is still wrong, the driver was westbound on East Main and turned left to Harvester Ave as the bike rider was in the middle of the crosswalk on harvester. If the police report says otherwise then that is a false statement. The bike rider was never question and a report made of his statement. What is wrong with the law enforcement sideing with one and not questioning the person who was injured? Something is terribly wrong here.
WOW!!
WOW!!
Who's right here? No, I meant left. Uh - Sorry! I meant correct! Or, maybe I should've just realized everything is going south with this post. Or would that be west? Now, I'M confused.
At the scene, I said right
At the scene, I said right-hand turn and the officer said yes. He may have misunderstood or I may have misunderstood, but unless I get a correction from the police, I'm going with that understanding of what happened. We're not going to change the story based on a comment from a person who wasn't there.
