Press release:
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) wrote Attorney General Eric Schneiderman again urging him to investigate the disparity in gas prices from county to county. Hawley, whose district is comprised of Genesee County and parts of Monroe and Orleans counties, mentioned the noticeably higher price of gas in his hometown of Batavia as compared to prices paid in surrounding counties. Hawley has written Schneiderman several times on this issue, urging him to investigate and take action on the fluctuation of gas prices in his district.
“In most instances Genesee and Orleans county gas prices range much higher than the surrounding counties,” wrote Hawley. “I have seen firsthand the pricing of gas stations in Batavia costing $.15-$.25 more per gallon than the various stations located in the surrounding contiguous counties: Erie and Monroe. I know there are many variables which determine the price per gallon of gas but it seems to me that the price should not differ significantly from county to county.”
Thank You Mr. Hawley for
Thank You Mr. Hawley for looking into this for us. We should not have to pay this much for gasoline in Batavia, when you can go 10 miles down the road and pay a lot less per gallon
appears to me mr. Hawley is
appears to me mr. Hawley is grandstanding..... we've been down this road with the investigations and got no where..... this is America, a shop keeper can sell his/her wares at what ever price they want, you don't like it? shop else where..... what do people expect, the government telling a shop keeper what prices he must charge?
I do buy it somewhere else.
I do buy it somewhere else. Where it's cheaper, and not tax free. I thought this was a place where we should buy local.
Another thing we ALL need to
Another thing we ALL need to be on watch and the defensive against... since the gas price has decreased so dramatically and most are simply focused on how good it feels to be paying less... what an opportunity for the tax and spend machine in Albany to sneak in a new gas tax. The majority wouldn't even notice it. Just like they didn't pay any notice to Nov 4, 2014 being election day.
WNY has some of the highest gas prices in the US... WHY??!!!

I agree with Darin, They have
I agree with Darin, They have gas sales usually 5 cents cheaper then the regular price once a week and there still 10 cents higher from the station 10 to 15 miles down the road. Thanks Mr. Hawley

were getting a letter sent . awsome
Apparently, no one bothered
Apparently, no one bothered to explain the zone pricing to Hawley?
And can the county "afford"
And can the county "afford" lower gas prices? They already were boohooing about the less than expected revenue gas sales taxes were generating. Drop the price, and drop the cash coming into the trough.
Bud, your point is exactly
Bud, your point is exactly why I posted earlier that we All need to be vigilant against a new gas tax being slipped in. That IMO is more likely than Assemblyman Hawley getting any equity in the various regional pricing. But, if he was successful in parity, then how much more likely a new gas tax to make up for the declined revenues.
