Batavia Music and Arts Advocacy Group to meet

The Batavia Music and Arts Advocacy Group (B-MAA) will hold an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the GOArt! building (corner of Bank and Main streets in Downtown Batavia.

For this meeting, RSVPs are encouraged for seating purposes.

All parents of children involved in music and art in the Batavia City School District are encouraged to attend.

'Held over performance' at Yorkshire Hall

After a sold-out world premiere of its dinner show,"13 Memento Mori Lane," Yorkshire Hall in Pembroke has announced a "held over" performance at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13.

The original "comedy/mystery/farce," is accompanied by a formal dinner. A special introductory ticket price of $22.95 includes the dinner, show and gratuity. Tickets are limited to advance sales only, and can be ordered by calling (585) 762-8160 or (716) 474-4300.

Washington Avenue Players present 'The First Annual Business Brains Competition'

The Washington Avenue Players will proudly present "The First Annual City Business Brains Competition" -- an original comedic dinner theater presentation, on July 28, 29 and 30.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 31 Washington Ave. in the City of Batavia.

Tickets are $12.50. There is no reserved seating. For tickets and information call 343-0488.

Annual home and garden tour

Here's a press release about Sunday's local home and garden tour.

The Landmark Society of Genesee County, Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners and St. James Episcopal Church are collaborating for a July 10 home and garden tour.

The event will run from 1 – 5 p.m. and 11 homes are included on the tour. The ticket price is $20, $15 for Landmark Society members, and can be purchased at Harrington’s Greenhouse in Batavia and the St. James Church office.

Three-day MooseCreek kicks off in Le Roy to benefit Mercy Flight

The Le Roy Moose Family Center will host MooseCreek 2011 July 15-17, coinciding with Le Roy's Oatka Festival.

The annual party under the big tent in the parking lot benefits Mercy Flight. The center is located at 21 Bank St. along the banks of the mighty Oatka Creek.

Pastel landscape demo at Go-Art!

Batavia Society of Artists is having a pastel landscape demonstration from 7 to 9.m. on Tuesday July 12 at Go-Art!, 201 E. Main St., Batavia.

Artist Gail Thomas will be demonstrating. This is open to the public for a $3 fee. New members always welcome, $20 membership fee.

Relay for Life at Van Detta Stadium

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Batavia will take place noon to midnight on Saturday, July 9 at Van Detta Stadium, 120 Richmond Ave.

The event is an opportunity for the community to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.

GC chamber holds meeting about this fall's trip to China

The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce will host an informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. on June 29 about the nine-day tour of China. It will take place at the chamber office on Main Street in Downtown Batavia.

This is the sixth time the chamber has offered this tour.

The trip is from Nov. 1 to 9 and costs $2,099 per person. The chamber believes this trip to be an exceptional value. Price includes air fare (from JFK), bus to/from JFK, hotel stays, three meals a day, bus tours (with guides), admission to tourist spots, and airport taxes throughout the trip.

Batavia High School Class of '76 holds 35th Reunion

Batavia High School's Class of 1976 is having a casual gathering to reunite with friends and socialize on Friday, July 1 at the Smoke House restaurant on Center Street.

The 35th Reunion will be from 6 to 11 p.m. on the second floor. Attire is casual, so is attitude. There will be a cash bar and food available.

Rotary's annual Fly-in Breakfast

The ever popular Batavia Rotary Club's annual Fly-in Breakfast is this Sunday, June 19, at the Genesee County Airport. It's also Father's Day!

Cost for breakfast is $7 and the time is 7 a.m. to noon.

The airport is located at 4701 E. Saile Drive in the Town of Batavia.

Byron Heritage Festival - music, BBQ, parade, fireworks and more

The Town of Byron and community volunteers are working together and excited to promote the Byron Heritage Festival for the fifth year on July 30th.

This year's events will be bigger and better than ever while continuing with some of the traditional activities.

7 a.m. -- Registration begins for 5K race, which starts at 8

8 a.m. -- Fishing Derby (12 and under) 5K Run / Race

9 a.m. -- Craft and Food Vendors, Townwide Garage Sales

'Nonviolent Peacemaking - Why it Works' topic of library talk

The second of a two-part series focusing on current events in the Middle East is scheduled in the Gallery Room of Richmond Memorial Library on Wednesday, June 1.

It is sponsored by Peaceful Genesee and will be led by Barry L. Gan, Ph.D, professor of Philosophy and director of the Nonviolence Program at St. Bonaventure University.

The session runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It's free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

A two-part series focusing on current events in the Middle East is scheduled in the Gallery Room of Richmond Memorial Library on Wednesday May 25 and on June 1.

Assemblyman Hawley holds outreach meeting at Old Courthouse, Batavia

Assemblyman Steve Hawley invites the public to attend his regular monthly outreach meeting for Genesee County residents at the Old Courthouse in Batavia

It's from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in the Legislative Conference Room . The courthouse is at 7 Main St. in the City of Batavia.

“The meeting will offer the people of Western New York an opportunity to voice their thoughts, concerns and ideas about the issues that matter most in our community,” Hawley said. “I strongly encourage all local citizens to attend this event.”

Mental health experts discuss depression & bipolar illness

A panel of doctors and other professionals will discuss the topic of "Managing the High and Lows of Depression & Bipolar" from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 10, at City Church Generational Center.

It's located at 15 Center St. in the City of Batavia.

May is Mental Health Month in Genesee County and this presentation is a partnership between City Church and the Mental Health Association in Genesee County.

33rd annual Picnic in the Park

The 33rd annual Picnic in the Park celebration will be held on Monday, July 4, in Centennial Park, Batavia.

It's a free day-long event featuring activities for families and children, folk art events, entertainment and refreshment stands. Each year, the event draws approximately 3,000 to 5,000 attendees.

Artists and crafters exhibit and sell their work – all handmade by them.
