Opening reception for artists in GO ARTS! premiere 'Digital Art Show'

The inaugural “Digital Art Show” is now on display in the GO ART! Batavia Satellite Gallery in the Genesee County Senior Center. It features 24 works by 13 artists.

There will be a free Meet-the-Artists Opening Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at the senior center, located at 2 Bank St. in the City of Batavia.

This exhibit is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, April 27.

Opening reception for artists in GO ARTS! debut 'Members Exhibition'

The premier GO ART! Members Exhibition featuring more than 60 works by 22 artists is now on display at the GO ART! Bank of Castile Main Gallery, Seymour Place, 201 E. Main St., Batavia.

A free Meet-the-Artist Opening Reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16, at the Bank of Castile Main Gallery.

The exhibit can be seen weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, April 27.

Spring open house featuring fencing and free food at EnGarde Batavia

The Spring Open House for EnGarde Batavia is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. for Friday, March 16 at the Harvester Avenue fencing studio. Main Street Pizza will be providing pizza and wings for those who attend this free event.

While there is no charge, preregistration is highly recommended.

Free concert in Le Roy: Irish sacred and secular music featuring hammered dulcimer and Celtic harp

Mitzie Collins (on hammered dulcimer) and Roxanne Ziegler (Celtic harp) will perform a free concert at the First Presbyterian Church in Le Roy at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 18.

The concert is part of this year's bicentennial events at the church. The musicians will perform a variety of Irish sacred and secular music.

The choir will participate in three of the songs. If you would like to join the choir for this concert, there will be a special pre-concert practice at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 at the church.

Family law seminar at college's BEST Center: Juvenile and Family Offense Matters

Opening event for new exhibit at HLOM: 'Treasured Wedding Memories'

A new exhibit called "Teasured Wedding Memories" opens March 31 at the Holland Land Office Museum in the City of Batavia.

It includes wedding gowns from 1840 through present showing the styles and customs of our Genesee County ancestors.

The opening event March 31 will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and there will be refreshments, entertainment by local musician Jeffrey Fischer, a sponsor display and door prizes.

Charles Men’s Shop and Stella’s Bridal Boutique will showcase 2012 Wedding apparel.

Oakfield-Alabama Central School kindergarten registration week begins

Kindergarten registration is scheduled for Monday, March 26th through Friday, March 30th at the elementary school office between the hours of 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Information packets have been sent to families.

Adult craft class at Richmond library: making a needle-felted bluebird

Learn how to needle-felt and construct a three-dimensional bluebird ornament in an adult craft class taught by Jen Reardon. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at Richmond Memorial Library.

An $8 materials fee is due at the time of registration ($10 for those without a felting needle). Participants also need to bring glue, scissors, disappearing ink pen and flat-topped straight pins.

The library is located at 19 Ross St. in the City of Batavia.

'State of the County' in Batavia's Old Court House

Genesee County’s annual “State of the County” address is planned for 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 14 in the chambers of the Old Court House in the City of Batavia.

Chair of the County Legislature Mary Pat Hancock will deliver the brief address to be followed by refreshments prior to the regularly scheduled legislature meeting. The speech will include key accomplishments of individual departments during 2011, as submitted by those departments.

Woolly Book Worms discuss "The Capture" at Richmond library

The Woolly Book Worms -- a book discussion group for students in grades three through five and their favorite adult -- will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Richmond Memorial Library in the Children's Room.

The discuss will be about "The Capture" by Kathryn Lasky. Feel free to bring a knitting, crocheting or another project to work on while we discuss this month's book. Light refreshments will be provided.

Glass making demo at Oatka School of Glass in Batavia

The Batavia Society of Artists is having its first demo of the year from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at the Oatka School of Glass, 56 Harvester Ave.

This is inside the Harvester Industrial Center. Use the main entrance, then take elevator or stairs to 2nd floor.

Amanda and Lance Taylor will instruct in the art of glass making and demonstrate the glass bead making process with hands on pendant and 2" x 3" hanging glass art pieces.

Adult book discussion group focuses on "The Call"

The Adult Book Discussion Group will meet at Richmond Memorial Library at 7 p.m on Monday, March 12, to discuss "The Call" by Yannick Murphy.

The book is the 2012 selection for “A Tale for Three Counties” community-reads project for Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties. Books are available to borrow or to purchase at the front desk. Refreshments served.

Free, live jazz tonight at Moonjava Cafe on Harvester Avenue, Batavia

Live jazz will be performed tonight beginning at 8 at Moonjava Cafe in Batavia, located at 56 Harvester Ave. Admission is free.

The cafe opens at 7 p.m. and features great coffee, baked goods, sandwiches and wraps for sale.

Come and enjoy jazz standards and other favorites performed by Dan Deluca (guitar), Jonathan Jaeger (bass) and Glen Cummings. They are set to play until 9:30 p.m.
