Assemblyman Hawley holds public outreach meeting in Stafford Town Hall

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R, I, C – Batavia) is hosting his regular monthly outreach meeting for Genesee County residents at Stafford Town Hall from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4.

“The meeting will provide the people of Western New York with an opportunity to share their thoughts on how to improve the quality of life in our area,” Hawley said. “I strongly encourage all local citizens to attend this event.”

The hall is located at 8903 Route 237 in the Town of Stafford.

Books Sandwiched In at Richmond library

Information meeting for travelers interested in the chamber's tour of China in October

The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a nine-day familiarization tour of China Oct. 22-30. The chamber is offering the community the unique opportunity to travel to China for the low price of $2,199.

Genesee ARC 'Sprout Film Festival' -- Second Show

The Sprout Film Festival returns to Genesee County on Saturday, March 31, at the Genesee ARC Community Center, 38 Woodrow Road in Batavia. It's free and open to the public.

Sprout is a nonprofit that holds a yearly festival in New York City and opens its library of films from around the world so the "touring festival" can travel all over the country.

The final group of films will be presented at 5 p.m. Doors open at 4 and artwork by local residents with disabilities is also featured. Refreshments will be available for sale until show time.

Artists reception at Roz Steiner Art Gallery

A diverse catalog of art projects produced by Genesee Community College Fine Arts students is on display in the Roz Steiner Art Gallery. The display reflects coursework from painting, drawing, photography, ceramics and 2D and 3D design classes.

The exhibition runs from March 22 through April 26. There will be a public reception for the artists from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 30. Many of the student artists will be present and refreshments will be served.

Byron Bergen Sports Boosters hold annual Faculty vs. NYS Troopers charity game

The Byron Bergen Sports Boosters will hold their 5th annual Faculty vs. NYS Troopers Charity Basketball Game at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 23 in the high school gymnasium.

The high school is located 6917 W. Bergen Road in Bergen.

Proceeds from the game will be donated to the sports programs at The Gillam Grant Community Center. Admission to the game is $1 students, $2 adults with a $6 family maximum.

Concessions including pizza, snacks, candy and beverages will be available.

Benefit for man who suffered brain injury after attack in Rochester

A benefit for Randy Tonner II and his son Maddox is being held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at the American Legion Post in Basom. Randy suffered traumatic brain injury on July 2, 2011 after being attacked and assaulted by two people in Rochester on his way home.

The location is 6554 Alleghany Road (Alabama corners Rts 63/77) across from the Holley Farms store.

There will be a Chinese Auction, 50/50 Raffle, beef on weck dinner and DJ music donated by TOAST.

Batavia Society of Artists hosts Denise Speary for an art demonstration from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday April 10 at GO ART!, 201 E. Main St., Batavia.

Information session at GCC on vet tech program

Genesee Community College will host a meeting on April 5 to introduce incoming students, as well as those still in high school and the general public, to the exciting possibilities of a career as a veterinary technician.

It will take place in the Conable Technology Building, Room T119, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Among topics that will be discussed: Careers in veterinary technology; the application and admissions process; academic requirements; program prerequisites; degree and licensure; and frequently asked questions

Make a spring chick hanging decoration at Richmond library

A Spring Chick Hanging Decoration class for adults will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10 at Richmond Memorial Library.

Learn how to paint this spring ornament in a class taught by decorative painter Elaine Becker. A $10 materials fee is due at the time of registration and includes a base-coated wood cut-out and paints. Brushes will be provided.

Opening reception for artists in GO ARTS! premiere 'Digital Art Show'

The inaugural “Digital Art Show” is now on display in the GO ART! Batavia Satellite Gallery in the Genesee County Senior Center. It features 24 works by 13 artists.

There will be a free Meet-the-Artists Opening Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at the senior center, located at 2 Bank St. in the City of Batavia.

This exhibit is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, April 27.

Opening reception for artists in GO ARTS! debut 'Members Exhibition'

The premier GO ART! Members Exhibition featuring more than 60 works by 22 artists is now on display at the GO ART! Bank of Castile Main Gallery, Seymour Place, 201 E. Main St., Batavia.

A free Meet-the-Artist Opening Reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16, at the Bank of Castile Main Gallery.

The exhibit can be seen weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, April 27.

Spring open house featuring fencing and free food at EnGarde Batavia

The Spring Open House for EnGarde Batavia is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. for Friday, March 16 at the Harvester Avenue fencing studio. Main Street Pizza will be providing pizza and wings for those who attend this free event.

While there is no charge, preregistration is highly recommended.

Free concert in Le Roy: Irish sacred and secular music featuring hammered dulcimer and Celtic harp

Mitzie Collins (on hammered dulcimer) and Roxanne Ziegler (Celtic harp) will perform a free concert at the First Presbyterian Church in Le Roy at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 18.

The concert is part of this year's bicentennial events at the church. The musicians will perform a variety of Irish sacred and secular music.

The choir will participate in three of the songs. If you would like to join the choir for this concert, there will be a special pre-concert practice at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 at the church.
