Tonight at Gates-Chili High School, Byron-Bergen/LeRoy ended their regular season unbeaten, with the boys and girls winning the GRL Championship meet.

The BBLR girls cruised to victory with 579 points, clinching their fifth GRL Championship win in a row. Senior Haylee Gartz won the Girls Swimmer of the Meet award, continuing her record-breaking streak by taking down her own BBLR school record and meet record in the 100 freestyle (54.39).  She also placed first in the 200 IM with a 2:20.26.    

Gartz, along with Anna Kent, Mikayla Yohon, and Kara Valdes broke the BBLR school record and placed first in the 200 medley relay with a 1:57.95 and broke the school record, tied the meet record, and won the 400 freestyle relay (3:50.38).

Yohon also won both her individual events, with a 26.39 in the 50 freestyle and a 1:06.34 in the 100 butterfly. And Valdes placed first in the 500 freestyle with a season-best 5:57.44.

Harley Allendale Columbia placed second with 327 points. Maria Nichols, Chloe Terio, Carolina Muelas, and Elise Pinch placed first in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:50.57. Pinch was also an individual winner, coming in first in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:21:55.

Pembroke/Alexander placed third with 273 points with several top 3 finishes and Attica placed fourth with 221 points with their own share of great performances.

Oakfield-Alabama's Tori Davis helped the girls clinch fourth place (243 points) by winning the 100 backstroke with a 1:01.98.

Batavia/Notre Dame placed sixth with 155 points. Senior Maddy Bellamy placed first in the 200 freestyle with a 2:03.65. Wheatland Chili's girls came in seventh with 110 points.

The BBLR boys won for the second year in a row. The boys started out strong, winning the 200 medley relay with Jack Walker, Lucas Morrison, Carter Fix, and Malacai McGrath finishing in 1:46.84. Fix also won the 200 (1:53.03) and 500 freestyles (4:59.60), earning him Boys Swimmer of the Meet honors. 

HAC's boys had an amazing night with Dylan Mayall winning the 200 IM (2:10.93) and 100 backstroke (58.46). Mayall, Andrew Fouraker, Landon Krul, and Hayden Williams won the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:37.10.

It came down to the last relay; with BBLR's Walker, McGrath, Sam Hersom, and Fix placing first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.03) and Zachary Gay, GJ Donofrio, Colton Erion, and Levi McGrath coming in fourth that secured the win for BBLR. In the end, BBLR had 523 points to HAC's 522 winning by only one point.

Pembroke/Alexander placed third with 403 points with several season-best swims. Wheatland-Chili's Miguel Gonzales won the 100 butterfly with a 58.25, helping secure fourth place for Wheatland with 159 points. 

Batavia/Notre Dame's Dominic Southall placed first in the 100 freestyle with a 51.67 and 100 breaststroke with a 1:07.53, earning the team fifth place (130 points). And Attica's Samuel Dunlap placed first in the 50 freestyle with a 23.72, with the team placing sixth with 45 points.

Fired by 32 points from Janessa Amesbury, Byron-Bergen beat Wheatland-Chile in Girls Basketball on Friday 51-38.

Megan Jarkiewicz scored six points for the Bees.

For Wheatland, Vanessa Guerro scored 14 points.

"WC played well with a very young team," said Bees Coach  Rick Krzewinski. "Chad Annis is doing a really nice job with his team. The win moves us to 9-2 with a home game Tuesday against Lyndonville. Tonight’s game was only our third in a month, so it will be nice to get into a rhythm for the last month before sectionals."

It was close but Byron-Bergen came out on the down side of the score against Wheatland-Chili in Boys Basketball on Thursday, losing 53-50.

Cody Carlson scored 16 points for the Bees. Cole DiQuattro scored 14, Andre White, 11, and Noah Clare, six.

Leighton Williams scored 35 for Wheaton.

Oakfield-Alabama's 12-point fourth quarter, compared to just six points for Byron-Bergen, helped the Hornets to a narrow victory in Boys Basketball on Wednesday.

The Hornets were up 44-42 at the closing buzzer.

O-A coach Ryan Stehlar said, "The team had to dig deep tonight multiple times during a tough battle. Coach Roxanne Noeth is a great coach, and her team plays hard. We had to try and match their intensity. We were fortunate to get big stops and make key plays to get the win. I’m proud of the guys for stepping up tonight when called on."

Oakfield-Alabama beat Byron-Bergen in Girls Basketball on Tuesday 50-46.

"A great high school basketball game between two very good teams playing at a high level," said OA Coach Jeff Schlagenhauf. "Rick (Krzewinski) always has his teams ready to play. They are so well-coached. It was a great win for our kids against a very good basketball team.

"Our defense really stepped up in the fourth quarter," he added. "We got some great contributions from Alexa Clark and Allison Harkness and Alea Groff. Allie Williams had a huge offensive fourth quarter for us."

Byron Bergen beat Notre Dame in Girls Basketball on Saturday 58-55.

For the Bees, Janessa Amesbury scored 22 points. Olivia Senf, who missed the previous five games with an ankle injury, scored 12, and Riley Shallenberger scored 10.

For the Irish, Sofia Falletti scored 19, and Shirley Thompson scored 11. Both girls had eight rebounds. Gianna Falleti scored seven and Lucia Fiorentino scored six with 11 rebounds.

"Nice quality win for us tonight against a very good and young ND team," said Byron-Bergen Coach Rick Krzewinski. "We did a nice job on Sofia Falletti in the first half as she scored six but added 13 in the second half. Eight grader Shirley Thompson scored 8 of her 11 points in the first half. You are going to hear a lot about her in the years to come."

Byron-Bergen is now 8-1. Notre Dame is 6-4.

After playing even with Byron-Bergen through the first two quarters in Boys Basketball on Thursday, Notre Dame pulled away in the third for a 70-52 win.

Chase Antinore scored 35 points for the Irish. TJ Cephus scored 14 and Aiden Bellavia scored 13.

For the Bees, Cody Carlson scored 30 points.

With only a three-point margin on Tuesday, 53-50, Byron-Bergen retained the "Battle of Route 262" trophy with a win over Elba.

For the Bees, Cody Carlson scored 24 points. Andre White scored 7, and picking up six each were Cole DiQuattro, Adam Cardenas, and Joe Brumsted.

For the Lancers, Nick Scott scored 18, Bing Zuber, 16, and Ryan Marsceill, 12.

Kendall squeaked past Byron-Bergen on Friday 46-45 in Boys Basketball.

Cole DiQuattro scored 15 points for the Bees. Cody Carlson added 10.

The Alexander Trojans, behind 35 points for Dylan Pohl, dominated Byron-Bergen in Boys Basketball on Thursday for an 80-41 win.

Damien Hale added 10 points for the Trojans.

No Bees hit double-digits in scoring in the game. Noah Clare scored nine, and Cole DiQuattro scored eight.

Before the game, Pohl was recognized for achieving 1,000 career points in the TTrojans' previous game. He is the first basketball player at Alexander to reach this milestone.

In Boys Basketball on Saturday, Byron-Bergen beat Pembroke by just two points on Saturday, 45-43.

Cody Carlson scored 18 points for the Bees. Noah Clare scored 11, and Cole Diquattro scored eight.

Byron-Bergen lost to Attica on Wednesday in Boys Basketball 66-51.

• Greece-Athena beat Batavia 68-52. Carter Mullen scored 16 points for Batavia.
• Hornell beat Le Roy 57-47. Jean Agosto scored 17 points and had nine rebounds.

  Fillmore won the Warsaw Kiwanis Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, beating Pavilion in the final 73-38.

In the consolation game, Byron-Bergen lost to Warsaw 50-47.

Liam Campbell and Landon Stoddard each scored eight points in the final for the Gophers. For Fillmore, Jonah Blakek scored 31 points.

In the consolation game, Cody Carlson scored 17 points, and Cole DiQuattro scored 11 points.

The Byron-Bergen Bees are state champions in Girls Soccer for the first time in program history after a 1-0 overtime win against Stillwater.

Mia Gray scored the winning goal 32 seconds into overtime. Libby Starowitz had the assist.

The Bees came into the tournament as the #3 seed and beat the defending champions, the #1 seed.

Natalie Prinzi was named the NYS Outstanding Goalkeeper and Mia Gray won the Most Valuable Player award.

The Byron-Bergen Bees won its state championship semifinal against Burke Catholic on Saturday, 4-0.

The Bees play for the state championship on Sunday against Stillwater High School.

Byron-Bergen jumped to an early lead with a goal at 1:20 into the game. Riley Shallenberger scored on an assist from Mia Gray.

Bee's goalie Natalie Prinzi saved a penalty kick with 29:39 left in the first half.

Mia Gray scored the Bees' second goal with 25:00 minutes left in the first half.  Grace DiQuattro scored a goal 41 seconds later on an assist from Libby Starowitz.  

In the second half, Mia Gray scored the Bee's final goal, assisted by Grace DiQuattro, with 12:42 left in the game. 

Megan Jarkiewicz was awarded The Sportsmanship Award.

The Byron-Bergen Bees are once again driving deep into the postseason in Girls Soccer.

On Tuesday, the Bees beat Williamson 2-1 in the Class C crossover again to advance to the Far West Regionals.

Mia Gray and Grace DiQuattro each scored for the Lady Bees.  Lauren Schmeelk scored for the Marauders.  

The regional championship is at 11 a.m. Saturday against Williamsville East at Frewsburg.

The Byron-Bergen Bees lost a hard-fought match against East Rochester in a bid to reclaim their sectional title.

The Bees final score was 3-2.
