Anthony F. Fazio, 85 of Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Batavia, died October 24, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. He was born March 14, 1926 in Batavia to the late Frank (Rose Scalia) Fazio. Mr. Fazio was a member of Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church and the former St. Nicholas Club. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He worked at Doehler Jarvis, GTE Sylvania, and lastly as an Inspector for the New York State Racing and Wagering Board. Mr. Fazio loved baseball, coaching Little League and was an avid New York Yankee fan. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Filomena (Dattoli) Fazio (2005); granddaughters Cristine Marie, Cara Rose Fazio and brother Nathan Fazio.

He is survived by two sons Frank Fazio of Palm Beach, FL; James (Nicolina) Fazio of Batavia; grandsons James and Ryan Fazio of Batavia; along with several nieces and nephews.

Lon Midkiff, Jr., 81 of Batavia, died peacefully Saturday evening (October 22, 2011) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Batavia.

He was born in Salt Rock, West Virginia on April 26, 1930, the son of the late Lon and Blanche Walker Midkiff.

Lon served with the U.S. Army and retired after a career of 22 ½ years of dedicated service.  He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was truly proud of his military service to his country.  In his spare time he enjoyed walleye fishing on Lake Erie, landscaping around his yard and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.  Most of all, he adored his loving family and held a high integrity towards life, always speaking the truth about matters.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nicola Copani Midkiff of Batavia.  Two sons, Michael Midkiff (Susan Connell) of Whitesboro, NY and Mark (Valerie) Midkiff of Anderson, SC.  Four grandchildren, Mitchell, Connor, Gianna and Aiden Midkiff.  A brother, Sherrill (Cora) Midkiff of Huntington, WV.  Two sisters, Janice Burns of Huntington, WV and Julie Carr of Lexington, VA.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Prayers will be Thursday at 8:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony Site).

Mildred S. Fabio, 93, of Batavia, died Friday (October 21, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia after a brief illness.

She was born in Buffalo, NY on January 24, 1918, a daughter of the late Ignatius and Katarzyna Samul.

Mildred was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.  Throughout the years she performed countless volunteer hours with the church lawn fete and bingo.  Devotion to her family and faith were her highest priority.  The countless acts of kindness and warmth to her family will always be remembered.

Surviving are two daughters and sons in law, Mary Ellen (David) Gear of Avon and Lori (Thomas) McJury of Fairport.  Three sons and four daughters in law, David and Judy Fabio of Amherst, Paul and Karen Fabio of Pauline, SC, Michael and Debbie Fabio of Pittsburgh, PA and Sherrie Fabio of Elba. A brother, Charles Samul.  Fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was the wife of the late Michael Fabio who died August 2, 2011, mother of the late Daniel C. Fabio who died in 2007 and also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Elaine M. Emasie, 92 of Batavia, died October 21, 2011 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born October 25, 1918 in East Pembroke to the late Seward Waldron and the late Helen Waldron Osborn. She was employed by Sylvania for 25 years. She began working for them the day they opened until the day they closed. Mrs. Emasie was a lifelong member of Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Church. Her hobbies which she loved doing were reading, puzzles, and crocheting. For years she donated afghans to the Genesee County Nursing Home.
        Elaine was a beautiful, loving, caring, honest lady who touched many people. Her family, friends, and all who knew her were lucky and blessed to share their lives with her. The words faith, family and friends have always described what was most important to Elaine. She will be greatly missed each and every day. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Anthony Emasie October 10, 1990, they were married when she was 16 years old. One brother, 3 sisters and 3 infant children also precede her in death. 

She is survived by 2 children, Marie (Nick) Tundo of Batavia; David (Linda) Emasie of Columbia, SC; 10 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren; brother Thomas (Jean) Waldron of Jefferson, OH; along with several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Age 89, of Batavia, died peacefully Thursday morning October 20, 2011 at Batavia Nursing Home in the Rehabilitation Unit. She was born July 8, 1922 in Batavia, daughter of the late Frank & Antoinette (DiPietro) DiMartino, also preceded in death by a brother Alfred DiMartino. She was a member of Resurrection Parish and worked for 39 years at Dohler-Jarvis. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, bingo, trips to the casino, reading and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Wyrwa loved family and the time spent with them, most of all the "light of her life" her cherished grandson Samuel.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 57 years Edward Wyrwa; loving daughters Diana Wyrwa and Maryann (Todd) Bowman; brother Anthony "Britt" (Providence) DiMartino and a sister Mary DiMartino; grandson samuel Bowman all of Batavia along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rochester - Phyllis C. Prill, 80, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday (October 19, 2011) at the Monroe Community Hospital.

Phyllis was born June 8, 1931,  in Corfu, a daughter of the late Erwin and Evelyn Smith Schurr. She was a member of the Eastern Star No. 314 in Rochester.
Phyllis was predeceased by her daughter Rosemary Schwarze and her son John Schwarze.

Survivors include her daughter Carolanne Schiro of Tampa, FL;  her brother Paul (Audrey) Schurr of Ada, MI; 4 nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and nephews.

Patricia A. “Sissy” Donley, 64 of Batavia, died October 16, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born March 30, 1947 in Batavia to the late Kenneth (Roslyn McBee) Sheehan.  Mrs. Donley was a homemaker who loved her family dearly. She was a lifetime member of the VFW post 1602 and the American Legion. 

She is survived by her husband of 43 years Stephen Donley, son Brian Donley of Batavia,  daughter Lori Ann Donley of Batavia, Brothers Robert (Bonnie) Sheehan of Batavia, Gary Sheehan of Florida, Michael Sheehan of Tennessee, and Francis Sheehan of Batavia, and a sister Bridget (Lee) Berkowitz of Florida.

     Age 78, of Basom, died Tuesday morning October 18, 2011 at the Batavia Nursing Home. She was born June 26, 1933 in Batavia, daughter of the late Clarence & Mary (Panek) Sumeriski, also preceded in death by her son Richard B. Wyder Jr. A member of St. Padre Pio Parish, Mrs. Wyder will be remembered as a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother.

     Surviving is her beloved husband of 58 years Richard B. Francis E.Dahill, Ph.D., age 74, of Akron died suddenly Thursday, (Oct. 13, 2011) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

He was born in Hornell, NY on March 5, 1937, a son of the late Dr. Edmond and Lillian McGuane Dahill.

Surviving is his wife of over 47 years, Brenda E. (Dubiel) Dahill. His daughter, Christine Dahill of Akron and grand daughter Felicia Fortunato of Akron.

Fran was a psychologist for Maryvale Sr. High School in Cheektowaga for over 12 years prior to his retirment in 1999. Prior to that, he served for 20 years as guidance counselor at Maryvale.  He served on the Akron Central School Board for 3 years and was a member of the Budget Advisory and Strategic Planning Committees.

In his earlier years he served as an altar boy at his church and worked summers at Letchworth State Park.  He attended Alfred Tech, Oswego State and SUNY @ Buffalo having received his Masters in Education and Doctorate of Philosophy in Education.

In his leisure time he enjoyed playing guitar in Akron and Clarence Churches and participated in Folk Groups.  He enjoyed his family immensely as well living in his country home. Reading, woodworking, motor coach tours, and dancing were just a few of his many past times.  He was concerned about many aspects of society and how our society influences people's beliefs and behavior, committed to public education and its improvement.

His many memberships include, The Woodworkers Guild, WNY State School Psychologists Assoc., Phi Delta Kappa International, Epsilon Pi Tau, Niagara Frontier and NYS Reading Associations. He was active in the Newstead Historical Society and Newstead Senior Citizens.

Joan A. Hahn, 74, of Clarence Center, passed away peacefully October 10, 2011 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

She was born January 28, 1937 in Newstead, NY to the late Charles and Birdie Ludecker.

Joan had a love for flowers and owned the former Flowers & More in Clarence Center.  She was also very active within the Clarence Center Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hahn and son in-law, Doug Monks.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Lawrence (Pam) Penvose of N. Canton, OH. Two daughters, Peggy Monks of Newstead and Debbie (Herman) Redman of West Jefferson, OH.  Eight grandchildren, Charles, Andrew, John and Lauren Penvose, Karie (William) Bellezza, Melissa Monks, Aaron and Derrek Coleman.  Great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Monks. Sister, Joyce Mooers of Clarence. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Walsh was born 68 years ago in Attica to the late Ralph and Marion (Tapp) Bruggman. She was retired from Golden Coin Laundry and was an active participant in the activities at the Genesee County Nursing Home where she had resided the past few years. She was preceded in death by a sister Elaine Burg.

She is survived by two sons Jeffrey (Cheryl) Walsh of Bethany and Timothy (Beth) Walsh of Batavia. One brother Clyde (Diane) Bruggman of Attica, a brother in law Roger (Debbie) Burg of Arizona survive along with 4 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph A. DiLaura, 88 of Batavia, died October 8, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born May 3, 1923 in Batavia to the late Angelo (Angeline Tazzano) DiLaura. Mr. DiLaura worked for Laborers Union #435 in Rochester prior to his retirement. He was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), the Veness Strollo Post #1602 and the former St. Nicholas Social Club.
            Sailor Joe, as he was known by many, was a 20 year Veteran in the United States Navy, serving in WWII and the Korean War. A man of the “Greatest Generation” Mr. DiLaura saw action in eleven major battles of WWII. He was a part of the Pacific and the Atlantic Theaters, the invasion of North Africa and the invasion of Okinawa where he served aboard the flagship, U.S.S. Bunker Hill (CV 17). The aircraft carrier Bunker Hill was the survivor of 2 kamikaze hits where 400 men were lost while engaged in the infamous “Turkey Shoot” on 11 May 1945.
             Joseph Andrew DiLaura was the recipient of many decorations, medals, and ribbons including the Presidential Unit Citation (1-star), WWII Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Area (1-star), Asiatic-Pacific Area (9-stars), and the Philippine Liberation (1-star). During his career in the Navy he truly had been around the horn, literally, and always proud to have served his country.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Thomas and Frank Minuto, James and Angelo DiLaura and a sister Lena Cutitta.
                                                                                                                        
He is survived by his wife Rose (Schiavi) DiLaura of Batavia sons Joseph J.(Marianne) DiLaura, Daniel (Ann Marie) DiLaura of Batavia; daughters Angela A. DiLaura of Ft. Collins CO and Laurie Ann (Max) Sheer of Caledonia. One sister Celia Klein, a sister in law Virginia DiLaura both of Batavia survive along with 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Donald E. Parker, 87 of Silver Springs died October 9, 2011 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw. He was born in Albion, New York on March 23, 1924 to the late Charles A. (Leona Handy) Parker. Mr. Parker is a WWII Navy Veteran and member of the American Legion. He was a member of St. Isidore’s Parish-St. Mary’s Church in Silver Springs and the Castile Historical Society. Mr. Parker loved to travel with his wife. He is preceded in death by a sister Peggy Meyers.  

He is survived by his loving wife Catherine A. (Merlo) Parker of Silver Springs; sons Donald A. (Melinda) of Perry Center; Richard E. (Cindy) Parker of Castile; brother Charles (Suzanne) Parker of East Rochester; 5 grandchildren Donald J. Parker; Trisha M. (Sean) Atwood; Anthony Parker; Stephen Parker; Alexsandra Isabella; 1 great-grandson Donald A. Parker; along with several nieces and nephews.

Age 92, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday evening October 9, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 26, 1918 in Oakfield, son of the late John & Theresa Vaiter, also preceded in death by a brother Tom; sisters Anna and Angie Vaiter. Mr. Vaiter was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's) and worked for many years at Batavia Metal Products. He had a love for animals, enjoyed Bingo, horse races and was a collector of clocks. Andy has a passion for carpentry, always tinkering with things or building something original.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 46 years Rose (Syracuse) Vaiter of Batavia and a sister Helen Oles of Oakfield along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronald G. (58) and Cheryl L. (51) Ozzimo of Castile, died October 6, 2011 in Java from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Ron was born February 16, 1953 and Cheryl was born February 8, 1960 both in Warsaw. Ron’s parents are the late Grego (Lena Cicero) Ozzimo. Cheryl’s parents are Walter (Dorothy Snow) Montelone of Perry. Ron worked for the Rochester Laborers Local 435 and Cheryl worked at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. Ron was a newly found gardener and cook. Cheryl enjoyed arts and crafts, and entertaining her family every Sunday for dinner. They both loved their children and granddaughter dearly.

They are survived by children Jessica L. (Derek) Mellenthine of Rochester; Ronald G., Jonathan M. Ozzimo of Castile; Granddaughter Mikayla Mellenthine of Rochester; Cheryl’s siblings Walter (Cindy) Montelone of LeRoy; Michelle (Jeff) Osman of Kennedy; Jill (Jon) Sheffield of Perry; Ron’s brothers Sal Ozzimo of Perry; Peter Ozzimo of Dansville; along with many nieces and nephews also survive.
