Harvey E. Griffin “Gene”, 75 of East Pembroke, NY, passed away Friday (January 24, 2020) at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

He was born December 23, 1944 in Caledonia, NY, a son of the late Mollie (Charles) Minor and Fredrick (Goldie) Griffin Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Paula Griffin. Gene leaves to mourn his children, Keith (DeOnn) Griffin of N. Carolina, Kenneth (Carolyn) Griffin of Batavia and Tammy Griffin of East Pembroke. Also survived by 11 siblings, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Parker; sister, Mary Griffin and brothers, Fredrick, Benjamin, Gordon and James Griffin and Arthur Minor.

Tosca Ida Biscaro of Akron, NY and Boynton Beach, FL passed peacefully in San Ramon, CA on Monday evening, January 13, 2020.

She was born on June 24, 1929 in Clarence Center, NY one of five children to the late Carlo and Dora Biscaro.

After high school she moved to NYC where she attended Traphagen School of Design to become a dress designer and began work at Singer Corporation. She then worked in the medical field as a secretary until her retirement to Florida. She loved spending time with her family and friends, working in the garden growing flowers and vegetables, and later in life returned to enjoy one of her original hobbies as a child, creating dress designs for paper dolls.

She was predeceased by her sister Elda (Biscaro) Burton and her nephew Renato Macor.

Survivors include sisters, Lina (Biscaro) Macor and Louise (Biscaro) Rusnak; brother, Carlo Biscaro; brother in-law, Ed Rusnak; her niece, Vicky (Rusnak) Mikell and nephew, Ed Rusnak all formerly from Akron. Other nieces and nephews include John Burton, Jeff Burton, Paul Macor, Peter Macor, Anna (Macor) Palma, Matthew Biscaro and Nina (Biscaro) Lota.

Family and friends are invited on Friday, July 3rd at 10:00 am for a Celebration of Life at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church at 5771 Buell Street, Akron. Followed by interment at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery and a gathering at the family home in Akron.

Barbara Ann Faltisco Litfin, 86 of Akron NY, entered into rest Wednesday (January 15, 2020) at Hospice Buffalo.

She was born in Buffalo NY at Deaconess Hospital, a daughter of the late Helena Garbacz and Joseph Faltisco.

The longtime owner of Barbara Ann’s Bridal Salon in Akron was a well known custom dress maker and designer. After retirement, her lifelong compassion for the love of animals directed her to the breeding and raising of Yorkshire terriers and started Watson Kennels.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Kenneth Litfin in 1994 and George Watson in 2007 and mother of the late Bruce Litfin in 2011.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth (Carol) Litfin of Clarence Center and Gary (Susan) Litfin of Cheektowaga. Daughter, Suzzane (Joseph) Corona of Batavia. Grandchildren, Michael Litfin, David Litfin, Jill Jarocki, Jesse Litfin, Josh Perry, Ethan Perry and Matthew Perry. Great-grandchildren, Mila, Lola and Zachary.

Lauren C. Whiting “Cuppy”, 95 of Clarence Center, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday (January 25, 2020) at his residence while under care of Hospice.

Lauren was born in Downers Grove Illinois, February 9, 1924, a son of the late Theo and Laura Grey Whiting.

At the age of 16 the family moved to Akron New York. After attending Akron High School, Lauren joined the US Navy to serve in the war effort. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer as a motor mechanic aboard an LST and received several invasion battle ribbons from actions in the Pacific.  After returning from service he got a job at the Buffalo Transit company. In 1952 he joined the family company.

In 1953 the Whiting family (Theo, Donald and Lauren) manufactured custom garage doors. An inquiry was made to determine if the company could produce a roll-up door for trucks.  The industry was born and Whiting is now the premier manufacturer of roll-up doors for the transportation industry worldwide. Still a family owned enterprise headquartered in Akron New York (except for a brief period in the 1970’s as a subsidiary of the Apache Corporation) Whiting’s have expanded their product offerings to the construction and shipbuilding industries. Lauren served the company in many capacities and continued to make significant contributions until his retirement in 2018.

In 2000 Lauren pursued a dream of returning a WWII vintage LST to the United States as a floating museum in commemoration of his service in the Pacific theatre aboard one of the “Long Slow Targets”.  He and 28 other septuagenarians found a retired LST 325 in Crete. This ship had been decommissioned by the Greek Navy after having also served the US Navy in the European theatre.  The project included returning the aging ship to “sea-worthy” condition and sailed it to the port of Mobile Alabama in January of 2001.  The voyage made national news when the US Coast Guard suggested that the voyage should not be made and warned of severe consequences if the ship made an un-authorized trip to the United States.  The LST 325 has since been berthed in Evansville Indiana and makes annual voyages as the floating museum the “Gold Crew” envisioned.

Survivors include his children, Theo (Michael) Abraham of Kingston, NH, Steven C. (Delia) Tee of Barker NY, Robert (Phyllis) Whiting of Akron, NY, James C. (Christine) Tee of Medina, NY, Rodney (Luanne) Whiting of Lyndonville, NY, Nancy (Timothy) Girard of Clarence, NY and Alice (John) Worrall of Mount Wolf, PA. Sister, Laura Mattioli of Akron, NY.  Twenty two grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren also survive.

He is predeceased by his wife of over 48 years, Alice Marie Whiting, who died August 18, 2012; Siblings, Donald Whiting, Theodore Whiting, William Whiting and Ruth Fisher, Virginia Bushammer and Theo Kronen.

Nicholas D’Aurizio Jr., 87, of Batavia passed away on January 23, 2020 at the NYS Veterans Home at Batavia surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 29, 1932 in Batavia to the late Nicholas and Teresa (Tiberio) D’Aurizio Sr. In addition to his parents, Nicholas is predeceased by his son; Joseph D’Aurizio; sister and brother in law Mary (Alex) Neubert.

After completion of Batavia High School & Metal Trades Vocational School, Nicholas served as a Personnel Supervisor for four years in the US Air Force during the Korean War. In his professional life, he was a foreman for over twenty years at Owens-Illinois Glass Factory formerly of Brockport, NY. Nicholas retired from Hodgins Engraving in Batavia. 

Nicholas was a creative, intelligent and curious man who made an indelible impression on those that he met. He was known for his quick wit and one-liners that always brought appreciative and unexpected chuckles. He had many interests from hunting and fishing as a young man, to a voracious reader of biographies of classic movie stars, an avid Western movie watcher, a builder of intricate model ships. His two boston terriers, Popeye & Olive Oyl, brought him great joy. Nick was a memorable individual who never failed to create a strong impression in a brief period of time. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his children; Nicholas D’Aurizio III of Sulpher Springs, OK., Teresa (Daniel Ritzenthaler) D’Aurizio of Napa, CA., and Michael D’Aurizio of Orchard Park; brothers Frank (Jenny) D’Aurizio and Anthony (Connie) D’Aurizio both of Batavia; a granddaughter Gemma D’Aurizio of Orchard Park, ex-spouse Robin D’Aurizio, along with many close friends, nieces and nephews.

A 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday January 28^th at Resurrection Parish 303 East Main St. in Batavia. Susan Borgal Serinis, 71, of Oakfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Serinis (Michael Moore, Jr.), Heather Serinis, Victoria Collier, and her grandchildren, Serenity Fox, Veronica Fox, Matthew Dixon, Micah Collier, Marianna Collier; brother, John (Doreen) Borgal; sisters Patricia (Vernon) Kelly and Mary Dix, and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Victor Serinis; parents, Emerson J. Borgal and Florence D. Borgal; and brother, David Mead.

Susan was born on Dec. 5, 1948 to Florence and Emerson. From the time she graduated from High School until the day she retired, she was a nurse. She fondly shared the memory of meeting Victor. She was an allergy nurse for Victor’s mother, and she insisted that she meet her son. She spent most of her nursing career as a nurse with the VA Medical Center in Batavia, New York. She was one of the first PTSD nurses when the program opened in Batavia, and she took a lot of pride in helping the Veterans during their recovery.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia’s Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Burial will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Oakfield, with a luncheon to follow at the fellowship hall at St. Cecilia’s Church in Oakfield.

  Alfred L. Feeney, formerly of Attica, passed away with his family by his side on January 22, 2020 in Peachtree, Ga. He was born in Worcester, MA on November 02, 1928 to the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Ryan) Feeney. He was the youngest of seven children.  Al was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jean (Holahan) Feeney on March 16, 2019.

Al graduated from Case Western Reserve in 1953 and served in Japan with the United States Air Force from 1954-1957. He was a Little All American football player and was inducted to the Case Western Reserve Hall of Fame in 1987. He started his civilian career as a Physical Education teacher and coach.  His 1957-58 Jasper High School basketball team won the Section V Class D title.  He became a Guidance Counselor at Attica High School in 1962 and served as Principal from 1964 - 1991.  .

Al was proudest of his family and loved to brag about their accomplishments. Many a referee, coach, or teacher got his input on how they could do better by his kids. Like many of his era, he went without so that his kids could have more. Al touched the lives of many people in Attica and beyond. Many of his former students credit him with being a big part of their success.

Alfred is survived by his children, Sean (Kate), Margaret, Elizabeth (Phyllis), Kevin (Dana), and Timothy (Karyn) Feeney; grandchildren, Claire Feeney, Allison (Brian) Kinard, Tyler, Ben, Kaden, Kole, Trey, and Maggie Feeney; great granddaughter, Greer Kinard.

A Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main St., Attica, NY 14011. . A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Sts. Batavia - Esther M. Toal, 86, of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing At Batavia.

Esther was born August 26, 1933, in Mt. Morris, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Jacobus) Zaso.

Esther was a cafeteria worker for Batavia City Schools and also worked at the former J.J. Newberry's in Batavia.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Toal of Batavia; children, Paula (David) Bromsted of Batavia, Linda (Richard) McSherry of Syracuse, Brenda (Steven) Grice of Culpeper, VA, Sandra (Robert) Hiscutt of Alexander, William Toal of Oakfield and Sheila (Todd) Shamp of Oakfield; a brother, Joseph (Jean) Zaso of Batavia; a brother-in-law, Donald (Betty) Toal of Nevada; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Batavia First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street in Batavia, where services will be held at 5:00 p.m. also on Sunday.   Esther will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

STAFFORD - Martha Ruth Thom, 39, of Stafford, passed away Wednesday, (January 22, 2020), surrounded by her loving family.

Martha was born November 14, 1980, in Brockport, a daughter of David E. and Debra (VanDuser) Thom of Byron.

She attended Northgate Free Methodist Church and enjoyed outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, boating, and gardening.  She liked crafts and country music, but most of all she cherished time spent with her family and cooking with her daughter, Peyton. 

Surviving along with her parents is her daughter, Peyton Goebert at home; partner, John Goebert of Stafford; brothers Matthew (Kristen) Thom of Holley, and David (Danielle) Thom of Bergen; her maternal grandmother Ruth VanDuser of Bergen; her paternal grandmother Norma Thom of Holley.  Several nieces and nephews along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Martha is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Gordon VanDuser; and her paternal grandfather, Norm Thom.

At Martha's request, there will be no visitation.  Family and Friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life to be held at 12:00 noon on Friday (January 31, 2020) at Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road in Batavia.  Private burial will be in White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford.

Batavia - Chris Churchill Zastrocky, 66, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Chris was born July 17, 1953, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Donald and Freida (Hale) Churchill.

Chris will be remembered as a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her cat and dog and doing yard work.  She was a member of the Twins Club in Bergen.

Survivors include her children, Thomas Zastrocky, Jr. of LeRoy, Timothy (Jennifer) Zastrocky of Bergen, Crystal Zastrocky of Rochester, Todd Zastrocky of Byron, Adam (Katelyn) Zastrocky of LeRoy and Aaron Zastrocky of Batavia; two sisters, Vicky Churchill of Buffalo and Valerie "Charlie" (Jim) Northup of Byron; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Chris is the mother of the late Jason Sullivan.

EAST BETHANY - Sath P. Dhanda, 39, of East Bethany, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, (January 19, 2020).

Sath was born April 6, 1980, in Warsaw, a son of Ann M. (Mullen) Dhanda of East Bethany and the late Dr. S. Paul Dhanda.

He was an avid sports fan and golfer.  Sath greatly enjoyed cooking, trivia, watching Jeopardy, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Surviving along with his mother are his brothers, Vijay (fiance Jullian Messina) Dhanda of FL, and Shan Dhanda of East Bethany; a step-sister, Dr. Paula (John Clark) Dhanda of CA; an aunt, Mary A. "Meme" Mullen of Batavia, uncles, Robert (Laura) Mullen of Batavia, Richard (June) Mullen of Byron, and William (Joyce) Mullen of Brockport; several nieces and nephews including Vijay P. Dhanda, Jr., Kyla Dhanda, Izabella Fantz, Amber Dems, and Jasmin Clark; a dear friend, Janet Polzin of Akron.  Many cousins also survive.

Sath is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Mullen; and a nephew, John Paul Clark,

LeRoy ~ Peter A. Wyskiel, age 70, of West Main Street, passed away at home unexpectedly on Saturday, January 18, 2020.

    

He was born December 20, 1949 in Manchester, N.H., a son of the late Joseph and Georgette Langlois Wyskiel.

     Peter will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was a proud veteran, having served over 11 years with the U.S. Air Force. He also enjoyed woodworking and photography.   

     He is survived by his children, Bryan (Sarah) Wyskiel of LeRoy,  Joshua (Melanie) Wyskiel of Caledonia, Tracy Moore (Brian Thornley) of LeRoy and Tim (Jennifer) Johnson of CO; 12 grandchildren; his sisters in law and brother in law, Joelene (David) Forrester, Barbara (Edward) Foley and Kenneth "Chip" (Christine) Smith II., along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Smith Wyskiel and his son, Steven K. Wyskiel.

Pavilion ~ Neva A. Hettrick, age 100, passed away Saturday evening (January 18, 2020) at the Highlands of Pittsford Living Center.

    

She was born August 10, 1919 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Williams Harmer.

     Neva lived in Byron before moving to Pavilion in the 1930's, where she eventually graduated from Pavilion Central School in 1937.  She married James Hettrick in 1940.  She liked to travel, crochet and work around her flower gardens.  Neva worked for Kemp & Rudgers service station as a bookkeeper and was a part-time postal clerk at the Pavilion Post Office.

     She is survived by her nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, James and her brother and his wife, Wesley and Ina Harmer.

     Services and interment in the Pavilion Cemetery will be private at the convenience of her family.

     Memorials are suggested to the Pavilion Fire Department.

James W. Wright, age 84, of Perry, NY passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born in Perry, NY on July 19, 1935 a son to the late Leslie H. and Doris E. (Watrous) Wright. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife: Joyce E. (Farley) Wright second wife: Marguerite T. (Hauslauer) Wright, sisters Betty Farley and Mary Kohring

Jim was a 1953 graduate of Perry High School. He went to work on the family farm raising corn, wheat, oats and alfalfa, He did custom planting, spraying, combining and silo filling for area farmers throughout Wyoming and Livingston County. In 1958 he purchased his own farm and continued to work with his father. He worked part time plowing snow for the Town of Perry and later became the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Perry in 1977. He retired from the town in 1997. He returned back to work working for Suit Kote in Buffalo where he was a lab technician and retired from there in 2013. He was very active in the community. He was a life member of the Perry Center Fire Department for over 50 years, he volunteered for the Perry Emergency Ambulance, appointed to the Town of Perry Zoning Board of Appeals, was a instructor for the hunter safety courses, and was a member of the Wyoming County Republican Committee, Wyoming County Highway Superintendents Association and Constellation Lodge #404 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, playing cards, making wine and especially enjoyed his family.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley (Litteer) Wright whom he married on July 9, 1994, 2 daughters: Linda (Michael) Palucki of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Colleen (Michael) Bradley of Dansville, 2 sons: Harold (Cindy) Wright and Chuck (Teresa) Wright both of Perry, 3 step-sons: Patrick (Traci) Wester of Pembroke, Jason (Becky) Bump of Pavilion, Derek (Karrie) Bump of Bethany, a sister: Lois Sliker of Leicester, brother: Lawrence (Linda) Wright of Albuquerque , New Mexico, 13 grandchildren: Jennifer (Todd) Shoemake, Kristi (Annie Giangrosso) Bradley, James Bradley, Eric Wright, Sara (Mark) Eberstein, Alex Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Austin Wester, Nick Wester, Nick Wood, Zach Wester, Maverick Bump, Mason Bump and Melanie Bump., 2 great grandchildren: Raeha Eberstein and Hailee Wester along with many nieces and nephews.

Thomas M. Perry, 73, of Attica, passed peacefully on January 18, 2020 at Crossroads House in Batavia, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers.  He was born in Batavia, NY on July 17, 1946 to the late Henry "Hank" and Lourene "Babe" (Mack) Perry.  He is predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen and Sheila.  

Tom retired from the Attica Post Office as a letter carrier and postmaster in 2001 after 38 years of service.   He is a retired United States Army Veteran- SPC5- serving in the 1st Cavalry Division as a helicopter gunner in Vietnam. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his service.   He was also an EMT for Marley Funeral Home Ambulance service.   He was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Roman Catholic Church, the Attica Historical Society, and the Attica Fire Department.  Tom was well known for his quick wit, not holding back, and telling it like it is.  He was an avid golfer who was very proud of getting a hole-in-one eight times.  He also enjoyed hunting with his son and grandson.  Additionally, he enjoyed fishing, coaching AYA baseball, and bowling in leagues at the Attica Lanes.  However, without question, his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren.  

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christine (Wysko) and his children, John (Julie) Perry and Kristin (Paul) Janes both of Attica. He is the proud grandfather of John (fiancé, Kirsten Smith), Meredith, Natalie, and Wesley Janes and grandpuppy Paisley.  

There are no prior visitations. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 12pm on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Ss.
