Corfu - Phyllis B. Fauth, 91, of Corfu, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the LeRoy Village Green.

Phyllis was born was on July 14, 1928 in Corfu, a daughter of the late Albert and Hazel Beach Herman. She was the wife of the late Clifford A. Fauth, mother of the late Russell D. Fauth and sister of the late Ruth Lennon Case.

Phyllis was a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church for over 77 years and the church secretary for over 35 years.
She was a member of the Genesee Country Button Club and longtime member of the Corfu Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Phyllis was a devoted Yankees fan and was happiest just spending time with her family.

Surviving are her children; Hazel (Charles) Barber, Bruce (Mary) Fauth, Phil (Lyn) Fauth and Jeff (Donna) Fauth; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; her brother, Charles A. (Patricia) Herman and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Friday, January 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street Corfu. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Jacob A. Lang, 36 of Batavia, passed away on January 28, 2020. He was born in Buffalo on October 5, 1983 to Ricky G. (Niki S. Tundo) Lang of Batavia. He is preceded in death by his twin brother Jason D. Lang.   

Jacob had a duel Master’s Degree in Sociology and History. He was dedicated to his work, extremely passionate about teaching and worked as a college professor for many years. Jacob was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish.

Jacob is survived by his parents, sister Brandi M. Smith of Buffalo, grandmother Marie Tundo, grandfather Nick Tundo both of Batavia, along with many nieces and nephews.

ROBERT M. STONE – Age 76, of Byron, died Monday January 20, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born October 25, 1943 in Rochester, NY to the late Robert and Mary (Menzie) Stone.

Bob worked as a butcher for various area markets, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, golfing and was an avid bowler.

He is survived by his children, Christine Fore and Scott Stone both of Byron, granddaughter, Nicole Fore of Buffalo, sister, Patricia (late David) Chupp of Byron, nieces, Paula (Don) Hohn, Roxanne (Joe) Noeth and nephew, Brian Chupp.

LYNN R. BROOKS - age 69, of East Bethany, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at Unity Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. Lynn was born March 2, 1950, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Donald Books of Attica, N.Y., and the late Corinne K. (Wiltberger) Brooks.

Lynn worked at the former Westinghouse Foundry in Attica and for 17 years at United Memorial Medical Center. He enjoyed trips to the casino, a sports enthusiast, including the Buffalo Sabres, and was a true Buffalo Bills fanatic!

Surviving along with his father are his siblings, Evelyn “Peach” (Ronald) Merrill of Alexander, Marty (Susan) Brooks of Vermont, Donna (Cliff) Bagg of Batavia, Morris (Phyllis) Brooks of Georgia, Terry (Ray Messecar) Saluste of Batavia, Kerry (Carrie DeMun) Brooks of Attica, along with several nieces and nephews.

Per Lynn’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill cemetery in Attica, N.Y., and memorials in his memory are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.

DIANNA L. RUMBLE ~ of Batavia, age 55, died unexpectedly Saturday January 18, 2020 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born in Batavia, NY on October 11, 1964, to the late Roland and Elizabeth (Andrews) Sprague.

Dianna worked at Walmart in Batavia and was a member of Godfrey’s Pond. She had a love for the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, camping always with her dog, Tundra in tow.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, Randy Rumble of Batavia; loving children, Randy (Amanda) Rumble of E. Bethany, Jeffrey Sprague of MA, Heather Gawlik of E. Amherst, Patrick Rumble of Oakfield, 6 grandchildren, siblings, Pamela (Scott) Milner of MA, Douglas Sprague of Batavia, Ronald (Michelle) Sprague of E. Bethany, Rebecca (Gene) Day of Alexander, Penny Sprague of Lockport, Jackie (Larry) Long of FL, John Sprague of Oakfield along with many nieces and nephews.

JOHN W. HOPKINS ~ Age 69, of Rochester, NY died Friday January 17, 2020 at the Monroe Community Hospital. He was born in Batavia, NY on December 21, 1950 to the late John E. Hopkins and Rosemary (Schultz) Warboys.

John served his country honorably with the elite Old Guard, serving as a Sentinel at The Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington National Cemetery, his time also included service at the White House. John worked for Kaplan Container in Rochester and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Surviving is his longtime companion, Amy Franklin; siblings, Daniel (Laurie) Hopkins of Elba, Michael (Linda) Warboys of Oakfield, Cathy (late Larry) Kirkpatrick of FL, Laurie (Jerry) Fry, Susan (James) Brion, Janet (Mike) Borkholder all of Oakfield along with many nieces and nephews.

MARIE ELOISE GIFFORD ~ Age 88, of Byron, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday January 5, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Marie was born to Riley and Minerva (Appleton) Parson on May 8, 1931 on a houseboat on the Little Wabash River in New Haven, Illinois.

Marie was a 1949 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School in Fortville, Indiana, as well a graduate of the Lockyear Business College in Evansville, Indiana and the Continental School of Beauty in Rochester, New York. In 1952, she met Conrad Gifford while working at Camp Breckinridge in Morganville, Kentucky. After a three-week courtship, they married and spent the next sixty-six years together. Marie traveled through almost every state in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and countless European countries. Along with her husband, she owned and operated many successful local businesses before her retirement, including the Golden Clip, Golden Hair Pin, Golden Coin Laundromat and Golden Mobile Home Park. Marie loved playing mahjong, reading, and her dachshund, Rusty. She had sparkling blue eyes and loved telling a good joke.

Marie is survived by her husband, Conrad Gifford, Sr. of Byron, her son, Conrad (Margaret) Gifford, Jr. of Pavilion, NY, her daughter, Colleen Lamie of Elba, NY, her sister, Ruth Collen (Mark) Finks of McLean, VA, grandchildren, Chelsie Lamie (David Alfonso) of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, Bradley Lamie (Alex Wood) of Elba, NY and Callista (Jason) DeHart of Grovetown, GA and three great-grandchildren, Michael Alfonso, Henry Alfonso and Brody Ace.

Per family wishes funeral services will be held privately and Marie will be laid to rest in the Western New York National Cemetery upon its completion, memorials in her memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Oakfield/Byron - James F. Moore, Sr., age 93, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Batavia.

Jim was born December 3, 1926, in Jewel, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Cyrus and Rose Lantz Moore.

In 1945, Jim fibbed his age "a little" to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Ocean.

On September 7, 1946 he married the love of his life, Helen A. Fulmer. They would have celebrated 74 years of marriage. Out of 73 years of marriage they had three children; James F. (Penny) Moore, Jr. of Appleton, Kenneth (Cheryl) Moore of Elba and Helen (Howard) Austin of Batavia.

"Old Pap" was also very proud of his six grandchildren; Tammy (Michael) Boudreau, Jim III (Amy) Moore, Jeffery (Carrie), Michael, Jason (Kim) and Kimberly Austin. He also had twelve great-grandchildren; Haley, Kylie and Mackenzie Moore, Tyler and Gracie Boudreau, Cameron, Ava, Abigail, Allison, Liam and Brycen Austin and Brynn Peters. He is also survived by his wonderful brother-in-law, Edward Kastelic who was his coal mining and New York Yankees buddy along with many nieces and nephews.

He missed his little four legged kid, Killer.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, William (Imogene), Jack (Judy) and John Moore; sisters, Minnie, Mae and Ruth Moore, Carrie (Wilburn) Helman, Dorothy Davis, Betty Kastelic and Jean (Ron) Gibson and his brother-in-law, Dean (Edith) Fulmer.

Jim worked as a coal miner at several mines in Pennsylvania and then at the U.S. Gypsum Co. in Oakfield for over 35 years.

Upon retirement, he and his bride did a lot of traveling around the United States with their friends. Jim was a life member of the Oakfield Rod and Gun Club and American Legion Post 626 for over 45 years. He was a member of the IOOB's, Oakfield Chapter where he held all their offices. Jim bowled on several leagues and in his younger years he loved to hunt, fish, pitch horseshoes and play baseball, softball and golf. He and mom wintered for many years in Silver Springs, Florida where he had a hole-in-one.

Friends may call from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where services will immediately follow visitation at 6 p.m. Rev. James Renfrew will be officiating. Burial, with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cary Cemetery in Oakfield. Hinsdale, NY Jason Kenneth Oakley, 42, of Sherlock Hollow Rd., passed away Friday (January 24, 2020) at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI after a long illness. 
Born July 1, 1977 in Bossier City, LA, he was the son of Kenneth and Carol Oakley, currently of Batavia and Jan Brewington, currently of Seffner, FL. On August 2, 2014 in Hinsdale he married Michelle "Shellie" Clark who survives. 

Jason was a 1995 graduate of Hinsdale Central School. In 1999 he enlisted in the US Army where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving with the 9th battalion, with four of those years as a Calvary Scout. He fought the war on terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Bosnia and received the Purple Heart for his injuries. 
After his return home, he served a term as commander of the Hinsdale American Legion and later as the commander of the Cattaraugus County American Legion. Jason most enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his kids. 

Surviving in addition to his wife Michelle, and his parents, are 5 children Kaili Morris of Buffalo, Haeven Clark, Rylie Manring, Warren Oakley and Nora Oakley, all of Olean; 1 sister Andrea (Adam Rose) Oakley of Olean; a nephew Dylan Oakley; a niece Alexus Fisk and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He was predeceased by a son Kristian Oakley; a stepfather Robert Brewington; paternal grandparents James W. and Sibyl Oakley; and his maternal grandparents Everett and June Edgar. 
The family will be present to receive friends on Monday (Feb 3, 2020) from 3-5pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A memorial service will begin at 5pm in the funeral home. Rev. Bruce Levine, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Curry Cemetary, Wilkesville Ohio. A reception will be held at the Hinsdale American Legion, beginning at 6pm. All are invited

LeRoy ~ Veronica G. Piraino, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday morning (January 27, 2020) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

    

She was born May 28, 1927 in Mt. Morris, N.Y., a daughter of the late Dominic and Rosina DeMarco Trubia.

     Family meant everything to her.  She loved time spent with them where she was able to cook and bake for everyone.  She just cherished her granddaughters and all her great-grandchildren.  She was active in her church, where she participated in the choir and also did volunteer work throughout her community.

     She is survived by her sons, Peter (Sue) Piraino of Rochester and David (Debbie) Piraino of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Michele Piraino of Rochester; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin), Christine (Brian), Carolyn (Jim), Monica (Dan), Amy (Nicholas) and Amanda (Curtis); 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lucretia Trubia Zamejc, her dearest friend, Vicki Paladino,  along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, John B. Piraino, son, John Piraino Jr. and granddaughter, Kimberly Piraino-Miller.

     Veronica's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to everyone at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home for the care and compassion they provided to both their mom and their dad.

BATAVIA - Robert Hutton, 77, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (January 22, 2020), at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hutton was born December 12, 1942, a son of the late Samuel W. and Mary (LaRock) Hutton.

Robert was a member of the Oakfield Community Bible Church and could often be found at Settler's Restaurant.  Bob was a long time county employee having retired from the Highway Department.  He enjoyed oil painting - especially old barns.  Bob would often take rides to locate and photgraph old barns.  He will be remembered as a great story teller.  

Bob is survived by his close friends, Michael (Pam) Goodrich, and Corky Campbell both of Batavia, and Joe (Mary) Ammiratti of West Batavia. 

He is preceded in death by one brother, John Hutton.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (January 31, 2020) at the St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert's memory may be made to Oakfield Community Bible Church.

LeRoy / Florida ~ Edward P. Longhany, age 92, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at his residence in Florida.

    

 He was born February 24, 1927 in Batavia, N.Y., a son of the late Peter and Lucy Stephanie Longhany.

     Ed graduated from LeRoy High School and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Shortly after serving his country, Ed joined the New York State Police, where he served proudly in many capacities for 26 years, retiring as a senior homicide and narcotics detective working out of Henrietta, N.Y.  He eventually went on to serve his community of LeRoy as Town Justice for 8 years and was also involved in numerous civic organizations.

     He is survived by his children, Edward (Pat) Longhany of Wade, NC, Gary Longhany of Wade, NC, Luanne (Wes) Chestang of Bay Minette, AL and Ron (Betsy) Longhany of Felton, DE; sister-in-law, Bridie Longhany; 9 grandchildren, along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lil of 49 years and 5 siblings.

Mary Jane Reding, 98, of Attica, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020. She was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Timothy G. and the late Mary (Doll) Hatch. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Richard on October 29, 2021, and her sons, Martin Carr and Gregory Reding.

Mary Jane is survived by her daughter, Laurie Miller, daughter-in-law, Peach Carr of Tennessee, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main St., Attica, NY 14011. . A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Sts. Joachim & Anne Roman Catholic Church, 50 East Ave. in Attica, NY.  Burial will be in St Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica, NY.

Corfu - Donna J. Stocking, 81, of Corfu, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 26, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia, with her family by her side.

Donna was born June 3, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John McJury and Sadie (Gilbank) McJury Law. She was the mother of the late John Stocking.

Donna was the owner and operator of Lazy S Tack Shop in Corfu for 35 years. She had a great love of horses. 

Donna is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Robert C. Stocking, whom she married on June 2, 1956; her children, Robbie (Donna) Stocking and Tracy (Mark) Fraterrigo; her sister, Helen Cummings; daughter-in-law, Paula Stocking; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends may call Thursday, January 30th from 3 to 7 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.

YORK - Larry E. McClurg paased away on January 24, 2020, at age 69. Predeceased by his parents, Chester and Ruth McClurg, brother, Lewis McClurg, father-in-law, Bob McMcClurg and brother-in- law, David McClurg. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dorothy, brother James (Pamela) McClurg, sisters Debra (Henry) Gorczynski, Cindy (Ginny Weisel) McClurg, Mother in law Betty McClurg, sisters in law Doreen (Dan) Snider, Marlene McClurg, many nieces and nephews. 
Larry retired from the York Highway Dept. He was the past assistant chief of the York Fire Dept. and member of the York Sportsman Club. Larry enjoyed camping, Nascar racing, and restoring antique tractors.
