ATTICA - Raymond M. Follett, 66, of Attica, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Raymond was born August 19, 1952, in Batavia, the son of the late Raymond M. and Jean (Wojtacha) Follett.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY Brockport and was an Instructor's Assistant at the NYS School for the Blind in Batavia, prior to retiring in 2016.  Raymond was a 3rd Degree Knight with Council 2240, Wyoming County Knights of Columbus at St. Joachim and Anne Church where he was an active participant in the clothing drive.  He was a member of the NYS Teacher’s Association, was an avid Yankees fan, enjoyed hockey, gardening and was at home in the out of doors.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Darlene (Cupicha) Follett of Attica, whom he married on October 19, 1985; a daughter, Sara Jean (David) Pollock of Batavia; a son, Daniel (Brooke) Follett of Batavia; a sister, Kathleen Follett of Glenden Beach OR; and a beloved niece, Maura Cupicha of Wyoming.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St. in Batavia. Raymond's Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Parish's - St. Joseph's Church, 303 E. Main St., Batavia with Fr. Ivan Trujilio officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Audrey B. Mosier, 89, who resided at Genesee Heights Estates in Corfu, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Audrey was born on February 16, 1930 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Orlo and Alta Hamilton Berg. She was the wife of the late Clayton Mosier and grandmother of the late Alan Mosier. Audrey’s friend, Clyde Starkweather, with whom she resided, passed away in December 2011.

Audrey is survived by her four children; Daryl (Laurie) Mosier of Williamsburg, VA, Rodney (Debra) Mosier of Elba, Paulette (the late Dennis) Vail of Tucson, AZ and Michele (Robert) Daniel of Akron. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and her sister JoAnn (Wally) Wickings of Batavia. 

As per Audrey’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Private services at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403 Batavia, NY 14021.

Joann M. Szymanski, 70 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday morning ( July 30, 2019) at home with her loving sisters by her side.

She was born September 7, 1948 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Szymanski.

She attended ARC Day Hab, where she made numerous Friends including loving Aides. Joann loved to spend her spare time at the lake with family and friends. She enjoyed watching television with her favorite shows including I Love Lucy, Waltons, Little House on The Prairie and other older tv programs on TMC. She will be sadly missed as she touched so many hearts.

She is preceded in death by her parents, aunt Rose Bachulak and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by two sisters, Jeanette “Sam” Szymanski and Theresa Szymanski, both of Batavia. Nephew, Christopher (Jackie) Downs. Also survived by aunts and several cousins.

PORTSMOUTH - Sheryl Jean Gordon (Nee McCracken), 57, went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. She was born in Rochester, NY on February 10, 1962. She graduated from Byron-Bergen Central School in 1980 and was the first in her family to earn a bachelor’s degree in 1986. She was predeceased by her father, Ronald E. McCracken, and brother-in-law, D. Lee Davis.

Sheryl taught school in Rochester, NY until 1990 when she moved to Chesapeake, VA area where she taught at Greenbrier Christian Academy. In 1997 she joined Scott Taylor Pastering, Inc., where she was office manager for over 20 years. She married Paul Gordon on May 19, 2007 and they attended Freedom Baptist Church in Chesapeake. Sheryl received Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 10 and remained wholly devoted to her Lord her entire life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Gordon; mother, Beverly (Eugene) Fee McCracken Widdowson; mother-in-law, Sandra (Ron) West; son, Angelo Gordon; sisters, Patricia McCracken Davis, Cathleen (Ken) Worthington, Lori-Beth (Mark) Woodruff, Lisa (Daniel) Rieks; brother-in-law, Grady Gordon; very dear special friends, Melanie, Scott, Andrew and Hannah Taylor; two grandchildren; twenty-two nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Batavia, NY on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 7 PM with a light reception prior at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 308 Centerville Turnpike North , Chesapeake, VA 23320 

 

Betty M. Smith, 87 of Palmetto, FL, formerly of Corfu, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, FL.  

She was born on September 19, 1931 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Carlos and Margaret Stoneham Hamilton.  She is also predeceased by her husband of 45 years Loran, son Rodney, and brother Bruce Hamilton.

Betty worked for M&T Bank in Corfu for 27 years before retiring and moving to Florida.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter Deborah Staebell (G Gonzalez), grandson Rodney “Chip” (Patty) Smith, daughter-in-law Jill Smith (Mike Mager), granddaughter Meghan Gallagher, sister-in-law Ellen Hamilton, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew.

Family will be present to greet friends on Saturday, August 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu, NY.  A memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

LAURA A. GRANT ~ Age 55, of Basom, died Friday June 28, at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Laura was born May 21, 1964 in Buffalo, NY to the late Robert and Judith (Weber) Grant.

Laura had a love of animals, especially bird watching and rescuing pets along with being outdoors.

Surviving is her beloved son, Daniel Mancuso of Rochester and her loving fiancé, Gerald Ryder of Basom.

In keeping with Laura’s wishes there is no prior visitation and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorials in her memory are suggested to the ASPCA or the National Audubon Society.

Dennis W. White born August 15, 1942 (son of the late Almer and Myrtle White) former resident of Akron and Batavia NY, passed peacefully at his home in Carlsbad, New Mexico on October 30, 2018.

Loving father to Natalie White, Michelle White, James (Trena) White, Sarah Tsirtsakis, and Jennifer (Nick) Parisi. Brother to Maggie (Brian) Tiedt, Ruth (John) Grover, Richard (Fran) White, Susan Trinkle, the late Robert White.

Dennis is survived by 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial for family and friends will be held on August 24, 2019 from 1-5 p.m. at Newstead Skyline Park across from the east entrance to Akron Falls Park.

Corfu -- Alice L. Harlach, 75, of Corfu, NY died July 24, 2019 at Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness. Alice was born September 10, 1943 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Mildred Bucci. Preceded in death by her husband Paul “Skip” Harlach and siblings Joseph Jr., Louis (Donna), and Rose. 

She is survived by her daughters Cindy (Herbie) Froebel and Jackie (Stephen) Swimline, 5 grandchildren Robin (Jeffrey) Czwojdak, Chad (Stephanie) Froebel, Allison (Michael) Czwojdak, Beau (Caroline) Froebel, Luke (Kari) Swimline, her brother Ralph, nephew Robert, her cute great grandchildren, Connor, Tessa, Ella, Theo, Grant, Rhen, and soon-to-be Veronica, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. 

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put her family first.

Joseph Topor, 84, of Darien Center, passed away on July 25, 2019. He was born on April 30, 1935 in Buffalo, NY.

Joseph was a Fireman for the Buffalo Fire Department for over 30 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Bennington. Joe was loved by many and will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Joseph is survived by his children, April Cummings, of Boston, NY, Thomas Cadena, of Denmark WI, and Shanon (Kyle) King, of Hatley, WI.

Corfu - Violet A. Seweryniak, 80, of Corfu, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

Violet was born September 24, 1938, in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Frank and Clara (Kroll) Mutka.

Violet was a former member of the Alden Art Society and was an avid reader who loved using her computer and traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Leon J. Seweryniak; a daughter, Lisa Joan Seweryniak; brothers, Robert (late Bernadine) Mutak and Phillip Mutka; sisters, Helen (Ken) Kwitzer, Carol (late Henry) Klein and Diane (Ronald) Benzel and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.       

Violet is the mother of the late John Seweryniak and sister of the late Richard Mutak, Frank Mutka and Elizabeth Lewandowski.

There will be no prior calling hours.  Violet's Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3 at St. Maximillion Kolbe Parish, 8656 Church Street, East Pembroke.  Violet will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia in a private ceremony.

DORIS J. SHEA – Age 79, of Batavia, died peacefully July 25, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Doris was born in Buffalo, NY on December 30, 1939, a daughter of the late Harry and Sally (Waldron) Schneider and was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne in 2006.

Doris was very active enjoying yearly trips to Florida and trips to Branson, Missouri, stops at the casino, NYS Fair, Erie County Fair and Christmas shopping for her grandchildren. She was an avid bowler, was always cheering on the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres and as many remember the painted pumpkins for Halloween on the corner of Main and Cedar Sts was the work of, Doris.

She is survived by her beloved children, Dan (Beth) Shea, Kathy Shea, Tom (Debbie) Shea and Tim (Kim) Shea all of Batavia; loving grandmother of Danny, Scott, Brandon (Ashley), Dylan, Kyle, Ryan; cherished G-Ma to Addison; great-grandmother of Anthony; sister, Sandra (Bill) Funke of E. Pembroke; sister-in-law of Richard (Angel) Shea of New York City along with 4 nieces and 1 nephew.

The Shea family will be present Tuesday July 30, 2019 from 4–8PM at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020, where a Celebration of Life Service will take place 11AM Wednesday July 31. Batavia - Beatrice A. Hinton, 93, formerly of Maple Springs, NY, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2019 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.  Beattie, as she was known by all, was born in Jamestown, NY. 

She was predeceased by her husband, L. Dexter Hinton in 2008. 

She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Marcia H. (Robert) Noonan; son, David M.(Susan) Hinton; grandsons, Ryan C. Noonan, Kevin R. Noonan, Dr. Brendan P. Noonan, Mitchell D. Noonan, David Dexter Hinton and Andrew J. Hinton and great-grandchildren Madeleine Eily Hope Noonan and Jaxon Colin Noonan.

Beattie loved life, her family, and helping anyone in need.  She had a cheerful personality and a smile for all of those around her.  Beattie loved cooking, baking and entertaining, always including family, neighbors and friends.  She will be missed by all, and consistent with her deep Christian faith, her family is confident that she is in a better place.

Jacqueline W. Campo, 92 of Batavia, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. She was born March 6, 1927 in Batavia, to the late Charles (Susan Elliott) Wilkes. Mrs. Campo is preceded in death by her husband Samuel Campo, daughter Teresa Giesler, siblings David Wilkes and Jane Castronova.

Mom lived her life showing her family what it meant to love, what strength looked like, and exemplified never allowing yourself to stop learning/growing.  Mom provided us with home, our safe place, our sanctuary.  There was always a bed, a place at the table, a hot meal, coffee, cookies, and most importantly an ear to listen. 

She was fond of horses to the point where we all had riding lessons and eventually horses of our own, she raised and showed purebred Schipperkes, a small Belgian dog, with no small success in the dog show circuit.  She loved to bake and garden, she was dedicated to her job, she loved to walk and do crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, she was an avid reader and a good cook.

Mom, Grandma, Aunt Jackie, you will be dearly missed and we will be forever grateful that you made our world a much happier place because you existed.

She is survived by her loving daughters JoAnn (Philip) O’Geen of LeRoy; Deborah Smith of Batavia; Cathryn (Patrick) McCay of Pittsburgh, PA; son-in-law Mark Giesler of Batavia; 9 grandchildren Mark (Sarah) Tomaszewski, Donald O’Geen, Amy (Tony) Ilacqua, Jessica (Phillip) Farley, Chad (Jennifer) Giesler, Matthew (Amanda) Giesler, Sara Smith, Ryan and Charles McCay, 14 grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - John F. "Jack' Andrews, age 81, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at The Grand Rehabilitation And Nursing At Batavia.

Jack was born November 6, 1937, in Batavia, son of the late Victor T. and Marjorie Francis Andrews.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sharon Stephens Andrews whom he married on June 25, 1966; his daughter, Stacy (Aidan) Brewer of Ossining; his beloved grandchildren; Arina Brewer and Lonya Brewer; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Andrews of

Buffalo, Sharon Andrews of Wallkill and Lynda Stephens of Buffalo; his cousin, Sharon Hensel of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews.

Jack is predeceased by his daughter, Carolann K. Andrews who passed away on June 28, 1998 and his brothers, Lee and Donald Andrews.

When Jack was 15 he was stricken with polio and was told he would never walk again. Because of his strength, determination, and fortitude he defied the odds and went on to graduate from Niagara University and became a well respected CPA in the area. 

He started out with the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen then joined Charles Mancuso & Sons in Batavia. Moving on, he then opened his own firm with Paul Tenney. He then partnered with Paul Battaglia and Tim Moag to form BAM, (Battaglia Andrews and Moag). Years later they merged with Freed Maxick, Sachs and Murphy, in Buffalo.

In addition to his work he was always ready to serve the community on many boards, including: The Saint Jerome Hospital Board, Eastern Health System, UMMC, Genesee County IDA, Genesee Community College Foundation, and was a longtime trustee of St. Joseph’s Church, Batavia.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on the 2nd floor of UMMC and the ICU for the wonderful care they gave Jack. Also the wonderful staff at The Grand who administered to him in his final days.

Last but not least, we want to thank the staff of Johnny’s Angels for sending us the most compassionate girls to care for Jack during the past year. They became a big part of our family.

BATAVIA - Judith E. Alwardt, 81, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Strong Memorial Hospital, a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Judith was born October 22, 1937, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Stanley and Doris (Barnard) Davis.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, enjoyed playing cards, going to the Senior Center and the Genesee County Fair.  Judy loved to go out to eat and made it a goal to be the first person through the door of any new restaurant or store that openend in the area. 

She is the wife of Robert Alwardt, of Batavia.  The two were married August 1, 1981.

Surviving along with her husband are her children, Michael (Judy) Anderson of Stafford, Paula Helms of California, Wendy (Christopher) Hilbert of Bergen, Kristine (Kevin) Brinkman of South Dakota; step children, Kenneth Alwardt of Florida, Karen Warren of Batavia, Susan (Lowell) Farnsworth of Oakfield, Sharon Wall of Batavia; brothers, Jack (Stella) Davis of Virginia, Douglas (late Ida) Davis of Pavilion, Stephen (late Mary) Davis of Warsaw; a sister, Deborah (Harold) Seelman of Forest Point; sister-in-law, Susan Davis of Churchville; brother-in-law, George Squires of Byron.  11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.

Judith was predeceased by a brother, David Davis.
