  William C. Smart, 84, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday February 26, 2018 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. He was born in Medina on March 19, 1933 to the late Clarence J. (Lillian M. Perry) Smart. He is preceded in death by siblings Donald, Norman, Richard, Milford Smart and Gloria Doxtater.  

Mr. Smart owned and operated C.J. Smart & Sons Construction Company with his father and two brothers. He enjoyed camping with the ARGYS crew, going to the casino and his daily routine at the coffee shop. The family would like to thank the staff at LeRoy Village Green for the amazing care they gave him.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Freida A. (Ray) Smart of Batavia; children William C. (Mindy) Smart II of TN; Cindy (Darrel Sonday) Smart of CO; Julie Holman of Batavia; brother Robert Smart of Batavia; 8 grandchildren Jason (Erin), Matthew (Maren), Dustin, Benjamin (Jamie), Brianna, Jack, McCord and Darrel; 2 great-grandchildren Maiya and Reya along with several nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Elba E. Cruz, 81, of Batavia, died Monday, February 26, 2018 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Batavia.

Mrs. Cruz was born July 1, 1936 in Puerto Rico and married Victor S. Oquendo who died in 1989.

She was a beautician in the Bronx for many years.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Oquendo of Batavia; a daughter, Nancy (Felix) Marquez of NC and several grandchildren.

LeRoy ~ Sandra Anne Uberty, age 75, of Linwood Road, entered eternal rest on Friday morning, February 23, 2018.

    

She was born May 29, 1942, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Warren Ezard of Caledonia, N.Y.

     She enjoyed baking, reading and being outside, tending to her flowers and gardens.  She drove bus for children with special needs for many years until she became a full time homemaker.

     Sandra was a very kind and thoughtful person, who was very strong in her faith.  She was the heart and soul of her family, whom she loved deeply, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     She will be sadly missed by her loving husband and best friend of 55 years, Robert J. Uberty; her children, Robert Uberty, Joseph (Dixie) Uberty, Michael Uberty, Barbara (Nicholas) Penepent and Karen (Kevin) Gannon; her brothers, Donald (Leslie) Ezard and Jay (Elaine) Ezard; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Family and friends are invited to her Rite of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.

Pavilion ~ Clayton A. Thompson, age 77, of Starr Road, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (February 21, 2018) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

     He was born April 18, 1940 in Pavilion, a son of the late Clayton and Helen Kelso Thompson.

     Clayton will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who was devoted to his family, especially his wife, Colleen, who he provided care to for over 20 years prior to her passing in 2015.  He was a proud Marine veteran, a member of the American Legion in LeRoy for over 44 years and a member of the Pavilion Fire Dept. for many years.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening. He canned and made great salsa.

     He is survived by his children, JoAnn Thompson of Wyoming, Steve "Tiny" (Michelle) Thompson of Pavilion, Ron (Shelley) Thompson of Bethany and Mickey (Al) Lynk of Wyoming; grandchildren, Randi, Mitchell, Eric, Crystal (Anthony), Sara, Connor and Kristen; siblings, Marlene Wood of Prattsburg, James (Smiley) Thompson of Pavilion, Loretta Draper of Holley, Gary (Marge) Thompson of FL and Bill (Linda) Thompson of Pavilion, along with many nieces and nephews.  In addtion to his parents and wife, Colleen Connolly Thompson, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Thompson.

Batavia - Jean Ann Russell, 55, of Batavia, former employee of Angelica Textile Services, Inc., in Batavia, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at her home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Russell was born May 11, 1962 and was a graduate of Pembroke High School.

Survivors include a son, Philip R. (McKayla Majewski) Perry of Batavia; a daughter, Tara (Scott Shuler) Perry of Batavia, her foster parents, Philip & Grace Compton of Orangeville; 3 grandchildren, Anthony Shuler, Trenton Shuler and Andrea Shuler.

  James E. Olin, 51, of Perry passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 20, 2018 at his home. He was born in Warsaw on January 29, 1967 to Jon (Linda Armour) Olin of Perry.

James worked for Steve Mel Construction for many years and was currently a self-employed contractor. He was a past member of Local 435 out of Rochester. Jimmy enjoyed working on Farm All Tractors, camping, bowling, hunting and spending time at the Sugar Shack. Above all else, he loved spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his siblings; Kim (Duane “Skeeter”) Mann, David (Kristi) Olin both of Perry, Jeffrey (Tammy) Wright of Warsaw; special family member Kalie JO; very close friends Jimmy Wojtas, Doug “Douger” Jones and Al Yencer; 7 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

DAVID L. MOORE, SR. ~ Batavia

Age 66, of Batavia, died Monday February 19, 2018 at United Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born December 25, 1951 in Indiana, PA a son of the late William C. and Imogene (Muckle) Moore also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Moore. 

Mr. Moore worked for many years at General Motors/Delphi until his retirement. He was an avid NY Yankees, Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres fan and an animal lover, especially his dogs. Dave's greatest joy was family, his wife, children and his cherished grandchildren and their sporting events, Grandpa Dave never missed a game! 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 47 years, Connie (Munt) Moore of Batavia; loving children, Stefanie (Ian) Lawlis of Batavia and their children, Gavin & Gabrielle; Jamie (Jeff) vonKramer of Pembroke and their children, Brenden, Zachary, Logan, Dakota & Cooper; Keith (Jennifer) Moore of Stafford and their children, Parker, Maylee & Mikayla; David (Karrie) Moore of Batavia and their son, Andrew; siblings, William (the late Carol) Moore of FL, Bud (Garnett) Moore of SC, Debbie (late Roger) Whiting of AL, Dorothy (Larry) Stockwell and Peg (Dave) Kams both of Medina along with many nieces and nephews.

Oakfield- Mr.  Stephen A. Allen, 62, of Oakfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 19, 2018 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Steve was born October 12, 1955 in Batavia, a son of the late Arthur Allen and Ethelyn Boyce Allen.

Steve began his career at Cummings & Bricker in 1973 as a welder and was their current warehouse manager. He loved being out in nature and spent much time fishing, boating, hiking and walking. Over the past five years he became an avid bird watcher and enjoyed tinkering in his garage. Steve enjoyed watching classic films on Turner Classic Movies and like going out to listen to live music.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kim M. Ash Allen; his sons, Eric Allen and Jared Allen, both of Oakfield; his brother, Scott (Cheri) Allen of Elba; his sister, Debby (David) Westland of Barre and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother, David Allen.

  Agnes A. Barber, 92, of Sheldon passed away February 18, 2018 at home surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Agnes was born in Buffalo on September 14, 1925.  She was the youngest of 5 children. In 1947 she married Edson (Gene) Barber who predeceased her. 

Agnes held many jobs in her life and had many stories to share about growing up during the depression.  She enjoyed gambling, loved animals and was a collector of cow trinkets.  Agnes was a fighter, having beaten cancer twice in her life and having dealt with the brutal murder of her beloved son Alan.  Agnes' greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

She is survived by her children; Russell (Donna) Barber, Kenneth (Deborah) Barber, Lucinda (Russell) Jones and Nancy (Michael) Zientek, along with 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed, but her legacy and her love will live on.

DANIEL W. "BOONER" LAMKIN ~ Attica 

Age 56, died peacefully on Monday February 12, 2018 at his brothers home in Loxahachee, FL. He was born March 19, 1961 in Batavia, NY a son of Eileen (Cayea) Clor of Batavia and the late Loren "Bud" Clor also preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Lamkin in 2015 and brothers-in-law, Mark and John Mattia.                                         

Daniel graduated from Batavia High School, served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1979 - 1983 and was retired from the New York State Department of Corrections. He enjoyed sports, especially golf & softball, an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills and had a love for the outdoors, Booner was truly at peace when he was out on the water on his boat. 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 30 years, Debby (Mattia) Lamkin of Attica; cherished daughter, Lauryn Lamkin of Attica; siblings, Deborah (David) Rider of Batavia, Steven (Michelle) Lamkin of Batavia, Douglas (Joanna) Lamkin of FL, and Pamela (Brian) Rush of Waterport, NY; mother-in-law, Elaine (late Robert) Mattia of Wethersfield; sisters-in-law, Cyndy Mattia of VA and Hiedi (Timothy) Librock of Darien along with several nieces and nephews.

Churchville - Fern Kathleen Acomb Wilcox, 67, of Churchville, an attorney in private practice in Churchville, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Mrs. Acomb Wilcox was born December 30, 1950 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Robert and Marjorie (Fischer) Acomb. 

She was a graduate of Leroy High School in 1969 where she furthered her education at SUNY Geneseo for Law and graduated in 1979 with honors. Continuing on to Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC in 1979 where she also graduated with honors in 1982. From there, she continued her education by attending Arkansas School of Law from 1982 - 1983 for agricultural law. She received her law degree in 1984 where she then became a member of Florida Bar Association in 1985. She started practicing law in 1986 and was then elected public defender in 1986 and served until 1992. She continued practicing law up until the time of her death. She was a passionate law guardian and advocate for the Youth of Genesee County. 

She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bergen and also the Asher Baptist Church. She was an eloquent speaker and fluent writer who had several articles published in the New York State auctioneer. Fern had a love for animals including showing horses where she won national Appaloosa Queen in 1970 and 1971. Her love for nature extended beyond animals to include landscaping her homestead which was often filled and ornately decorated with beautiful flowers and plants.

Fern was a compassionate, selfless and honorable soul who led by example and always stayed true to her values. Her love for her family and her faith in God were unrivaled and she will forever be missed.

Her husband, G. Harris Wilcox, died July 17, 2010.

Survivors include 5 siblings, Elizabeth (Briggs) Cunningham of KY, Robert (Marilyn) Acomb, III of FL, Marjorie (late John) Kuszlyk of Batavia, Heather (Mark) Stoltman of KY and Crystal (Patrick) Casper of Stafford; a sister-in-law, Barbara Acomb of Buffalo; survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

She was the sister of the late William Acomb and Bruce Acomb.

 Bruce D. Clark, 73, of Varysburg passed away peacefully on Thursday February 15, 2018 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care in Perry, NY. He was born on June 15, 1944 in Buffalo to the late John & Dorothy (Reiner) Clark. In addition to his parents, Bruce is predeceased by his son; Kevin Clark.

Bruce was a 1961 Graduate of Attica Central School and a 1963 Graduate of NYS Ranger School. Mr. Clark retired from the NYS Department of Transportation after a 30 year career as a Civil Engineer in 1996. Bruce was an outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling, especially to National Parks. He was an avid golfer, ski instructor at Honey Hill Ski Area, a member of Edelweiss Ski Touring Club and a euchre player at Attica Golf Club.  Mr. Clark was also a member of Arts Council for Wyoming County and a charter member of WNY Old Time Music and Bluegrass Association.  He was a self-taught fiddle player who played with several bands and especially enjoyed playing Celtic music with his wife and son.  Bruce was a talented luthier who created 18 beautiful violins. 

He is survived by his wife Jerilyn Clark of Varysburg; son Todd & Amy Clark of Varysburg; step-children Cheryl & Kent Carpenter of New Jersey, Steven Grisewood of Warsaw; step-grandchildren Daniel, Emma, Ryan & Reese; brothers John Clark of Varysburg, Keith & Arlene Clark of Varysburg; along with many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn L. Strathearn Athoe, 86, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018, at the Premier Genesee Nursing Home in Batavia, NY.   She was born July 31, 1931, in Buffalo, NY, to the late George and Vera (Handyside) Strathearn.  Later her family moved to Wyoming, NY, where her father ran W. G. Handyside’s Hardware.  She graduated from Bryant and Stratton College in Buffalo where she met her future husband, Harold W. Athoe, II, who she married on September 6, 1952.  Together they resided for over 40 years on Lewiston Road in Batavia, NY. 

Marilyn will be remembered for her sweet and gentle nature.  She was a loving and devoted wife and stay-at-home mother to her six children.   She enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking.  Once her children were grown, Marilyn worked part time at Joann Fabrics and J. C. Penneys.   She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Batavia. 

Surviving are her husband of over 65 years, Harold W. Athoe, II, and five children, Daniel (Debra) Athoe of Oakfield, John (Vicki) Athoe of Batavia, Peter Athoe, Elizabeth “Liz” (Richard) Farmer of Alexander and Paul (Donna Yasses) Athoe of Batavia; 14 grandchildren, Timothy (Hope) DeMay, Philip (Crystal) DeMay, Jonathan (Vanria) DeMay, Elizabeth DeMay, Amanda (Ben) Macdonald, Kristen (Aaron) Crawford, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Athoe, Joshua Athoe, Andrew (Kasia) Athoe, Meagan Athoe, Rebecca Athoe, Whitney Athoe, James Farmer and Nicholas Athoe; 15 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Judah, Jaimin, Ashton, Maleah, Liam, Madalyn, Luke, Elena, Blakely, Carina, Hamilton, Blaine, Lillian and Brooklyn.  Also surviving are sisters-in-law Alicia Strathearn of Wyoming, Wilma Meyer and Gloria Allein of Batavia and many nieces and nephews.   She will be sadly missed by her lifelong friend, Janet Paine of Batavia. 

Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah DeMay, who passed away January 11, 2018; daughter-in-law Laura Athoe; brothers Wilbur “Bud” Lennington and Laverne Strathearn; sisters-in-law Eleanor Lennington and Janet Briggs and brothers-in-law Don Meyer and Fred Allein.

Batavia - Mrs. Violet Grace McCampbell, age 101, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at her home.

She was born July 5, 1916 in Racine, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Erhardt Zehrt where she attended Grace Baptist Church.

Vi was a bookkeeper for the state of Wisconsin prior to becoming a full time mother. She returned to the work force when her children were in high school and worked at EBSCO Industries in Barrington, Illinois and later at Teledyne Big Beam in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

She read her Bible daily and was an avid coin and stamp collector and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. An avid bowler, Vi bowled well into her 80’s and belonged to local bowling leagues. She loved basketball and football and was a fan of the Chicago Bulls, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Vi is survived by her son, Mac (Cheryl) McCampbell of Batavia and their family: Erin (David) Paris and their children Josephine Prabhakar and Adya Prabhakar and John (Nazli Ergani) McCampbell; daughter, Mary Ann (Mike) Ledbetter of Evansville, Indiana; step-son, Gary (Jenny) McCampbell and their family: Jason (Amy) McCampbell, Alex (Kate) McCampbell and Courtney McCampbell; step-son, Jack (Barbara) McCampbell and their family: Jim (Cathy) McCampbell, Douglas McCampbell, Linda Bowman and the late Larry McCampbell; several loving great-grandchildren, nieces, a nephew and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Jack T. McCampbell; brother, William Zehrt and sister, Ruth Nelson.

Batavia - Eian Lynn Windham, 16, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, (February 15, 2018) at Hospice Buffalo, in Cheektowaga following a lengthy illness.

Eian was born March 2, 2001 in Athens, TX, a son of Terry L. Windham of Batavia and Theresa (Bernard) Slutsky of Eas Aurora.

A Junior at Batavia High School, Eian was a true athlete having played football and lacrosse, running track, and wrestling.  He also played guitar and was an amateur photographer.  His work was recently showcased at Go Art in Batavia. 

Surviving along with his parents is a sister, Lindsey Windham of East Aurora.

There will be no prior visitation.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (February 20, 2018) at Greenspring Natural Cemetery, 293 Irish Hill Rd, Newfield, NY (Please dress as if you’re going on a hike).  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 24, 2018) at SGI USA Buffalo Community Center, 121 West Tupper Street, Buffalo.
