East Pembroke- Lyla J. McEwen, 97 of East Pembroke peacefully entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday (January 26, 2025) in the comfort of her home with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.

Mrs. McEwen was born April 11, 1927 in Harlowe, Ontario, Canada a daughter of the late George Thomas and Alice Maude (Curtis) Whiteman.
 

Mrs. McEwen, together with her husband, the late Rev. Carman E. McEwen, were in service for the Lord for 40 years, ministering in Canada, Indiana, and New York.
 

Her bible was her most cherished possession. She will always be remembered for the legacy that she has left of a deeply rooted faith in God and for being an avid prayer warrior. She never met a stranger. Her many acts of kindness toward others left a significant impact on the lives of those she met. Her home was full of unending love; her door was always open. She loved her family dearly. Her greatest joy was spending time with them. No one ever left hungry; always something on hand for the sweet tooth. Baking was her passion, her “therapy.” Hugs and smiles were plentiful. She was forever the jokester and full of wit. She loved to sing, play the piano and guitar, all by ear. Spoiling her pup was a daily task. Gardening was near and dear to her. She enjoyed working with flowers and plants; with a green thumb like none other. In recent years, learning to text to stay connected with family and friends, near and far, became a favorite pastime.
 

She is survived by her children, Gary (Nancy) McEwen of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, Laverne McEwen of Cheektowaga, NY, and Darlene (Terry) Ross of East Pembroke, NY; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
 

She was preceded in death by eight siblings, her sister, Lula Flieler, of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, has since passed (February 3, 2025), and one great grandchild.
 

At the convenience of the family, services will be privately held at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia, with Pastor Matthew Gold officiating. She will be laid to rest, next to her husband of 65 years, in Hillside Cemetery, Corfu.

Earl L. Austin, a longtime resident of Oakfield until moving to Batavia in recent years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 68.

Born on April 26, 1956, in Batavia, Earl was a beloved member of the community known for his kindness and dedication to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Barbara Hickman and Troy Hickman.

Earl is survived by his siblings, Margaret Hickman of Batavia, Elliott (Barbara) Hickman of Batavia, Celestine Hickman of Syracuse, and Colleen Warfle of Florida; aunts, Eva Calisto and Agnes Austin, both of Batavia and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews survive.

Earl had a passion for life that shone through his love of fishing and watching sports, especially baseball, basketball, and football at both professional and collegiate levels. His dedication to his family was evident, not only in his warm spirit but also in his willingness to spend his free time tending to the yards of many family members, ensuring they always looked their best.

His family would also like to thank Tony Leone. Tony and Earl would spend a lot of time hanging out and going on little excursions. We consider Mr. Leone a part of our family as he's been in our lives since 1980.

Albertina B. Kornow, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Oakfield, New York, on September 21, 1938, to Albert Anauo and Zada Johnson Anauo, she was a beacon of love and dedication to those who knew her.

Albertina was a proud graduate of Oakfield Alabama High School, Class of 1957. Following her academic years, she embarked on a career as a Cook Monitor at Comstock Foods in Oakfield, from which she later retired. Her dedication and kindness extended far beyond her work, as she was a member of the Oakfield United Methodist Church and actively involved with the American Legion Auxiliary.

Known for her warm heart and nurturing spirit, Albertina was a caretaker at her core. She was a devoted wife to her beloved Wallace J. Kornow of Oakfield, whom she married on December 8, 1966. Together, they built a loving family. Albertina is survived by her children, Brent (Julie) Kornow of Scottsville and Lynnette (Theodore King) Kornow of Alabama; her step-son, Jeffery Kornow of Melbourne, Florida; her grandchildren, Brianne Clor of Oakfield, Eric Sprague of Alabama, Jason Kornow of Tennessee and Erin (fiancé Josh Watson) Kornow of Lyndonville; and her great-grandson, Leeland Watson. A host of nieces and nephews also cherish her memory.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved daughter Faith Ward, her grandson, Zachary Ward and her siblings Graydon Anauo, Millard Anauo, Alton Spencer, and Sherrell Anauo.

Albertina's life was rich with passions. She held a special fondness for butterflies and possessed an extensive collection of teddy bears. She was also well-known in her community for her baking and cooking prowess and spent many years as a beloved Avon representative.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a visitation to be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Jean Susan Klotzbach Rudolph went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on October 14, 1930 in Indian Falls, NY the daughter of the late Clara and Peter Klotzbach Jr., the 10^th of 13 Children.  She married Richard M. Rudolph October 22, 1948 and they enjoyed a marriage of 73 years together until his passing on January 7, 2022.  Together they have four children; Mona Rudolph, Kenneth (Jinner) Rudolph, Betty (Boots) Hall, Tracy (Laurie) Rudolph, and 10 Grand-children.  Christopher (Michal) Rudolph, Benjamin (Liz) Rudolph, Trisha (Luke) Amos, Richard (Julia) Rudolph, Brett (Loni) Hall, Teri (Randy) Tamburlin, Debora (Nicholas) Bonn, Colleen Rudolph, Julie (Andrew) Godwin and Thomas Rudolph.  She was also blessed  with with 26 great grand-children.  

Throughout her life Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister, aunt and friend to so many. The Love and Dedication for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew and loved her.  The greatest wish of her heart was for everyone to know her Savior and Lord of their life.  Jean was a true servant to others being a Sunday School teacher for 70 years, children’s choir director and adult choir member, secretary of her church ladies ministry and still active in the auxiliary of Gideon’s International. She is the author of a book “At My Kitchen Table” a collection of short devotionals which was self published in 2021. At the age of 94 she was still attending church services and Bible Study on a weekly basis and hosting Gideon meetings and family events in her home as often as possible. 

Her working career included housewife, wonderful mother, cashier at Mill Outlet in Batavia and Pixley’s Grocery store in Akron.  Then on to the business office at Akron Central School for 26 years and ending with a part time position in the office at the Bank of Akron for 13 years.  She officially retired in 2005. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard Rudolph and 10 of her siblings.  She is survived by sisters Kathryn (Roger) Thurber, Ellen Carey and sister-in-law Jeanne Klotzbach.  Also, many loving nieces and nephews in addition to her children and great-grandchildren. 

Jean was loved by so many and was a true example of kindness and giving to others. Her daily prayers for family and friends and even strangers will be missed as well her joyful, positive spirit.

Dennis J. Tourville, 66, of Buffalo passed away on January 25, 2025 at ECMC. He was born on August 14, 1958 to the late Lester and Mildred Tourville. 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased in death by his brother Daniel Tourville. Dennis had a love and passion for animals, especially for horses. This passion for horses led him to work many years as a groom, trainer and driver at Batavia Downs and Buffalo Raceway. He achieved his harness driving license in 1981, driving horses that his father, Lester trained.

Some of his favorite horses over the years include, Mar Con Don, Mr. Straw and Devils Cheer. His all-time favorite was Money who he shared pop tarts and peanut butter crackers with. Dennis was a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Most of the time you would see him sporting a Bills sweatshirt. 

He is survived by his siblings, Rev. David Tourville, Deborah Tourville, Diane Tourville, Donna (Fred) Kabel, Darlene (Dan) Bailey, Jeremey (Kc) Tourville and Sarah Tourville. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. His friends whom he thought of as family and who took care of him during his illness, Tammy, Todd, Kyle and Alyssa Cummings. Also, his close friend Donna Kerr.

Arlene G. Chiarolanza, 94, of Lakeside, CA. formerly of Batavia, passed away on January 21, 2025 at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA. She was born on December 17, 1930 in Caledonia to the late William and Etta (Garry) Henry. 

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband; Frank Chiarolanza; brothers Robert, Kenneth, George, Francis, and William; sisters Viola, Marion, Doris, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Alice. 

She is survived by her son; Robert (Rose) Welty of CA; sister Edith;  2 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. 

Arlene was employed by Fisher-Price Toys in Medina for 20 years. She was a Buffalo Bills fan and also of Elvis.

LeRoy ~ Christopher C. Blythe, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at LeRoy Manor.    

 Chris was born in Warsaw, NY on November 30, 1963, a son of the late Robert C. Blythe and Susanne J. (Stanton) Blythe.

     He graduated from Perry Central High School in 1982.  After graduation, he lived in Florida for several years before returning to Wyoming County.

     He is survived by his stepmother, Rose Blythe of Killeen, TX and his sister, Ronda Subject of Rochester, NY

Stacey Jo Call Daprizio, age 56, passed away on January 29, 2025, at Strong Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Batavia, New York, on March 4, 1968, the daughter of Murray W. Call and Pamela (Beswick) Herdegen. Stacey had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying activities like hiking, fishing, and boating. She was a passionate animal lover, especially fond of cats, and cherished the time spent with her friends and family. Known for her loving, caring, and compassionate nature, Stacey lived life as a free spirit with a fun-loving personality and a smile that could light up any room.  

   Her true calling in life was becoming a nurse. Stacey attended Trocaire College, where she earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree. She went on to work as a supervising RN at the Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home, a job that was a significant part of her life. In addition to her work, Stacey generously volunteered as an RN for Hospice.

     Stacey is survived by her mother, Pamela (Beswick) Herdegen; her father, Murray W. Call, and his wife Janet Call; her domestic partner of 12 years, Dave Popielinski; her daughters, Peyton (Daprizio) Kinney (Trenton) and Katlyn (Daprizio) Floth (Josh); her sister, Stephanie (Call) D’Alba (Peter); her nephews, Bryce and Baylee D’Alba; her step-sister, Rhonda (Herdegen) Fox (Dennis) Nephews Edward James and Alexander; and her step-brother, Kenneth Herdegen (Marie) Nieces Kayla and Lyssa. She was predeceased by her step-father, Rodney J. Herdegen.

Inman, South Carolina - Rachel Marian Crandall, 59 of Inman, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, (January 18, 2025) at Spartanburg Medical Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Rachel was born August 11, 1965 in Buffalo, New York a daughter of the late Dale and Hazel (Winspear) Crandall.

Rachel received her Master's degree in Social Work from Syracuse University and then went on to work for Genesee County in child and adult services until 2006. She then moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she continued working in child services with Buncombe County until her retirement in 2015. Rachel's incredible sense of humor was cherished by all who knew her, and she was always willing to help someone in need, whether by offering a listening ear, thoughtful advice, or a kind gesture.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Mary-Margaret (Crandall) Moffitt; son-in-law, Daniel R. Moffitt; grandchildren, Nicholas D. Crandall, Lily F. Moffitt, Michael T. Moffitt, Grace E. Moffitt; and cherished cousins, Julie (Winspear) Jackson and her family and Joann (Carpenter) Brigzna and her family.

In death Rachel is reunited with her parents, and her brother Michael D. Crandall.

Theodore “Teddy” King Sr., age 80, of Elba entered into eternal rest on Tuesday January 28, 2025 with his loving family by his side. 

He was born on October 7, 1944 in Indiana PA to Lowry and Alice King.  He was predeceased in death by his loving wife, Lillian “Peg” King, siblings Betty, Edward, Bonnie, Frank and Romaine, his daughter Donna King and grandson Austin King.

He loved spending time with family, fishing, going to the lake and the Amish stores. He loved watching the birds, working in the garden and sitting around a campfire. He loved watching western movies and having BBQs. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan who never missed a game. He was the most generous and loving person who demonstrated nothing but unconditional love to everyone. He will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. 

He is survived by his sister Elaine Horch and nine children; Theodore (Lynette) King Jr, Katie (Dave) Kinney, Robert (Cindy) Bucci, William (Shelly) Bucci, Sandra (Dewey) Knapp, Bonnie (Phil) Privitera, Peggy (Herbert) Scroger, Deanna Bucci, Charles Bucci, 28 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.

Barbara J. Scott, 89, of Batavia passed away on Tuesday January 28, 2025 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on May 14, 1935 in Batavia to the late Floyd and Florence (Eichenberger) Ames. In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her son; Daniel Scott. 

Barbara worked for many years at M&T Bank in Elba. She was a member of Elba Presbyterian Church. Barbara was proud of her large extended family and was known for her deep love of cats. She was affectionately known as the “Cat Lady” while living at the Manor House in Batavia.

She is survived by her children; Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Scott, Anne (Richard) Bird, Steven (Becky Green) Scott and Karen (Brian) Laney; daughter-in-law, Kim Scott; siblings Joyce Randall and Donald (Mary Ellen) Ames; grandchildren Katelyn (Dave) Lee, Jason (Brianna) Scott, Justin (Brittany) Bird, Jenna Bird, Jared Bird, Trista Scott, Kailine Scott, Casey (Alexei) Scott-Songin, Sarah (Kirk) Scott, Sonya (Jason) Davis, Ethan (Ashley) Laney, Kellie (Rob) Buchanan; great grandchildren, Madison, Harper, Adalynn, Elliana, Dylann, Colette, Dayton, Carson, Laney, Morgan, and Nolan, along with nieces, nephews and her beloved cat Walker.

Batavia - Mrs. Martha J. Richenberg, age 98, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born Thursday, February 18th, 1926 in Winburne, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Gustav Nowatka and Martha Turik Nowatka.

A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia for over 75 years, Martha was a graduate of the former Park Avenue Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester and attended the Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Connecticut. She was an obstetrical nurse at the former St. Jerome Hospital and served as supervisor of the department. Prior to her retirement, she was the night supervisor at St. Jerome Hospital.  Martha volunteered for Crossroads House in Batavia and was a voracious reader who loved her cats.

She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur R. Richenberg who passed away on July 10, 1999.

Surviving are her children, Vance R. Richenberg, Colleen (Don) Beuerlein  and Bryant Richenberg; her grandson, Aaron (Felicia) Richenberg; her great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jolena Richenberg; brothers, George (Caroline) Nowatka and David Nowatka and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her grandson, Joshua Richenberg and her sisters, Ruth Cade and Elizabeth Polowe.

William (Bill) Whaley, age 87, of Pavilion, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.

     He was born July 27, 1937 in Warsaw, a son of the late Milt and Cathleen (Foley) Whaley.  

     He was predeceased by his sisters, Mamie Fay, Peggy Smith and Nancy Cutcliffe and his brother, Tom Whaley.  

   Bill was a graduate of Pavilion High School and was a past member of the Pavilion Fire Department.  He always enjoyed a good card game, golfing, snowmobiling, vacationing, and racing to name a few.  Sports were a part of his daily life, and he spent time throughout his years coaching the Pavilion T-Shirt and Little Leagues, girls’ softball and the Pavilion High School girls’ basketball.  Bill’s biggest enjoyments in life were being around family and friends or being able to help out one of his kids or grandkids in any way he could. He spent countless hours doing things for his family, and enjoyed being there to cheer on all of his kids and grandkids in any sport or activity that they were involved in.

     Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sonia (Weaver) Whaley; two sons, Christopher (Teresa) Whaley of Pavilion, Wayne (Mary) Whaley of Piffard and a daughter, Marj (Dan) Jeffres of Wyoming, NY; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda and several nieces and nephews.

George Laurence “Larry” Goodale, age 80, of Bergen, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Larry was born on August 28, 1944, in Rochester, a son of the late George L. Goodale.

Larry was an adventurous man, he cycled through Europe as a young man on a bicycle. Larry loved sports and was a batboy for the Rochester Red Wings and played baseball for Springfield College. Larry enjoyed tennis, skiing, and baseball. He coached soccer for over a decade for the Byron-Bergen Summer Program. Larry was also an avid pigeon fancier.

Larry attended Springfield college and the University of Rochester. After a ski trip met the love of his life, Pamela Scharvogel, who works for Clinique Cosmetic Co. and lovingly stood by Larry until the end. Together they raised two children. He worked in Quality Control at Kodak until his retirement.

Surviving is his wife, Pamela Lee Goodale of Bergen; children, Lee (Rebecca) Goodale of King Ferry and Josh Goodale of Churchville; grandchildren, Jacob, Leah, Charlize, and Callie Goodale; siblings, Don, Leslie, and Kathy; brother-in-law, William Scharvogel, and sister-in-law, Karen (Richard) Boehly; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

LeRoy ~ Lorrie J. Mowry, age 65, of Linwood Road, passed away Saturday morning (January 25, 2025) at Highland Hospital in Rochester surrounded by her loving family.

     She was born November 21, 1959 in Batavia, a daughter of the late George and Arlene Brandes Hall.  

   Lorrie will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, who would put everyone else before herself.  Her children and grandchildren were her life. She never missed an opportunity to support them in all their endeavours, sports and school events.  Lorrie worked for 26 years as a medical secretary, 22 of those for Dr. Khan of Batavia, NY. She also worked part-time on the family farm. In 2012 she retired to dedicate her time to babysitting her grandchildren whom she adored. Lorrie also enjoyed baking and the occasional trip to the casino with family and friends. 

     She will be sadly missed by her husband of over 45 years, Lewis Mowry IV; her children, Melinda (Brandon) Zalewski, Michael Mowry (Michelle Rast) and Lindsay (Craig) Cox; her grandchildren, Chandler, Isabella, Dexter, Lewis, Maggie and Adelynn; her siblings, Deborah (late John) Neth, Cheryl (Robert) McGee, Stephen (Jane) Hall, Cindy Saeva (David Zarajczyk) and Donald (Mary) Hall; her in-laws, William (Ann) Mowry, Timothy (Kristan) Mowry and Elizabeth (Jake) Fletcher, along with many nieces, nephews and close friends.

     Family and friends are invited to attend Lorrie’s Rite of Christian Burial to be held on Monday, February 3 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  A celebration of Lorrie’s life will immediately follow her mass at B.W.’s Restaurant, 11070 Perry Road, Pavilion, NY 14525
