DONNA M. KOWSKY ~ age 43, of Byron, NY, died September 26, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born July 1, 1975, in Batavia, NY, the daughter of Patti (David) Coan of Byron and the late John W. Kowsky. 

Donna was a 1993 graduate of Byron Bergen Central School and worked as an LPN.

Surviving along with her mother are her children, Dylan Smith of Byron and Kristi Smith of N. Tonawanda; siblings, Cyndy Bisig of Batavia, Bill Kowsky of Byron; companion, Ed Ganshaw of Byron; step-siblings, Jennifer (Bryan) Wright, Aaron (Renee) Coan & Adam Coan.

ANGELINA FRY, age 89, of Batavia, formerly of Oakfield died peacefully late Tuesday evening, October 2, 2018 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehab. Angelina was born in Naples Italy on July 10, 1929 the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Lucia (DeBonito) Lubrano also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Fry in 1987 and sisters, Filomena Esposito and Maria Lubrano.

Angelina was a long time member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Oakfield and worked many years for RE Chapin Manufacturing along with being a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Angelina is survived by her loving children, Albert (Cheryl) Fry, Jr. of Fairport, NY, Joseph (late Katherine) Fry of FL, Gerald (Laurie) Fry of Oakfield and Lucy (Jack) Stevens of Henderson, NV; brother, Gerald Lubrano of Naples Italy and sisters, Rita (Reno) Guliano of Oakfield, Ida (Raffaela) DiGiorgia of Milan Italy; 9 cherished grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Barbara L. VanBuren, 74, of Batavia, formerly of Attica passed away on September 28, 2018. She was born on November 26, 1943 in Batavia to the late Paul and Rose (Lord) James. In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her brother; Gregory James.

Barbara enjoyed her family, friends, music, dancing and the Native American culture. She loved to give back to our veterans and was an avid animal lover, especially frogs. Anyone that knew her knew she had the biggest heart and welcomed anybody with open arms. She is greatly loved and will forever be missed.

She is survived by her husband; Donald VanBuren of Batavia; daughters Kathleen Cramer, Danielle Derenzo and Victoria Price; sons Shawn Powers and DJ VanBuren; sister Patricia Corcimiglia; brothers Jack James and Richard James; grandchildren Ashley (Aaron) McFollins, Jessie Cramer, Nicole Cramer, Gregory Merrit, Eric Merrit and Jarett LoCicero; nephew Dylan Woodrich and 15 great-grandchildren.

Basom - Wayne Phelps, 101, of Basom, passed away Tuesday, (October 2, 2018) at his home, in Basom.

Mr. Phelps was born December 17, 1916 in Pembroke, a son of the late Dennis J. and Mary (Klotzbach) Phelps.

Wayne was a 1934 graduate of the Oakfield-Alabama School and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2007.  He was a member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, the New York Farm Bureau, as well as the East Pembroke Grange #1157, the New York State Grange, and the National Grange.

He served on the Alabama Town Board for 20 years.  During those years, he spent 12 as the Town Justice and 8 as Town Supervisor. 

He has been a farmer in Basom for several decades, operating the Wayne E. Phelps Enterprises, Inc. and has been an Agway Agent Buyer since 1966.   

He is survived by his wife, Myra (Rudolph) Phelps, whom he married November 12, 1947; a son, Dennis F. (Joan) Phelps of Basom; a daughter: MaryJo Hinkson of Basom; Daughter-in-law, Dana Phelps of Corfu. 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive.

Wayne is preceded in death by a son, Bryan Phelps in 2011 along with his siblings, Revere (late Arlie), Maurice (late Beth), Virgil (late Louise) Phelps, and Esther (late Warren) Schaal.   

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Allegany Road, Corfu.  Wayne’s Funeral Service will immediately follow calling on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church.  Flowers are gratefully declined. Diana C. Seiferth, 79 of Cowlesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. She was born in Buffalo, on August 25, 1939 to the late Charles (Sophie Gospodarski) Zalewski. Diana is predeceased by a son James Seiferth and a brother Michael Zalewski. 

Mrs. Seiferth was a faithful member of the Folsomdale Baptist Church in Cowlesville. She was a very generous, strong willed and giving woman. Diana had high standards, always paying close attention to detail from cleaning the church to raising her family. She enjoyed hosting and entertaining especially at the lake. Mrs. Seiferth was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister always putting her family first.

She is survived by her husband Frederick M. Seiferth of Cowlesville; children, Pauline S. (Thomas) Trickey of Williamsville; Diana M. (Don Held) Seiferth of Dalton; David (Annette) Seiferth of Cowlesville; Frederick J. (Jennifer) Seiferth of Lewisberry, PA; sister Nancy (Lenny) Kotarski of Lackawanna; sister-in-law Barbara Seiferth of Buffalo; brother-in-law Peter (Bonnie) Seiferth of Scottsdale, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Jacob, Chase, Matthew and Timothy; along with several nieces and  nephews, and many cousins in the Taberski Family.

Jeannette E. Morley, 99, of Batavia passed away on September 28, 2018 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on September 20, 1919 in Mt. Morris to the late John Smith and Mildred (Brill) Stanton. In addition to her parents, Jeannette is predeceased by her husband; Ward A. Morley; daughter Carol Gordon; brother Sheldon Smith; friend and companion Butch Reading.

Jeannette was a long time teacher at Corfu-Pembroke Central Schools. She was active with the Pembroke Retired Teachers and the Oakfield Community Church.

She is survived by her son; Alan (Linda) Morley of Victor; son-in-law Wallace Gordon of Penn Yan; brother John (Lynda) Brill of Sarasota, FL.; 4 grandchildren Craig (Valerie) Morley of Pittsford, Rebecca (Greg Miller) Morley of MD., Sara (Ken) Tyler of TX., and Scott (Michelle) Gordon of MI.; 10 great-grandchildren along with 6 nieces and nephews.

  Leon C. Patrick, age 85 of Perry, NY passed away on Friday September 28, 2018 at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw where he had been residing. He was born in Warsaw, NY on January 27, 1933 a son to the late Leon and Delora (Arnold) Patrick. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law; David Hellerman.

Leon was a graduate of Perry High School class of 1951. He served with the US Marines during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated the former Patrick Keystone in Perry in the early 1970’s then he later was employed as a truck driver for the former Archway Cookie Co. in Perry retiring in 1997. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry where he was involved in the church choir, taught Sunday school and was the church custodian. He was also a member of the Perry Kiwanis Club, McKelton Post #350 of the American Legion in Perry and the former Perry Area Jr. Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed gardening, taking walks, riding his bicycle and cross country skiing.

He is survived by his wife; Joy (Humberstone) Patrick whom he married on February 16, 1957; a daughter Karen (Timothy) McCabe of Canton, GA.; 2 sons Kevin (Elaine) Patrick of Avon, Andrew (Anslie) Patrick of Columbia, SC.; sister Sandy Hellerman of Afton, VA.; brother  Merritt (Loretta) Patrick of Mt. Morris; 11 grandchildren Megan Patrick, Adam (Kathryn) Patrick, Jillian Patrick, Morgan (Neil) Skinner, Kirsten (James) Troiano, Madison McCabe, Joel, Hannah, Emma, Alexander and Vlademir Patrick; 1 great granddaughter Henley Joy Skinner, along with many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Leon’s life will be held on Saturday November 24, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church 35 Covington St. in Perry at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.

  John L. Gawelko, 62, of Bliss passed away after a long illness on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo. He was born in Buffalo on August 18, 1956 to the late Chester and Frances (Kobukowski) Gawelko.

John was a United States Marine, Letter Carrier in Cheektowaga, NY and an electrical engineering technician at Servotronics in East Aurora. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He will be remembered as a loving husband, good brother and a firm and loving father to Brandon. He was a good story teller, although to his friends he would tell you the truth even if you didn't want to hear it. After 22 years in Bliss, John said he didn't need to go to heaven, he was already there.

He is survived by his loving wife; Amy (Blair) Gawelko of Bliss; son Brandon (Tracy Quinn) Blair of Rochester; sister Linda (Donald) Sahlem of Akron.

Donna L. Lougheed, 71 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Saturday (September 29, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

She was born April 19, 1947 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elberta Latz D’Ambrosia.

Donna was a former hairdresser and interior decorator prior to her retirement. She enjoyed spending time in Florida but most of all she loved to be with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was the wife of the late Harry E. Lougheed who died November 16, 2013 and sister of the late Robert G. D’Ambrosia.

Survivors include her children, Dennie (Allison) Lougheed of Batavia, Joey (Kimberly) Lougheed of Belleview, FL and Jayson (Melissa) Lougheed of Brooksville, FL. Three grandchildren, Samantha and Jackson Lougheed of Belleview, FL and Courtney Lougheed of Batavia. Two step-grandchildren, Steven Corcoran of Venice, CA and Amy Corcoran of Rochester. Sisters, Martha (Stanley) Westbrook of The Villages, FL and Jo Ann D’Ambrosia of LeRoy. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Florence McJury Underhill, 89, of Batavia, passed away Sunday, (September 30, 2018) at Crossroads House, in Batavia.

Mrs. Underhill was born December 20, 1928 in Seneca Falls, a daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (Williamson) Knapp.

Florence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia.  She enjoyed bingo, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards.  She loved spending time with her family, especially loving having all of her children together.   

She is the wife of the late Dean McJury and the late Theodore Underhill.  

Surviving are her children, Harold (Donna) McJury of Batavia, Donald (Karen) McJury of Holley, Arlene (Rickey) Underhill of Batavia, Margaret "Peg" (John "Sonny") Purcell of Batavia, Terry McJury of Medina, Kenneth McJury of Batavia, and Thomas (Selina) McJury of Batavia.  18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Florence is preceded in death by her sister, Catherine (late Peter) Schiavone.

Batavia - Thomas E. Dickes, 72, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Tom was born October 24, 1945 in Batavia, a son of the late Edward Dickes and Marian Hoy Dickes.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, Mr. Dickes served the church as a deacon and trustee. An avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan, he enjoyed watching cooking shows on television and International Harvester Tractors. A longtime employee at B.R. DeWitt in Pavilion, Tom also worked for United Rentals and was currently employed at Commercial Collections. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force from 1963-1967.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra M. Dickes, whom he married October 4, 1969; his children, Brian Dickes of Batavia, Eric Dickes of Rochester and Kathleen (Brad Campbell) Dickes of Batavia; his brother, Terry (Peggy) Dickes of Batavia; his sister, Lynda Dickes of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Dickes of Batavia and Frances Dickes of Elba and several nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his faithful four-legged companion, Cody.

He is the brother of the late Richard, Clyde, Neal and Gary Dickes and Elaine Kaufman and half-brother of the late Francis Hoy.

Franklin B. Smith, 87 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday (September 28, 2018) at the New York State Veterans Home.

He was born October 18, 1930 in Syracuse, NY, a son of the late Ralph and Mabel Colvin Smith.

Franklin was formerly employed by Graham Manufacturing prior to his retirement. He served our country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Town of Batavia Fire Department.  Fixing and repairing homes was a hobby of his. Some would say he could fix anything and was never afraid to tackle a difficult project. He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing and playing bingo. Most of all, he will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife, Janice Dibble Smith of Batavia. Son, Michael (Laura) Smith of Batavia. Daughters, Debra (Earl) Klehn of Oakfield, Brenda (Mark) Platten of Batavia, Linda (David Riley) Smith of Batavia and Pamela (Ron Olson) Smith of Oakfield.  Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Robert L. Smith Sr., Albert Smith and Lorraine Donahue.

Byron ~ Judith D. (Freeman) Acker, age 75, of Swamp Road, passed away Thursday morning (September 27, 2018) at home surrounded by her loving family.

     She was born December 7, 1942 in Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter of the late Darrell and Daisy Gleber Freeman.

     Judy was a 1960 graduate of Byron-Bergen High School and then attended the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and received her LPN certification in 1961.  She was a private home duty nurse in the Byron - Bergen community for over 25 years prior to her retirement. 

     She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, who enjoyed cooking for others, reading, watching movies and especially spending time with her family and friends, both at home and at the family cottage.

     Judy is survived by her children, Candace Hensel, Denise (John) Prospero and Brett Acker; grandsons, Nicholas Prospero (Sarah Ledwith) and Jacob Prospero; siblings, Thomas Freeman, William (Jeanne) Freeman, James (Jacklin) Freeman, Karen (Thomas) Copeland and Jeffrey (Bridget) Freeman; sisters-in-law, Mary Backus, Ruth Ribbeck, Dorothy Dumbleton and Shirley Acker; special friend, Marie Barringer, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     She was predeceased by her husband, Albert "Al" Acker and brother, Darrell Freeman Jr.

     Family and friends may call on Sunday, October 7 from 12 ~ 2:30 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy, where a Remembrance Service will be held at 2:30 P.M.  Interment in the North Byron Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
