Batavia - Chad M.  Dart, 44 of Batavia passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.

Chad was born Sunday, March 27th, 1977 in Batavia, a son of Jeanette DeBois of Batavia and Terry Morgan of East Bethany.

An avid hunter, Chad enjoyed snowmobiling and spending weekends camping with his family. He loved racing and was a member of the DuBois Race Team.

Surviving along with his parents are his wife, Karrie Dart of Batavia; his daughters, Taylor Andrews of Batavia, Aloshia (Tez Sparkman) Dart of Tennessee, Addison Dart of Batavia and Aubri Dart of Batavia; his grandson, Arlo Jermontez Sparkman of Tennessee; his siblings, Amy Reigle of Elba, Edward Bump of Attica, Travis Morgan of East Bethany and Melinda Lawrence of Batavia; along with several nieces and nephews.

Pavilion ~ Loretta "Ret" Davis, age 86, of Lake Street, passed away Wednesday evening (February 23, 2022) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

    

She was born December 27, 1935 in Pavilion, a daughter of the late Richard and Myrtle Hissenbuttle Whalen.

     Ret will be remembered for her love of family, her faith and for just having a good time.  She was a substitute mail carrier for 9 years and retired from The Pavilion State Bank in 1995 after 25 years of dedicated service.  She was a devoted member of Mary Immaculate Parish (St. Mary’s Site), enjoyed bowling, playing cards and the occasional trip to the casino.  One of her most treasured things to do, was to travel to Florida with her husband, Gordy, to attend the NY Yankees spring training games.

     She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Gordy Davis; her sons, David (Stacie) Davis, Richard (Pam) Davis, Patrick Davis and Steven (Jennifer) Davis; grandchildren, Zachery, Matthew, Stephanie, Tyler and Cole; siblings, Jackie Lapp and Richard “Mike” (Sandy) Whalen, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Ret was predeceased by her grandson, Jeremy Davis and sisters, Mary Alice (Edward) Rogers and Patricia (Chuck) Davis.

     Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Daniel A. "The Mayor" Coughlin, 73, of Batavia, passed away on February 24, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Daniel was born February 6, 1949 in Warsaw, a son of the late Leo and Betty (Wolff) Coughlin.

Daniel enjoyed camping, fishing, horseshoes and going to the Batavia Downs.  He will be remembered as a family man who loved his grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Laura (Peter) Mooney of Oakfield, Diane Kotarski of Batavia and Daniel "Peeps" (Lace) Coughlin of Albion; brothers,  David (Carol) Coughlin of Batavia and Rick (Yolanda) Coughlin of Batavia; sister, Cathy (late Joseph) Barclay of Oakfield; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Coughlin.

Age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Bliss, NY on Tuesday, February 22, 2022

Paul was born on May 29, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Herbert and Florence Stock Korzelius. He worked as a technical librarian and administrator for Spencer Kellogg in Buffalo and was also the tax assessor for the town of Darien for many years. Paul was a longtime parishioner and lector at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Darien. He gracefully “retired” at the age of fifty-two and again at sixty. He built a new home in Bliss where he became the fire commissioner for the Eagle Hose Company #1. Paul made many friends by sharing the fruits of his wine-making hobby and blessed are they who were recipients of a bottle of his rhubarb or grape wine.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janice Korzelius; his sons, John (Sharon) Korzelius of Oakfield, Joe (Karen) Korzelius of Albermarle, NC, Jim (Debbie) Korzelius of Clayton, NC, and Joy Purcell of Troy, NY; his grandchildren, Kelsey (Matt) Morrison, Jonathan and Tristan Korzelius, Calista, Noah and Jordan Korzelius, Rebecca and Kaitlyn Korzelius, Gabriel, Colin, and Gerald Purcell; his brother, Don (Mary) Korzelius and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Isidore’s Parish, St. Mary’s Church site in Silver Springs on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 10 AM. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Linda E. Grimes, 57 of Byron, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022. She was born August 5, 1964 in Coalport, PA, to William Emerson of Byron and the late Barbara (Forman) Emerson. She is predeceased by a brother William “Billy” Emerson.

Linda loved playing the piano, NASCAR, Kenny Chesney, and being anywhere near water. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.

Along with her father, she is survived by her brother, Dale Emerson, daughter Jessica (Nick Gregori) Grimes, and grandson Benson Gregori.

Elba - Marvin L.  Stokes, 90 of Elba passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital.

Mr. Stokes was born Tuesday, June 11th, 1931 in Oakfield, a son of the late Raymond Stokes and Bertha Rich Stokes.

A member of the Elba Presbyterian Church for over 55 years, he was a member of the 2 cylinder club and a member of Godfrey’s Pond for over 50 years. Marvin loved to garden and had an uncanny ability to grow beautiful long stem roses. A gifted mechanic, he could fix anything mechanical if you could get it in his garage. He enjoyed old tractors, especially Massey-Ferguson and John Deere, hunting and fishing with his brothers and going to the Alexander Steam Show annually. A proud Army veteran, he cherished his time with his family, especially his daughters and grandsons.

Marvin is the husband of Viola M. Buck Stokes who passed away on November 9, 2021.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara (Jeffrey) Benedict  of Rochester; his son-in-law,  John Jurs of Albion; grandsons, Joshua (Robin) Jurs and Jacob (Katherine) Jurs, both of Barre; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Jurs; his great-grandchildren Elizabeth Jurs and Mason Jurs; his brother, Raymond (Shirley) Stokes of East Bethany; sisters, Esther Johnson  of Oakfield, Edith Bezon of Byron and Dixie (Charles) Rudolph of Batavia; his sister-in-law, Doris Stokes of East Bethany along with several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Jurs who passed away in 2015 and his siblings, Robert Stokes and Virginia Kidney.

BAUDHUIN, Dennis J. - Pembroke, NY, entered into rest on February 17, 2022.  Dennis was born January 11, 1949 in Niagara Falls, NY. 

Dearest father of John Baudhuin and Jessie (Michael) Molle’, Grandfather of William, Kate, Jack and Xander.  Loving son of the late Donald and Jeanette (Rogala) Baudhuin and the late Grace Baudhuin.  Dear brother of the late sister Laura (William) Mulligan, David (Tischa) Bradman, James (Deborah Garvey) Bradman, and Darlene (James) Graczyk; also survived by nieces, nephews and special friends Cliff and Michelle Black.

Dennis was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969 – 1972. He was a member of the Newstead Memorial VFW Post 3180, was a classic car and car show enthusiast, and loved the Green Bay Packers.

It was his wish to not have formal services.  A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at a later date. Final interment will be at the Western New York National Cemetery.

Virginia Ann Schaefer, 98, of Oviedo, Florida and formerly of Batavia, NY, passed away on February 4, 2022 at Life Care Center of Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
 

Virginia was born April 22, 1923 in Rochester, the daughter of the late George and Eleanor (Beidenbach) Klee.
 

A member of Resurrection Parish, in Batavia, NY, Virginia was involved in various bible study groups and was dedicated to Our Lady, Mary. She enjoyed her weekly bridge club, was also an avid golfer and member of Stafford Country Club. She worked as a secretary for the Selective Service System in Batavia, NY, and then as a secretary for her late husband’s law office, George E. Schaefer Law Office. While in Batavia, she enjoyed attending all her grandchildren’s athletic
games and other school performances, with her husband, George.
 

After moving to Florida in 2009, Virginia became an active member of the bible study group at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Oviedo, FL. She liked going for walks in the warm weather, floating in the pool, attending activities at the Senior Center, such as water aerobics, line dancing, and playing bridge, and watching every golf tournament on TV. She loved going to Disney World, the beach, the local high school football games, the UCF football games, and
especially enjoyed the halftime bands, as well as any and all musical performances from her era. She loved cheering for her granddaughter’s high school basketball and lacrosse teams, with the other grandmothers, and never missed a game.
 

Surviving are her children, Joan (Fred) Francis of Oviedo, FL and George (Paula Miller) Schaefer III of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Freddie Francis of Locust, NC, Karen (Chris) Jones of Newnan, GA, Eddie Francis of Oviedo, FL, Kristen Francis of Denver, CO, Kathren (fiancé Trey Koons) Francis of Winter Park, CO, George Schaefer IV of Greenville, SC, and Molly (Bryan) Hickey of Durham, NC; great-grandchildren, Ethan Jones, Jacob Jones, & Blakely Eleanor Jones of Newnan, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Schaefer, Jr. and brother, Dick Klee.

Batavia- Gloria E. Allein, 99, of Batavia passed away on Friday, February 18^th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home in Clarence.

Mrs. Allein was born January 8^th, 1923, in Buffalo, NY. She is the daughter of the late Harold W. Athoe and Frieda H. Athoe.

Gloria was a longtime and active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, NY. She was a member of the church choir, bell choir, Ladies Auxiliary and taught both Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She volunteered her time for many years at Genesee Memorial Hospital. She married Fred J. Allein on December 17^th, 1944, upon his return home from World War II. While he was still active with the Air Force they lived in Germany and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Gloria enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. You only had to meet Gloria once and you would fall in love with her infectious smile and loving heart.

Surviving are her children, Gloria (Robert) Chapman of Stafford, James (Cheryl) Allein of Attica, her son-in-law, David R. Whitcombe of Batavia; grandchildren, Brent (Judy) Chapman, Rebecca (Matthew) Roggow, Robert (Molly) Chapman, Jeffery (Shannon) Whitcombe, Ryan (fiancé Meghan Dwyer) Whitcombe, Becky Whitcombe, Abby Allein, Alyssa Allein, and Braden Allein; eleven great-grandchildren with her twelfth due in June; her sister, Wilma Meyer of Batavia; her brother, Harold W. Athoe II. of Batavia; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Fred J. Allein, who passed away on October 15^th, 2010; her daughter, Pamela Whitcombe who passed away on August 13^th, 2021; her grandson, Richard Whitcombe who passed away on July 24^th, 2006; and her sister, Jeanette Briggs who passed away on March 17^th, 1969.

Batavia - Michael K. McEvoy, 75 of Batavia passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. McEvoy was born Friday, September 27th, 1946 in Cortland, New York a son of the late Gerald McEvoy and Joyce Pursey McEvoy.

Michael attended Cortland High School and graduated in 1965. After graduation, he went to Canton Tech to pursue his degree in Technology and Buffalo State to complete his degree in Education.

He began his teaching career at Cheektowaga High School, where he spent 3 years. He spent the next decade at Sweet Home High School, before moving to Pembroke Jr./Sr. High School in 1984, where he spent the remainder of his educational career teaching technology and met his wife Susan, a music teacher. Michael and Susan married on September 28, 1985 and remained at Pembroke until their retirement.

Michael had a passion for woodworking, watercolor painting, and photography. Throughout his life, he practiced his art, including photographing weddings professionally throughout the 80s and 90s.

Michael is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan Hoverson McEvoy of Batavia; daughters, Sara McEvoy of Boulder, Colorado, Amy (Eric) Forden of Cumming, Georgia, Katie (Mark) Weber of Ithaca, New York and Sara (Mike) Glynn of Batavia, New York; four grandchildren, Addison and Ian Glynn and Alexander and Adam Forden; his brother, Kevin (Karen) McEvoy of Cortland and his niece, Kary McEvoy (Phillip Valenta) of Whitney Point.

Julie Catherine Olverd, 48 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday (February 15, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 2, 1973 in Clifton Springs, NY, a daughter of Cathy Creswell Slayton and the late Howard Martin; also preceded in death by a brother, Howard Martin. 

Julie enjoyed most time spent with her family, friends and children most of all. She was loyal and hardworking. Julie was a great lover of football. She was Buffalo Bills’ biggest fan. She devoted herself to her children and family. Julie had a heart of gold and selfless character. 

Surviving besides her mother is her husband, Eric Olverd of Batavia. Daughter, Morgan Olverd of Batavia. Son Kaiden Olverd of Batavia. Also survived by three brothers, four sisters, nieces and nephews.

  Margaret Elaine Grazioplene, 97, went to her heavenly home on Monday, February 14, 2022 after spending her last few days at the Aurora House Comfort Care Home in Spencerport, NY. Elaine was a loving and joyful person, who embraced life with enthusiasm and graciousness. She cherished being with family and friends and, even while facing declining health, impaired eyesight and restricted mobility, made the most of any gathering.

Elaine enjoyed games, particularly the card game Quiddler, one in which her many years as a crossword puzzler gave her a stockpile of obscure words. Well into her early nineties, she would adventurously climb into a canoe or kayak, compete in a bocce game or get down on the floor to play with great grandchildren. Elaine loved milkshakes, homemade pasta, Grace Livingston Hill books, Jeopardy and traveling adventures. She was a devoted sports fan, closely following her Buffalo Bills, professional golf and the Olympics.

Elaine’s faith in Christ was evident in her daily life. She was devoted to reading Scripture and loved listening to hymns and worshiping with her Edgewood church family. She was a bright spot for the many who knew and loved her. Although her presence on earth will be missed, she eagerly anticipated her new home in heaven.

Elaine was born on May 12, 1924 in Hornell, NY, the daughter of the late Carman and Frances Beaird Solo. She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1946 and started her career teaching elementary students in Oakfield, NY. She later taught middle school at St. Mary’s School in Batavia and then tutored math students at Genesee Community College until she retired at the age of 87.

Elaine is survived by her son, James (Ann Marie) Grazioplene; her daughters, Mary Margaret (Walter) Fleming, Elizabeth (Dean) Powley, Christine (Wil) Franz; her sister, Patricia Emerson and her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Grazioplene; her son, Thomas (Holly) Grazioplene; her sister, Catherine Solo and her brother, Frances (Lucy) Solo.

A Service to celebrate Elaine’s life and Christ’s faithfulness will be held on Sunday, February 27 at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Church (111 E Jefferson Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534). Live streaming of the service will be available via YouTube (search for Edgewood Church Rochester NY).

Barbara R. Kern, 86, of Basom, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, on Monday, February 14, 2022.

Barb was born May 15, 1935, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Jacob and Helen Blish Klotzbach.

Barb was a longtime member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church and the church organist for 60 years. She was a member of the Apostles Class and sang in the church choir. Music was a very important part of Barb’s life. She taught piano lessons for many years and at one time had 15 students under her calming guidance. When she wasn’t busy with her church activities and her piano students, Barb helped out at Kern’s Farm Market. She was very dedicated to the family farm. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting and bowling. Barb was a devoted Christian and loved her grandchildren dearly.

Barb is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ronald M. Kern; her sons, Scott (Karla) Kern and Gregory (Deborah) Kern; 5 grandchildren, Jackie (Josh) Kurcoba, Ronda Marie Kern, Stefanie (Ben) Kitanik, Andrew Kern and Jeremy Kern; one great grandson, Jack Kitanik; her brothers, Lawrence (Linda) Klotzbach and Keith (late Helen) Klotzbach. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Elba - Larry D. Williams, 64 of Elba passed away on Tuesday, (January 25, 2022) at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo.

Mr. Williams was born September 25, 1957 in Charleston, West Virginia a son of the late Willie Williams and Velma (Gross) Williams.

Larry is survived by his wife, Colleen (Say) Williams of Elba, along with children and grandchildren.

Batavia - Joseph G. Battaglia, III, 82 of Batavia, passed away on Monday, (February 7, 2022) at home.

Mr. Battaglia was born May 17, 1939 in Batavia,a son of the late Joseph P.  Battaglia, II and Lucille (Hale) Battaglia.

He was a former parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Batavia. He enjoyed the horses, football, gardening - especially tomatoes, and raising chickens.

Surviving are his daughters, Tina Marie (Clarence) Winspear of Cameron, North Carolina, LuAnne Battaglia of Lockport, and Jolene Battaglia of Chili; his companion, Hazel Preedom of Batavia; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph G. Battaglia, IV; a brother, Michael Battaglia; and a sister, Rose Marie Monte.
