Mr. Stokes was born Tuesday, June 11th, 1931 in Oakfield, a son of the late Raymond Stokes and Bertha Rich Stokes.
A member of the Elba Presbyterian Church for over 55 years, he was a member of the 2 cylinder club and a member of Godfrey’s Pond for over 50 years. Marvin loved to garden and had an uncanny ability to grow beautiful long stem roses. A gifted mechanic, he could fix anything mechanical if you could get it in his garage. He enjoyed old tractors, especially Massey-Ferguson and John Deere, hunting and fishing with his brothers and going to the Alexander Steam Show annually. A proud Army veteran, he cherished his time with his family, especially his daughters and grandsons.
Marvin is the husband of Viola M. Buck Stokes who passed away on November 9, 2021.
Surviving are his daughter, Barbara (Jeffrey) Benedict of Rochester; his son-in-law, John Jurs of Albion; grandsons, Joshua (Robin) Jurs and Jacob (Katherine) Jurs, both of Barre; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Jurs; his great-grandchildren Elizabeth Jurs and Mason Jurs; his brother, Raymond (Shirley) Stokes of East Bethany; sisters, Esther Johnson of Oakfield, Edith Bezon of Byron and Dixie (Charles) Rudolph of Batavia; his sister-in-law, Doris Stokes of East Bethany along with several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Jurs who passed away in 2015 and his siblings, Robert Stokes and Virginia Kidney.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 11 am at The First Presbyterian Church of Elba, 23 North Main Street, Elba.
