Press release:
The City of Batavia will have an Informational Meeting regarding the planned reconstruction of Summit Street from East Main Street to North Street. This project is a locally administered federal-aid project that is scheduled for construction in 2016.
The informational “open house” meeting is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16th, at the Batavia City Hall in the Council Board Room (2nd Floor).

Summit Street from Washington
Summit Street from Washington Ave. to North Street was just repaved a couple of years ago. It seems that this is just a money grab from the Federal Government if this section will be tore up again.
yes tom it was...actually
yes tom it was...actually frpm main to north....so many other streets in this city need repaving
I got the answer in the
I got the answer in the meeting. When they repaved it a few years ago, it was done as a temporary solution (they wanted to fix it enough so that a stretcher didn't roll out of an ambulance after hitting a pothole). This is the permanent fix and will include replacing water/sewer lines, taking down and replacing old trees, etc. 85% of the money comes from the federal government. The other 15% will be coming from the state. So yes, they are redoing it, but this is a fix that is supposed to last 50 years rather than until the next big thaw. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but there's the answer.
Joshua, thanks for pointing
Joshua, thanks for pointing out the facts.
"85% of the money comes from
"85% of the money comes from the federal government. The other 15% will be coming from the state."
Actually, Joshua, 85% of the money comes from the taxpayers, and the other 15% will be coming from - wait for it, wait.. wait... - the taxpayers.
See, Joshua. The "this much is state-paid, and, this much is federal-paid, is politician-speak".
Like I said, Ed, I wasn't
Like I said, Ed, I wasn't saying it was good or bad. I was just trying to answer Tom's question. But thank you for ever-so-kindly and not-at-all-patronizingly pointing out where the funding comes from. ::grins::
