Vehicles with Texas plates drag racing on West Main Street
By Howard B. Owens
Law enforcement is being dispatched to West Main Street, Batavia, in the area of Dave's Ice Cream, to check out a report of cars with Texas plates drag racing, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
So - Why didn't the people that reported cars, reaching speeds in excess of 100mph, just stop and ticket them.
Afterall, no 'civilians' that I know have radar or laser speed detectors, so, if someone know how fast they were going, they would most likely be LEO's.
Where are our numerous deer or bear or raccoons when people to things such as this. I'd imagine hitting a deer at upwards of 90mph would end this activity in a BIG hurry.
Ed, i do have a radar gun and im just a "civillian". They arent anything fancy or somethin that you cant buy as a civillian. Kyle, actually the faster your going when you hit a deer the less damage its guna do to the vehicle. Youll blast rite threw the deer. Thats why if im drivin and i know i cant stop to avoid it, i floor it, blow right threw it. Look at it this way, if your ridin a atv just puttin along slow and you bump into a sapling, itll stop the atv, maybe crack the body or somethin, hit that same sapling on the same atv doin 25-30mph and youll break it rite down and go rite over it
Douglas. You didn't happen to download your 'radar gun' from the APP store, did you?
See, the reason I'm asking is because there's a video of Mark Dice taking his smartphone into a bar, and having people testing the new "breathalyzer app" he supposedly downloaded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXEOFHdXyu4
Douglas I'm sorry but the laws of physics dictate that the faster you go, the more damage you'll have and the easier it'll be to lose control. I'm just not buying the speed myth you put out there. Unless you are driving a commercial rig you aren't just gonna blow thru a deer.
The faster you are going the more damage will be incurred AND the more likely you will lose control. For every half you reduce your speed by, the collision energy is quartered i.e. energy of a 100mph collision is 4 times that of a 50mph collision. The energy of a 100mph collision is twice that of a 70mph collision. For every half you reduce your speed by, your reaction time and ability to avoid further loss of control is doubled. There is no such thing as "barreling through an impact". More damage is more damage. Under ALL circumstances, it is better to reduce the speed as much as possible i.e. brake to slow as fast as possible while being safe. Finally, the best possible outcome is NO collision AT ALL. Braking makes this more likely; accelerating makes it less likely. So you would be accelerating yourself INTO a potentially fatal situation.
MythBusters did an episode where they tested whether it caused less damage when hitting a moose to speed up, stay steady, or slow down. Slowing down caused much less damage. Of course, they tested on moose-like inanimate objects, but they were still big and heavy objects.
As stated by others - slower speed means less energy means less damage.
Douglas. I remembered your comment about the speeding vehicles, and realized there were a couple youtube videos that you might like to check out. They could be instructional.
They should have taken that
They should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque.

Street racing is NOT drag
Street racing is NOT drag racing....it is street racing. People like these give drag racing a bad name.

True; however, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to calculate the speed of a moving vehicle.
Speed=Distance/Time

Sorry. There didn't appear to be one on rite vs right, or I would've supplied a link. I know what "civillians" go through.
