Press release:
RTS Genesee announced today that it will begin testing a pilot bus route in January that will connect Genesee Community College’s (GCC) College Village to the business district. The pilot route will also connect the Walden Estates and Woodstock Gardens apartment complexes to businesses on the west side of town. RTS Genesee has aligned this service with local business hours to connect customers with retail, entertainment and dining destinations.
The pilot route will operate approximately from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday that GCC is in session, between Jan. 22 and May 13. The pilot route will not be in service when GCC students are on break. The standard fare of $1 for a one-way ride will apply.
“This pilot route is a result of input from our customers and conversations with GCC and the business improvement district,” said James Mott, regional manager of RTS Genesee. “GCC and the people of Genesee County have been valued partners of RTS for many years and it’s our hope this pilot route becomes popular enough to make it a permanent addition.”
More information, including the pilot route schedule will be available later this year.

This is only a small service
This is only a small service compared to what RTS should be providing for GCC.
During the past 10-12+ years [under previous local management] RTS/Genesee [formerly RGRTA/BLine] systematically and progressively reduced service to GCC. IMO this was done to strong-arm GCC into paying for service it had previously been getting thru the "Public Transportation" program. Realize that Genesee County and NYS are two of the subsidizers of "Public Transportation", and GCC is the Genesee County division of SUNY [State University of New York]. Along with this impropriety, during this same time period, services were also cut to the Genesee County Nursing Home, for what I deem was the same underlying initiative. To force it to pay for service that it had previously [and rightfully] been getting.
This was/is reprehensible, in light of the fact that RTS/Genesee is Public Transportation which is primarily financed [subsidized] by government... County, State, and Federal [ie. taxpayers].
So when you consider if you are getting your money's worth from your tax dollars that finance RTS, perhaps you should think again. BTW, most of the execs in the RTS office tower in Rochester are getting 6-figure salaries, plus bonuses.
