The boys and i were at Austin park today.I saw a wabbit over on Washington Ave.He or she just sat there. It seems to be a tame bunny.I dont see how it survives in the wild...dan
Hi Dan: It's not a "pet" rabbit in the picture. It's actually a "wild" rabbit but they live in the city or village limits... most time they have little threat against them so they dont flee as quickly as the "country" rabbits do. I have a rabbit that comes into my village backyard quite a bit... he will stand very still to wait and see if there really is a threat or not. I can get pretty close(about 2') to him before he decides not to risk it and takes off. Yes, there are cats, dogs, hawks & owls in the village I've seen the proof over the years.. "circle of life". I have a woodchuck also that comes & goes for the last couple of years.. also have seen a hen pheasant in the backyard.
Lets not forget our population of Grey Squirels. I hand raised a baby 2 yrs ago. It had fell out of a tree on East Ave, and the kids brought him to me. What a great thing for me and the kids to experiance. We bottle fed him, played with him, and swadled him in dry washclothes to keep him warm. With the help of a woman in Leroy who raised Flying Squirels, we were sucessful. We started bringing him outside to play, and after a few times he took off to be wild. Very rewarding for the family!
Laura. It looks different from a wild rabbit.I know what you are saying. We have wild cat's all over batavia.I don't know how they survive, but i think some people feed them.As the woods get smaller and smaller where will the wild animals go?There have been coyotes in batavia.People say they have seen a bear on creek road.It migrates through here they say.I havnt seen a pheasnt in years except when they were raising them.At the preserve in alabama.
