If you are talking about the county results the answer is "no". If you are talking about the state elections, the answer is 'yes'. If you are talking about the national elections, as a whole, then the answer is "no".
Here's my advice to folks on both sides: Spend a couple of days reveling in your victories or licking your wounds, then get over it. This is neither a new day nor the end of the world as we know it. The collective will of the people is prickly and fickle. Their expectations of the political system are unrealistic. But there are people of good will on all sides. The political landscape is littered with corpses of those hidebound to principle, who believed they had a "mandate."
Well, it would appear that the R's will have the majority of seats in both parts of Congress. Any stalling of passing bills (there) can be layed squarely at their feet. And any bills they DO pass, yet not being signed by Obama, can be layed at HIS feet. Hopefully, something will get done. Time will tell.
Maybe its time we in New York start to use an electoral college where each county gets to vote for governor. I works for the President why not for the state? Then New York city wont always be the ones in control of the state.
I also think state senators could be appointed by county legislators, two a county.
The federalist system is supposed to be checks and balances and when every office is a popularity contest, you get majority dictatorship rather than protections for minorities and individuals (as the framers intended for the nation, and it's a good model for the states).
At this point, an electoral college probably makes more sense than it does for the presidential election.

The crazies (eg Ted Cruz)
The crazies (eg Ted Cruz) are going to make the new Senate Majority Leader's life a living hell.
Poll needs to be more
Poll needs to be more specific. State election or Country. Very happy with the country and not happy at all with the state specifically the Governor.
