This morning, I arrived at the Main Street location where two homes are being demolished to make room for a low-income apartment complex in time to capture this video.
Joanne Beck wrote about the project a few days ago.
Here are some additional pictures:
I dont think Many Batavians
I dont think Many Batavians understand how great this project is unless they have/had/will have a Family member or loved one with Mental Illness. Low income housing is just a small portion of the support DePaul has given our community and seems not to be recognized.
I think what they do is
I think what they do is great....But the part that bad is this is just another Tax exempt property...We need a tax base..
Tax exempt property maybe but
Tax exempt property maybe but its adding additional money into Batavia directly not to mention much needed services to our community. I urge you to look into DePaul because they do alot for our community. I could not say enuff about them. They provide more services then any tax exemption believe me. They bring in "their funds" and provide lots of great things for Genesee County. Other places and small business make come and go but DePaul has been consistant, dependable, and expanding. I think we should embrace this with some extra exemption.
There is the chance that the
There is the chance that the stores next to them will pick up more business and generate more sales tax. Some of the vacant stores might even find new renters.
John ..how many people are
John ..how many people are going to stay there...40 maybe..I dont think the sales tax on things they buy will come close to the property tax revenue we are going to lose on that land..They feed them so i don't think Aldi's will see a big increase in sales...
You might be right, but I
You might be right, but I don't think that land was bringing in much in the way of property tax. We'll have to wait and hope on this one, just like we will have to hope on that Masse Mall bail out.
Great footage and pics
Great footage and pics Howard. I have been watching every day during the week as I pass by on and off. It will be nice when it's completed.
What are they doing with all
What are they doing with all the soil up there? Its almost at street level. It was weird to come upon it on Main st.

I'm amazed at how quickly the hill is disappearing.
Thanks, Steve. I was pretty jazzed to get the shot of the front facade falling down.
I'd guess it was/will be
I'd guess it was/will be trucked out to AD Calls in Stafford, where it will be screened and then re-used/sold as prime topsoil.
Who are the contractors?

I don't understand your question.
Who will benefit from the
Who will benefit from the sale of the soil?? I thought Call was the Contractor.
AD Calls is primarily an
AD Calls is primarily an excavating and trucking company. If it's like the other jobs they do, they were hired for that portion of the project. Whether the dirt went there or somewhere else, unless it was contaminated, which I doubt because that would have been handled differently (as in, a much slower process and with lots of DEC vehicles everywhere)than the process we've been watching since those pieces of equipment showed up on site, it was hauled to a business that will screen it and either use it on their own projects or resell it.
Theres" ALOT " of money in
Theres" ALOT " of money in Prime Topsoil....Maybe the City should sell it.
Alot of the soil was used in
Alot of the soil was used in the back to level the site. It dropped off almost as significantly in the back near the end of the property as it did in the front. Saves money instead of having to bring in all the fill needed to prep the building site. The footprint they have prepared is huge. It wil be an impressive complex.
That was a really good video catching the front porch coming down. I wasn't as lucky with the still shots I took because of the shutter delay. I did get some really cool ones of the white house coming down too.
Lori, post your shots ... I
Lori, post your shots ... I didn't have time to stick around for that one.
