America isn't in decline. America needs a Spring Tonic- one of those old-fashioned purgatives that boots the greedy, corrupt, cynical, sycophants, fascists and fakirs: a really potent one, gets a body spewing from both ends. Once this nation is clean as a whistle, things will be back in order- assuming everyone wakes up and pays attention (to something besides Miley Cyrus and missing airplanes).
C.M. you hit the nail on the head with what Americans pay attention to. We will never reverse course if our focus remains on reality shows, celebrities, sports stars, the selling of sex, and the pursuit of the fast buck. All while politicians from both sides enrich themselves with both money and power at our expense.
I voted "no", because I sincerely believe we are not on the decline... We've had a few bumps here and there (waterboarding, for example), after each bump we seem to straighten out.
Are we the power we once were in the world? I don't believe so. But that is not because we have fallen, but that others are catching up. For decades we told China that communism sucked, and we preached the wonders of capitalism. Well, look what happened when they finally listened (in their own way) - they've become an economic powerhouse.
