Today's Poll: What should the U.S. do regarding the Ukraine?

By Howard B. Owens

What's wrong with doing exactly what we've done from a foreign policy standpoint for the last 5 years:
1. establish a line, when it is crossed, do nothing
2. make it somehow our fault by blaming American exceptionalism
3. make it George Bush's fault
4. create new catch phrases like "uncontested arrival" "overseas kinetic action" to redefine the obvious

"Speak softly and carry a big stick" has become "Speak in circles and carry a pen and a phone"

We need to partner with Russia and the UN to bring peace to the Ukrainian people..Russia has done no wrong..It's the same thing as If there was a problem In Mexico...the US would move In and protect their interest...

Doug,
You are of course right. We have done similar things in the Dominican Republic, Grenada and Haiti since the 1970's.

We also split off Kosovo from Serbia under Bill Clinton (and still have troops stuck there).

While Putin has seen that Obama is an empty suit, he is not doing anything we do not do.

Better choice: Elect a president and a congress that will completely revamp foreign policy so that it will once again command respect from our friends and enemies alike (we need Reagan back). Thanks to Washington politicians of the last decade or so and this administration the world knows that our military is neutered and without true leadership.

The division of the country of Ukraine is a distinct possibility. The UN should create and monitor a nationwide referendum if the Eastern, Russian speaking, half of the Country should unite with Russia and the Ukrainian speaking, left half should continue to be an independent sovereign nation. Of course Russia is not about to give up their warm water Naval port in the Crimea.
