Like most of us, Tom King works hard to make ends meet.
So an $1,800 loss following a hit-and-run accident in Oakfield is hard to take.
He's hoping readers of The Batavian will help solve the crime.
His wife's car was struck by a dark-colored pickup truck at about 11:30 p.m., July 6 on Sunrise Parkway. The truck, driven by a male driver, then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The truck likely suffered front-end damage.
State Police are handling the investigation but have been unable to locate the truck or the driver.
King's wife and daughter were in the car and suffered minor injuries. King was standing on the front porch of his home, he said, and witnessed the accident.
The car is a total loss. The rear was smashed and the frame cracked.
"All I'm asking for is a little help," King said. "We work hard for the little that we have, but an $1,800 loss for the car is too much."
Anybody with information that may help solve the case can contact State Police at (585) 344-6200.
Thebatavian readers have
Thebatavian readers have helped solve crimes before! I have confidence in us! Give it a week (if that)
Probably the same idiot who
Probably the same idiot who backed his truck on my car and tore off leaving me with a nice print of their vehicle on top of my car (happened in target parking lot about a week ago.). I did not see the damage until later. People have no respect for anyones property anymore.
This is why I prefer to buy
This is why I prefer to buy used cars, 1) The owners usually work out all the issues before they sell them, so they are broken in so to speak. 2) Insurance is usually cheaper, because banks and car finance loans usually require the best insurance out there while a used car can have the NYS minimum of insurance. 3) Almost all the used cars I have gotten great milage and were pretty reliable. Only had 4 cars in my life. I owned an 88 Subaru wagon, which ran pretty good until the body rusted away from our winter road treatments. I then had a 2000 Subaru which my boss bought for me for work (I didn't have the title so it was a deal for me) It was ok but like I said as a New car the business was paying quite a bit for it. It was traded in for the businesse's new Nissan Titan truck. From there I owned a Pontiac Transport, Chevy Cavalier, and a Plymouth Grand Voyager. All solid cars I paid 3000 for the transport and put 1800 in repair over 200000 miles. The Cavalier 1500 and about 400 in repair costs over 180000 miles. The Plymouth I still have today paid 800 for it and about 200 in repair over the last 3 years and 12,000 miles.
Never had an accident, and only got stuck in NY winters about 3 times, all in extreme conditions. But when living in collegetown got dinged by students like this all the time. Its amazing how expensive body work is especially for Cavaliers.....but parents of these college students had deep pockets and when you have a police report in hand they will pay lots of cash to not have insurance reported to when they were at fault.
I hope Mr. King get the leads he needs to get this inconsiderate jerk and make him or his insurance cover what they are supposed to. $1800 is an unreasonable amount..... I hope he gets back every cent.
Wasn't this about the time
Wasn't this about the time frame with all the fights on Sunrise this Summer?
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE. MY
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE. MY HOUSE IN OAKFIELD WAS HIT BY A HIT AND RUNNER {DRUNK NO LESS } AND THE COPS WERE BLAMING ME FOR HITTING THE HOUSE, I HAD TO DO ALL THE FOOT WORK {INVESTIGATION} TO CATCH THE PERSON AND THEN THE PERSON ADMITS SHE WAS DRUNK BUT NOTHING HAPPEND TO HER . I'M SURE IF YOU DO THE LOOKING YOU WILL FIND THE CULPRIT BUT THE POLICE THEN WILL DO NOTHING
Mark I find that story hard
Mark I find that story hard to believe, cops don't just ignore or dismiss a car house collision especially one that drives away. There must be more to the story than that. You finding the person is one thing, but cops have a burden of proof to meet with evidence. No evidence no charges. That's the way it goes but they don't just decide that they don't want to do it for no reason.
