I assume this poll is the result of the debacle that is currently taking place in Corfu NY. I agree with Paul in normal flow of things. However when a situation arises, as what we have in Corfu, the normal flow of elect or re-elect is not sufficient and emergency measures need to be taken.
Again (or is it still?), I stress: Be very careful on what laws & procedures you pass. Heed the oft-misquoted words of John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton.
My fear of recall elections can be related directly to what happened in Wisconsin a few years ago,
A governor was initially elected by a 3 point margin, he together with his legislature began to act upon the exact agenda that he ran on.
The opposition first through court challenge and then through a recall essentially shut down any progress in the state for over 9 months. The result of the recall the Governor again won election except this time by 6 points rather than the 3 points and the state had a bill of over $100 million that had to be added to their budget.
The only thing that I ever agreed with the Obama administration on was that elections have consequences, if you can recall every time a politician makes an unpopular decision, you do not have democracy, You have anarchy.
Talk about a waste of money... We need voters who both pay attention and exercise their right to vote. As far as government goes: we get exactly what we ask (vote) for. The public needs to get its stuff together BEFORE the election NOT afterwards. All this rhubarb about the Corfu mayor. Was he a different person before he won the election?
To the 10 "no" voters, do you
To the 10 "no" voters, do you care to state your reasoning for not being able to fire those that work for us?
That is what you have
That is what you have elections for. You hire when you elect and you fire when you do not re-elect.
