Thief uses sawed off shotgun to rob Pandora's Boxxx in Batavia

By Howard B. Owens

A mask-wearing man carrying a sawed-off shot gun robbed Pandora's Boxxx, an adult video and novelty store, as a clerk was preparing to close last night, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5' 9" tall and weighing more than 200 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage balaclava over his head and dark clothing. He was last seen on foot running through the parking lot of the store toward Ellicott Street Road.

The store is located at 4818 Ellicott Street Road, Batavia. The robbery was reported at 11:39 p.m.

The clerk handed over the contents of the cash register to the man when he demanded cash.

The Sheriff's Office is asking that anybody with information that might assist in the investigation to call (585) 343-5000.

Ok that's just plain old desperate.... what is happening to this town.... i love it but some of these people are just getting out if hand. Im glad i have been able to teach my son right from wrong. I really want my son to grow up here cause i do see alot of positive here. But these criminals need to go somewhere else. Plus i belive tougher laws could be put in place.... for example how about a habitual offender law... it will help keep most of them in prison longer...

Ma'am: what is happening to this town? Tougher laws? come on now, this is an isolated instance.

Let me say before anyone gets upset here that I am a believer in the Non Aggression Principle and armed robbery is surely a big old violation of that, so in no way would I ever condone armed robbery. Also, I empathize and sympathize very much with the clerk who had a shotgun pointed at him, very traumatizing experience and i hope the person is OK, and I'm glad the trigger wasn't pulled.
But before we go yelling that the sky is falling and Batavia is being overrun by criminals, and sliding into lawlessness let's put this in perspective. I don't know the number, but I know it's large of how many businesses in Batavia close everyday and don't get robbed. Day after day. This type of thing happens every so often; the police will catch the person, because you are correct in that this is a desperate action and he is bound to make his guilt known somehow. Life will go on and someday it'll happen again with or without "tougher laws". I don't wish it to, but it is inevitable. Human beings are faulted and some will do bad things. Fact.

So focus on the positives, keep teaching your son how to act, and don't be afraid.

Dave is correct, it is likely this person will get caught and when he/she is they will be arrested. Therefore the existing laws are adequate. If the court, corrections, and probation/parole system all function as they should, then he/she will not be a habitual offender. Again, existing laws are adequate. This is not a Batavia is falling into the abyss issue, it is a systemic cultural, moral, and judicial function issue. More, tougher, broader, laws will not fix it.

The chances of whoever robbed this store ladt night has probably done it before. A habitual offender law woyld keep someone who commuts the same kind of crime repeatedly in jail/prison. I have lived in a big cit. Im not teaching my son to be afraid or scared butim mearly stating that there should be an afoption of some laws from other places to show people that they are not gonna keep getting away with it. Where i came from, there is no such thing as getting an appearance ticket for a dui or dwi. I think thats crazy. I have never seen a place whete there is so many people with dui/dwi and still able to drive.

Sawd off shotgun? Thats quite a description for a porn store clerk. Smells fishy
Also the term thief gets an upgrade to armed robber, when the sawd off shotgun comes into play.
And good thing they passed that safe act, i feel safer already knowing people who cvw only have a max of 7 rounds in ther mags.

If it truly was sawed-off, it MAY fall under federal law. Depends on length.

As an aside, if anyone is interested, Brenna, Brenna & Boyce Law Forum is on WHAM1180, Sunday mornings. Also available to listen to past shows on Internet.

Also, MR. Boyce has website www.gunattorney.us/

Just thought I'd let y'all know. Helpful people, they are!

CJ, why do you think that sounds fishy? A sawed off shotgun is pretty distinctive.

I really wish that Batavia didn't have that store, but to say "for a porn store clerk"...why be judgmental in that way?

Yeah CJ your whole comment on the sawed off sounds fishy. Even Buford T Buubba from Dead Center, Appalachin Tenn. Who his whole life has only seen 4 guns ( his granpappy's civil war gun, his daddy's doublebarrel and long gun and his own brand new 1886 .22 single shot long-gun) is able to identify a sawed off shotgun.... I mean if it is a shotgun 16 inches or less then its pretty safe assumption. Hell a 5 yr old girl could figure that out.

Again to echo others here, whats fishy about that? Are you that impressed that a "porn store clerk" could figure that out?

Off topic, but Howard and I have been to a place called Buck Snort, Tenn., during our travels on a trip we won. We chose to go the Nashville and, of course, had to drive to Memphis, too. We bought a shot glass that says proudly, "I've Been to Buck Snort." There's nothing really there, except a dirt road that goes up a hill off the asphalt one and we ventured up there a bit but decided not to continue. It had rundown wooden shacks and people sitting on the porch who didn't look real friendly, so we just put it in reverse.

"Buck Snort". I love it.
"It had rundown wooden shacks and people sitting on the porch who didn't look real friendly". Kinda reminds me of the 1st time I tried to find the Birdsall Inn. Funny (but too long a story to tell).
Buck Snort - Can't stop laughing!
