Today's Poll: Can a deal be reached to avoid the 'fiscal cliff'?

Raising taxes on anyone making more than $250K per year isn't going to solve a thing. It's a moot part of Obama's plan to solve the debt problem. Even if the tax rate "is" raised, It won't actually amount to an increase in tax revenue. The country spends more than it receives. Until that problem is solved, we're doomed to fall farther into debt and closer to the point of no return. Everyone knows they can't live on credit cards forever. Eventually the debt piles up and someone either has to lose in bankruptcy or someone has to pay the bill. Simple math easily explains the trouble this country is in.

Ok Ok Ok.... What your not hearing from the general media is that the Obamafraud admin. needs this economy to go directly over the cliff! They will get the taxes they want, the cuts to military spending they want, and a level of blame to the republicans never before seen in modern politics. Then they will beable to take the House, keep the Senate, and of course shovel down our throats anything the spanky fraud pants wants.

I have a better idea. Let's stop talking about "tax increases" and let's call it what it really is, an overextended tax cut. Let it expire for everyone! Let people actually run out of unemployment instead of extending it over and over. This is what got us in this mess, a tax break that went on way longer than was ever intended which didn't even work well when it was enacted.

You get my one vote on this one Doug. It will cancel out one of the two undeserved negatives votes. Your post was neither offensive nor unreasonable. Simple common courtesy by withholding a negative for another’s opinion always adds up.

In my book, openly flippant, sarcastic or deliberately hostile and/or patently obtuse to be ludicrous are fair game. This blind squirrel, and no offense was taken, stole one of your negatives votes from the thumbs down hand and gave it to the thumbs up one.

Doug,
We are actually beyond the point of no return already. We cannot really ever pay this down, as the payments required for the interest only is more than is taken in per year. Many of those who enjoy living in the land of ignorant bliss believe that we are saddled with over 16 trillion in debt... Operative word being OVER... as in an actual number that is just less than 56 trillion. The extra 40ish that they don't want to let people get wise to is in the shadowy world of "revolving debt".

We are just getting close to where all those countries and mega-banks we "owe" this money to are realizing that America actually cannot pay it back. What do you all think is going to happen when we default? (and we will, as it's a mathematical impossibility for this nation to pay it back.)

Most of those who don't understand reality, (read: those who voted for the illegal-alien) seem to think that all of the "free stuff" they get is actually free. Gorbechov was quite correct when he said that Russia didn't have to physically attack America to beat it. He said that their agents being planted in our educational system in the 50's and 60's would do the job... Barry Soetero and his criminal co-conspirators are a prime example of the red-diaper babies that became prevalent then, and have taken over almost ALL higher education.
The only hope that the current crop of career politicians have is to keep the three-card monty going as long as possible. They need to make sure that the vast majority of Americans stay in the dark until they squeeze the last pennies out for themselves. Then, all they need to do is stay safe behind their walls as the 'little people' go off killing each other.
The Republic is doomed unless some SERIOUS changes are made, and even with that, there will be rivers of blood...

Red diaper doper babies - Isn't that a Michael Savage thing? I can't stand listening to that guy. I do like listening to Dennis Miller, though.
