Kids these days are getting all hopped up on frostys and fighting. Mayor Bloomberg has just announced that NYC will be placing a ban on all frozen chocolately treats due to the millions upon millions of NY youth whose lives it has damaged.
@Bob it was my response in light of the downtown fights that keep happening with no real response to keep them from happening.Just why are you hung on bathsalts so much I think they did a fine job stopping that and if you knew my level of community involvement on that subject you might not write statements that don't have anything to do with another.
@ John read my post again, I didn't state they did nothing it was more of a challenge to do more...As much as you people are all on here you must be informed enough from Howards reporting that there has been problems with downtown brawls...,.......And as ignorantly as BOB has stated I don't think bathsalts has anything to do with this problem..There are other issues are community is dealing with at this present time I think our police do a fine job as much as they can with the delinquents their dealing with. And I display my support decals proudly!!!!!!!
Scott,
Not too many people start fights when the police are around, so there is not much they can do to prevent them. The answer is the courts, who have to come down heavier on the fools.
I and the Batavia city police would probably argue that if you were to look at the fights that were starting in front of them in the downtown brawl on state street last week and all the brawls that continue to happen in Austin park which happens to be less than 50 feet or so to the police station... I suppose the courts are limited also..these people have no community attachment I believe three generations of police have been dealing with three generations of delinquents.. I bet you seen the same circle in your career John.
I always get irritated when people expect the police to prevent crime.
Yes, there are crime prevention measures ... regular patrols, community outreach, addressing problems when you find them ... that help make a community safer.
But it's completely unrealistic to blame the police because people fight, or because people steal, or because people sell drugs.
Unless you want to live in a police state (and pay the higher taxes to go with it) to have 100 more cops than we have now and cameras on every corner, there is absolutely no way to prevent these kinds of events.
So long as there are people who are willing, for whatever socio-economic reasons, who want to engage in this kind of activity, you're going to have these kinds of problems.
That's not the fault of the police.
We actually live in a very safe and pleasant community, especially comparatively speaking to, oh, say, Rochester and Buffalo. We are served in this county by five local law enforcement agencies that are well run and well staffed. From everything I've observed both as somebody who has covered police in other communities and been in law enforcement myself, we get as good of police service as you're going to get. So bashing police just because a few miscreants decide to act up is really misplaced.
I moved to this area from the NE section of Rochester. Batavia is like a playground in Eden compared to living in Rochester. Every night I could hear gunshots and and every day I had to run the hooker gauntlet on Portland Ave. My mother used to stay at my house in the Rochester when she had Army Reserve duty (817th evac unit in Webster, NY - now defunct). At the time, she lived in Hermitage so coming to my house was unnerving. The crims in that neighborhood didn't give a damn if the police were around or not and they did whatever they wanted to do.
Yep that's our batavia bet
