ROTTEN PUMPKIN SMELL IN THE CITY

By Ron C Welker

Has any else noticed the smell in the air when entering the city from 63 south? Smells like rotten pumpkins? Today it can be noticed downtown, what is it?

It can't be any worse than Lambs farm that surrounds Oakfield on all sides it seems -- many a time people have comented on the smelly town driving through Oakfield -- a true shame for a town to be known like that.Folks attending ball games from other towns have complained -- a farm does not need to smell like that -- no I don't hate farms -- lived on them.

That strange smell seems to be all over, I think it has to do with the change in temperature. I noticed it this morning on my way to work too. It smells the same in Webster as well; a friend brought it up this morning and said he smelled the difference on his way from Canandaigua too.

My typically superhuman schnoz is on the fritz this morning — stuffed too full of snot — or I would sniff this sucker out, for sure.

If the "city" is Batavia then I can say that it has to do with the water treatment plant.

On a funnier note follow these steps:

check your breath, did you brush ?

check your car thouroughly for small animal hit or stuck rotten food in back seat or trunk.

some newer cars emit odors when they have a problem with their catalytic convertor or heater. (true)

When Batavia "stinks" its usually from the water treatment plant but it smells like wrotten eggs.
