Two men suspected of being in the country illegally were arrested Monday afternoon following an accident at Route 98 and West Saile Drive.
Taken into custody were Juan H. Gomez, 25, a resident of Hamlin, and Humberto O. Escalante, 24, a resident of Elba.
Both men were charged with illegal entry and turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Gomez was the driver. Gomez allegedly made a left-hand turn from Route 98 onto West Saile Drive and failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic.
Injured in the crash at 5:18 p.m. were the driver and passenger of the other vehicle, Judith M. Drews, 65, of Byron, and Judith M. Drews, 90. Both women were transported to UMMC by Mercy EMS with minor injuries.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Joseph Graff.
I wonder how the LEO came to
I wonder how the LEO came to suspect the two men of being in the country illegally? I mean the current administration has made it abundantly clear it will not stand for LEO asking people for proof of citizenship when they come into contact with them through the normal course of their duties of enforcing the law. That was made clear by the lawsuits filed against AZ, AL, and GA for implementing laws that merely required LE to ask for proof of citizenship.
Hmmm maybe when asked for ID
Hmmm maybe when asked for ID they were not able to provide any or were unable to provide a current residential address or maybe they told the truth to the officers, that was an easy answer, and who will be left to pay the damages from the accident?
You know the answer Steve. MS
You know the answer Steve. MS Drew’s' insurance company will have to pay out.
Jeremiah unfortunately this article is very vague but, I guessing Steve might have stated one of the answer. Beside these lawsuits filed against Alabama, Arizona and Georgia are BS! It was the "Federal Government and Courts that established them to begin with. Just another way to waste taxpayers' dollars and get more votes for the elected officials behind the lawsuit.
Great!
Great!
They were only here illegally
They were only here illegally to provide for a better life..We should just turn a blind eye to this illegal immigration issue and let them walk..How will the farmer get any of his crops picked ..Why no INS involvement..No ticket for driving without a licence or insurance
To the two Ms. Drews, on
To the two Ms. Drews, on behalf of those of us American citizens who enjoy the privilege of driving cars on our roads by taking and passing tests (written and driving), paying all the appropriate and required fees to the state, and buying mandatory insurance, I am sorry that you now have to recover from injuries sustained at the hands of Juan and Humberto. I am sorry that you now have to navigate the complex system involved in getting your car fixed, doing without a car or having to rent or borrow one. Being involved in a motor vehicle accident is a pain in the rumpus even without injuries. It is even more aggravating when it was no fault of your own, and exponentially more aggravating when those responsible should not have been turning left in front of you by virtue of the fact that they shouldn't have been in the United States to begin with. Juan and Humberto made a conscious choice to disregard the laws of our country when they crossed the border ad apparently disregard for laws and rules didn't end there. How they were supporting themselves is at this point irrelevant, every scenario somehow involved costing me tax dollars that I have paid on my employment since I was 16 years old. It certainly is a given that Juan and Humberto never got a permit, never took a driving test, never paid a single fee to New York State associated with the privilege of driving, and certainly never paid one dime in automobile insurance that you and I faithfully pay in order to protect ourselves and others against the high cost of accidents. Rest assured though, all our rates our subject to increase because somebody has to pay for the Juans and Humbertos of this country to drive around in cars they got from ?????
Well said, Jeff!
Well said, Jeff!
Isn't this why we have to
Isn't this why we have to carry Uninsured Motorist riders on our insurance polices?
I agree Doug, well said Jeff.
I agree Doug, well said Jeff. Just out of curiosity, what do the liberals have to say about this? They seem very passionate about the "Aggressive Anti-Immigration Poll" comments, such as just open the borders and farmers will suffer lost crops. This is a positive reason why we need to control illegal immigration.
This is a scenario why we
This is a scenario why we carry uninsured motorist on our policy. However, it would not be a problem if, people obey the law. So, the law abiding citizen is still responsible to pay out his/her own pocket.
Oh, there is one more thing
Oh, there is one more thing about illegal immigration and why we need to stop it. None of us had mention this but, when illegals enter this country they bring there diseases and illnesses with them. Meaning there is no medical screening first. I remember a few years ago somewhere in the midwest that they had Monkey Poxs outbreak in some town from a carrier who illegally enter this country. Everyone remembers the recall on vegetables and other produce throughout the years. This could also be from the illegals who pick the fields, they could be infected with who knows what. I have seen immigrants pissing in the field where they are picking crops. This just food for thought people.
