If the majority of residents feel they need a dedicated patrol and are willing to pay for it then by all means, yes, they should have a dedicated patrol.
Regardless, if there is an uptick in crime, it makes sense that the sheriff dept increase their presence in that community.
Since there hasn't been any progress made to the publics knowledge about all the crimes that have happened in OA it might be the best thing for the area. A police officer that knows there area and is familiar with what should and shouldn't be will do them a lot of good. If OA residence do not want to pay for it then that it their decision but these criminals are just going to keep going because there isn't much law enforcement there so they probably feel like they are going under the radar and won't be caught. Who are they going to be caught by? The occasional patrol car that drives through and doesn't know who doesn't belong where.... i don't think so. No offense to the sheriffs and troopers but they have other places to patrol too and are usually looking for traffic violations and not burglaries.
I hope that for the sake of the residents in OA they agree to pay.
I live in the village of Corfu and like many of you know it isn't big at all! OA is probably way bigger but what have a police officer and (knock on wood) we don't have such horrible things happen. We have a dedicated law enforcement who knows where people would be out of place and it is really a good thing.
Until and if that happens, stretched law enforcement resources can only respond after the crime has occurred. If you haven't already, consider supporting local businesses such as Barrett's, Hunters Landing, etc.
