Food store relocating from Alexander to Batavia

By Howard B. Owens

Molasses Hill Bulk Foods is relocating from the Village of Alexander to a building on Ellicott Street.

Owner Shannon Harder said she hopes the new site will be open on Aug. 9.

Harder said moving was a simple business decision. While she had a core group of loyal customers in Alexander, there just weren't enough to sustain the business. She's hoping the bigger customer base of Batavia will help generate the kind of revenue she needs to stay open.

She also pointed out that the outside of the building (formerly Time Bomb Tattoo) will be repainted.

So excited about this! I love Molasses Hill. Their deli meats and cheeses are out of this world and they have have very reasonable prices.

Looking forward to this! Finally something coming to the East side of Batavia. I remember when that used to be a grocery store that had an awesome butcher shop. And I think the butcher had four fingers on one hand. For the life of me I can't remember the name. I think it started with a "K". Anyone? (And sold Genesee Farms ice cream.) Remember when Gen. Farms was located where Pandora's is now? Oh wow, getting off subject here. Ha.

Good luck to Molasses Hill! :o) And yes, get rid of that awful green paint. Aack.

It was Wandryk's Superette...... anybody reasonable w/ good service will do well there. Mardell-do you remember the Genesee Farms that used to be where the Subway is now(next to 400 Towers)?

We will miss having the store here in Alexander. I hope she gets the business she is hoping for in Batavia. Killer subs and lots of awesome bulk spices and baking ingredients. Was always a treat having the cookouts out in front of the store.

Hey Bob ~ gee, at least I remembered that there was a "k" in the name! LOL Now that you said it, I suddenly thought, "aaha!." Don'tcha hate when that happens?

Yes, I do recall the GF over by 400 Towers. Personally, I think GF made the best ice cream ever. What about the one in LeRoy? At the end of E.Beth/LeRoy Rd. on Rt. 5. Before it was DuPont's. That was the bomb-diggety back in the day.

Just drove bye there this morning... Just not enough in Alexander to have 3 Food places, already have J-Dub's & Alexander Corner Deli... Good Luck & I hope the "Rent is not too Dam high".... Ellicott Street is a tough place for a business to operate... a lot of empty store fronts...

I am sooo excited about this, They have the best prices on cooking spices and herbs, plus their subs will give any place in Batavia a run for their money. I love to go there around the holidays to get my cookie ingredients.

It will be great to have a business of this kind in the neighborhood. Used to make trips to Alexander to get my cookie ingredients at Christmas time, now I can walk. Can't beat that.

Should be a great location for these folks. Good luck !!!
