Late this evening, spotted this sign -- "Mi Rancho Mexican Restaurant" -- on the old Ponderosa building on Ellicott Street. So, I guess we're free to speculate that a new Mexican restaurant is coming to Batavia.
I second those sentiments as well.... I am grabbing my sombrero and poncho and going down to get ready to eat :D
(I'll dress my pet ewok in mexican garb too)
There are several "Mi Ranchos" around the country, according to Google. Seems to be a popular name with restaurant owners (they don't all seem to be connected, as in a chain -- cross fingers on the "no chain" part).
I spotted that also last night, very interesting. I hope it's as good as Margaritas Grill with true authentic food. maybe the previous owners are just relocating ?? Let's hope they open soon and get on thebatavian.com
looks like it's a chain and from what I can tell it has excellent reviews...I can't wait!!!

This is a great restaurant and the service is fantastic. We really enjoy eating here and the food is good. Even when you order take out they give generous portions. Very good place to eat and I highly recommend.
Brenda, didn't find that news headline, so I guess you're joking. You probably meant Gringo, too, not Gingo (and certainly not Ginko or Gecko or Geico). Ha!
Order Menudo, if you don't vomit on the first mushy chunk of tripe it is authentic and you have huevos grande. I love it, but never twice in the same month.
I attempted to have menudo once. I couldn't get past the smell and only had one bite. But that was many years ago. I've toughened up quite a bit and perhaps would have another go at it.
As I recall, it had the aroma of fecund bovine hooves which were marinating in hot fecund bovine hoof broth, with large kernals of hominy floating about and little nuggets of white curly hog tummy.
No wonder it's supposedly good for a hangover. If it doesn't outright kill you or make you puke, then it will probably "cleanse" the Saturday pipeline. What better way to fortify your innards than something made with innards.
I spoke with the owner, Leon, this afternoon. He's from Mt. Morris. This will be his fifth or sixth (wasn't clear on that) Mexican restaurant. He said it is authentic Mexican food and one of his workers volunteered, "it's the best." He aims to be open by July 1.
Don't tease me, please.

I am so there.

Please let it be authentic.

Man,that's an ambitious goal
Man,that's an ambitious goal to open-only 3 days away.Must not have needed to much interior prep to get going.
That does seem ambitious ...
That does seem ambitious ... but he clearly said "by the first" and the gist of the rest of the conversation was certain "very soon."
Assuming Ponderosa left the facility in tact, it may just need cleaning and stocking (the crew was cleaning equipment when I stopped by).
